Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Satzspaltung und ihren Funktionen im brasilianischen und euro... more Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Satzspaltung und ihren Funktionen im brasilianischen und europäischen Portugiesisch. Dieses sprachliche Mittel ermöglicht es dem Sender, seine Mitteilung besonders wirksam zu gestalten und eine große Vielfalt von Bedeutungsnuancen auszudrücken. Die große Vielfalt der Formen der portugiesischen Satzspaltung geht mit komplexen Funktionen einher, die anhand eines Korpus von Romanen des 20. Jahrhunderts im Detail untersucht und mit einem deutschen Referenzkorpus kontrastiert werden. Durch eine Übersetzungsanalyse wird die Relevanz der Satzspaltungsfunktionen im Übersetzungsprozess dargestellt. Da das Deutsche auf Grund der relativ freien Wortstellung nicht dieselbe strukturelle Vielfalt der Satzspaltung aufweist, beruht die Analyse auf dem Tertium Comparationis der Satzspaltungsfunktion. A resistência alemã ao nacional-socialismo, tema ainda pouco difundido e estudado no contexto bra... more A resistência alemã ao nacional-socialismo, tema ainda pouco difundido e estudado no contexto brasileiro, é associada sobretudo a nomes de indivíduos que agiram sozinhos ou junto a grupos estabelecidos a partir de círculos de afinidade e confiança. As cartas escritas entre 1933 e 1945 por Helmuth James von Moltke e por outros opositores do nacional-socialismo trazem à tona a dimensão biográfica da resistência, ao evidenciarem, em textos autênticos, as experiências individuais que levaram cada um deles a entrar em conflito com o regime. Tendo isso em vista, o presente trabalho analisa a interface entre as dimensões subjetiva e histórica em uma seleção de cartas e aborda a relação entre os papeis do tradutor e do editor na transposição dessas cartas para o português. A tradução das cartas pode contribuir para a difusão, em contexto brasileiro, do tema da resistência alemã ao nacional-socialismo.

A resistência alemã ao nacional-socialismo, tema ainda pouco difundido e estudado no contexto bra... more A resistência alemã ao nacional-socialismo, tema ainda pouco difundido e estudado no contexto brasileiro, é associada sobretudo a nomes de indivíduos que agiram sozinhos ou junto a grupos estabelecidos a partir de círculos de afinidade e confiança. As cartas escritas entre 1933 e 1945 por Helmuth James von Moltke e por outros opositores do nacional-socialismo trazem à tona a dimensão biográfica da resistência, ao evidenciarem, em textos autênticos, as experiências individuais que levaram cada um deles a entrar em conflito com o regime. In this paper, I discuss choices concerning the legal content for interpreting students based on ... more In this paper, I discuss choices concerning the legal content for interpreting students based on the syllabus of a lecture on Legal Interpreting in the Master of Arts in Conference Interpreting at the University of Leipzig. The topics were chosen on the basis of the professional experience of sworn interpreters in Germany. The aim is to prepare students for working in the different legal contexts (court, police, notary public, prison, psychiatric hospital, public administration etc.) in Germany by offering basic legal knowledge in those fields. Based on this syllabus, students are enabled to discuss the role of interpreters as seen by themselves and by professional associations in comparison to professionals in the legal field, and also ethical questions. It entitles them to act professionally and ethically in all these contexts.

Apesar de a tradução de documentos escolares ser muito frequente na prática da tradução juramenta... more Apesar de a tradução de documentos escolares ser muito frequente na prática da tradução juramentada, há poucas publicações acadêmicas ou comerciais a respeito, o que configura uma relação problemática entre a teoria, a prática e o mundo editorial 1 . Essa lacuna é sentida pelos tradutores que lidam com esse tipo de texto cotidianamente, já que os sistemas de ensino são arraigados na legislação e, por isso, são particularmente marcados do ponto de vista cultural. Sob o aspecto jurídico, a legislação oferece o quadro geral para os sistemas de ensino, com a possibilidade de diversidade por deliberações de ministérios, secretarias ou conselhos de educação, o que abre espaço, por exemplo, para a criação de escolas baseadas em propostas pedagógicas diferenciadas (escolas confessionais, profissionalizantes etc.). Porém, o setor do ensino está sujeito a constantes reformas promovidas por demandas de diferentes setores da sociedade e, parcialmente, por pressões internacionais, como as avaliações realizadas por instituições multilaterais, como o Programa Internacional de Avaliação de Estudantes -PISA. Do ponto de vista tradutório, há alguns trabalhos a respeito. Podemos citar Stolze (2014), que compara o sistema de notas e de ensino alemão com o estadunidense, britânico, francês e italiano em modelos autênticos (p.111-139 e p.141-168), além de Pilar (2001), que propõe exercícios de tradução, para o espanhol, de certificados acadêmicos alemães autênticos (p.39-54). Há igualmente extensa bibliografia sobre o discurso jurídico em francês e outras línguas, que incide também sobre os documentos escolares 2 e alguns trabalhos brasileiros, como o de Zavaglia & Poppi (2010). Mas a questão ainda requer muita reflexão e pesquisa. Delvizio, Barros & Aubert (2010), por exemplo, discorrem sobre a tradução de termos culturalmente marcados em documentos acadêmicos (português/inglês). Nesse texto, afirmam que a tradução das terminologias constitui um dos principais desafios nessa área (p. 230). Tradução em Revista 17, 2014/2, p. 46 entanto, a nossa prática mostra que as dificuldades vão muito além da unidade lexical. Ressaltamos, portanto, a importância de recorrer à maior variedade possível de modelos autênticos para estudar, ensinar, pesquisar e realizar profissionalmente a tradução de documentos escolares, assunto que merece especial atenção. Considerando essa problemática, este artigo tem como proposta comentar as bases legais dos sistemas de ensino brasileiro, alemão e francês, discutindo-os em termos gerais, com algumas ponderações específicas. Em seguida, levantaremos aspectos contrastivos relacionados, apontando para algumas dificuldades de tradução decorrentes das diferenças de gênero textual e de terminologia e, consequentemente, das especificidades da tradução desses documentos, dando especial atenção aos históricos escolares.

The purpose is to bring to light similarities and diierences that help translators to understand the source text and to deene invariance criteria and translation methods and procedures, as well as to write the target text for the other legal culture. Horizons is the result of an initiative which forges a radically new
path for promoting transcultural understanding by studying culturebound
keywords. The stimulating idea is to create and address with
intention that which is generally held to be by all means avoided: namely,
misunderstandings.
The experiment starts with a level of communication that is not
political per se but cultural. Cultures have no rigid borders like nationstates.
They are more dynamic and meandering, open to influence, and
translatable. Like cultures themselves, keywords are saturated with
history, long-term experience, values, and collective emotions. They carry
a load of tacit knowledge and implicit axioms that have the advantage of
not having to be unpacked, explained, or spelled out.
Working through various semantic layers of keywords on both sides
helps to create a more transparent language for transcultural dialogue.
The creation of such a language is the effect of producing, exchanging,
and working through misunderstandings on both sides. Within the
framework of transcultural dialogue, misunderstandings turn out to
be an innovative tool for mutual learning by seeing oneself through the
eyes of the other.
It is high time for researchers in various parts of the world to join
forces and translate basic concepts from one language and culture into
another. Every translation is a transformation, marking similarities
and differences which can lead to an uncovering of new ideas, values,
and cultural practices. This unconventional dialogue is a great source
of inspiration because it works through hardened assumptions
and misrepresentations, unsettles schematic thinking, and leads to
unexpected insights and new points of contact.

To do justice to the research principles of Transcultura, organizers
reached out to representatives of different legal cultures, moving beyond
Eurocentric perspectives and toward a transcultural exploration of the
conference theme, based on an equality of perspectives. As the table of
contents suggests, the volume includes contributions from European,
Islamic, African, Asian, and Indigenous legal cultures.
Another leading principle of Transcultura is the integration of young
people into its research dialogues. The Lycée Louis le Grand in Paris, a
cooperating partner of the Network for several years, sent some of its students, local students from schools across the Saarland also attended and participated in discussions facilitated by Susanne Reichrath.
This volume contributes to a thematically-focused exchange across disciplines and cultures. According to Transcultura’s research framework, such fora support the construction of ‘reciprocal knowledge’, an extension of individual perspectives both to understand other cultures and approach one’s own culture from within a different horizon. In his conceptual elaboration of this practice, Alain le Pichon often refers to Wittgenstein’s observation that the eye does not see itself to suggest that this applies to cultures as well - it is through the gaze of other cultures onto one’s own that a transformation in one’s own perception occurs.
Because ‘culture’ is such a broad concept, different Transcultura events
focused on specific core terms as central themes for their research dialogues. In the case of the Merzig conference, “law” and “peace” were chosen, themes well-integrated into ongoing Transcultura research. The establishment of a comprehensive encyclopedia of cultural key words would certainly be too ambitious a project for our group, but different conferences and publications should at least contribute to such an effort. We hope, therefore, to have encouraged transcultural dialogue and introduced a topic of central concern for people of all cultures.
