My name is Dr. Michael Roseneck, and I am a research fellow at the Chair for Practical Philosophy II at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and at the Chair for Philosophy of Religion at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. Additionally, I am an associated researcher at the Chair for Political Theory and Public Policy at the University of Mainz.
I completed my Ph.D. in 2020 and hold two master’s degrees: an M.A. in Philosophy of Religion (with distinction) from Goethe University Frankfurt (2019) and an M.A. in Empirical Democracy Studies from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (2014).
My research focuses on political philosophy and moral theory, philosophy of religion, the role of religion in modernity and its intersection with politics, theories of deliberative democracy, and theories of communicative action. Among my recent contributions is co-editing the Rawls Handbook with Thomas M. Schmidt, Johannes Frühbauer, and Michael Reder, as well as publishing comprehensively on the relationship between religion and democracy, and democracy and truth.
In 2024, I held a fellowship at the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw. From 2017 to 2019, I was a junior member of the Gutenberg Academy Fellow Program, a notable initiative of Johannes Gutenberg University supporting outstanding doctoral candidates.
Currently, I teach philosophy courses at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz for both bachelor’s and master’s students, focusing on political theory. At Goethe University Frankfurt, I primarily offer courses in philosophy of religion. Previously, I also taught courses with a focus on philosophy and social sciences at TU Darmstadt, and the University of Münster.
