Learning analytics is a valuable opportunity to gain specific information for a better understanding of student's learning behaviour and to improve their learning success. In this work, the collected data of the online learning platform www.more-online.at is analysed and first research results are presented. The main objective is to analyse the usage behaviour over a school year and to show the diffusion of the online platform among provinces in Austria, different school types and other characteristics. Furthermore, the content of the online platform is put under closer examination to enable decisions about the efficiency and effectiveness of different types of exercises.

The national surveys canvass random samples of the adult population and include questions for the general population and working respondents. Among the general population, we provide an overview of attitudes toward the centrality of work, desired working conditions, and the perception of harassment and discrimination. As for working respondents, we present results on their perceived work-life balance, job satisfaction, and characteristics of their current job, as well as their subjective employability and willingness to accept a different job.

The conference in 2014 was the starting point of this issue of the International Journal of Sociology, which covers a wide range of topics: patterns of social networks, social and institutional trust and political participation as well as wage dynamics of East-West commuters. This introduction outlines basic data and theories on the economic and democratic transition in CSE to serve as a frame for the articles presented in this issue. They are country case studies from Croatia, Hungary, and Slovenia and country-comparative studies dealing with East European-Austrian border regions. Altogether, the issue aims at raising international attention to new findings regarding social, structural, and sociocultural changes in the CSE countries.

It argues that wfc, in line with the Sociological Stress Model (Pearlin 1987), is a major role stressor, associated with health problems of workers. The results show that wfc influences the level of self-rated health in the expected direction, when controlling for sociodemographic, family and working characteristics. Country differences exist regarding the moderating role of a country’s degree of individualism. In countries which show higher degrees of individualism, the negative health effects of wfc are stronger. The analysis uses data from the ISSP in 2012 (N=29.857) and multilevel regression models are calculated in order to analyze country differences.
