The embryogenic callus is crucial in the genetic engineering of various crop species, including cassava. Four cultivar cassava landraces from East Java were assessed for their ability to produce friable embryogenic callus (FEC) for protoplast isolation. In this study, four cassava cultivars; (Kaspro, Kuning, Gajah, and Gendruwo); were used to obtain FEC, which involved the culture of immature leaf lobes (ILLs) and apical buds (ABs) media containing MS supplemented with 33 μM picloram and 2 μ M of CuSO 4 (M1) or MS supplemented with 50 μM 2,4-D and 2 μM CuSO 4 (M2). The highest FEC induction efficiency ranged from 72% to 57%, and the highest FEC number ranged from 4.7 to 3.7 with AB explants in media containing MS + 33 μM pilocram and 2 μM CuSO 4 (M1). On the other hand, the efficiency of somatic embryogenesis induction ranged from 67% to 53%, and the number ranged from 4.4 to 3.4. The efficiencies of FEC induction ranged from 48% to 42%, and the number ranged from 3.1 to 2.6 with AB explants in media containing MS + 50 μM 2,4-D and 2 μM CuSO 4 (M2); the efficiency of FEC induction ranged from 56% to 50%, and the value ranged from 3.6 to 2.4 with ILL explants. The FEC induction of the Gendruwo cultivar, which was examined using AB and ILL explants, demonstrated the lowest efficiency. Nevertheless, all four cultivars showed the ability to generate FEC, even though their effectiveness differed depending on the explant genotype and the applied media.

Sukamakmur Village is a village located in Ajung District, Jember Regency with residents making a... more Sukamakmur Village is a village located in Ajung District, Jember Regency with residents making a living as farmers and cultivating freshwater fish. The location of Sukamakmur Village is very prospective for freshwater fish cultivation because of its strategic location in getting water, and the type of fish being cultivated is catfish. In the last period, most of the people who cultivate catfish have gone out of business due to increasing feed prices while the selling value of catfish is unable to cover. The purpose of this community service program is to increase the standard of living and welfare of the people of Sukamakmur Village through the cultivation of freshwater crayfish as a substitute for catfish commodities. The method used for service program activities is through socialization, training, mentoring, and evaluation approaches. The results of the activity show that the community is enthusiastic in implementing freshwater crayfish cultivation because the cultivation method is very easy and requires low costs. Another result obtained is that the community can start new businesses, especially those that have gone out of business due to catfish cultivation so that they can bounce back in increasing their income.

Arrowroot in Jember Regency is still a wild plant. This research aims to determine the physicochemical variability of arrowroot from several sub-districts in Jember Regency. The physicochemical variables observed included water content, sucrose, dissolved protein, antioxidants, flavonoids, phenolics, reducing sugars, and carbohydrates. The data obtained were analyzed for correlation and biplot. The correlation results show that the higher the water content the lower the sucrose content in arrowroot tubers (r=-0.480), as well as the content of dissolved protein (r=-0.515) and reducing sugar (r=-0.698). The higher the sucrose content in arrowroot tubers, the higher the dissolved protein content (r=0.515), phenolics (r=0.513) and reducing sugar(r=0.657). Based on the results of the biplot analysis, the total physicochemical diversity of arrowroot in Jember Regency was 58.6%. The flavonoid content has a narrow variability value compared to other variables. Arrowroot tubers obtained from the Wuluhan district (Tanjangrejo and Glundengan villages) had the characteristics of low reducing sugar and soluble protein content, while arrowroot tubers from the Sumbersari district (Kranjingan village) was highest of antioxsidance and carbohydrate content.

Vegetable cultivation in yard around the house using verticulture is one of the household economic adaptation efforts during pandemic for increasing income. The aim of this community service are provide knowledge and insight about alternative uses of yard around the house for vegetable cultivation using verticulture, improve family welfares, and environmentally sustainable agriculture implementation. The method used in this program are preparation, socialization, training, and evaluation approaches. The results of this program showed that the community was enthusiastic in vegetable cultivation using verticulture, because its efficient built on limited yard, easy and simple to built in, could increase household income if its commercialized, supporting family food security, easy to get healty food, verticulture building is easy to move.

Pengembangan kelompok tani diarahkan pada (a) penguatan kelompok tani menjadi kelembagaan petani yang kuat dan mandiri; (b) peningkatan kemampuan anggota dalam pengembangan agribisnis; dan (c) peningkatan kemampuan Poktan dalam menjalankan fungsinya. Desa Sukowiryo merupakan salah satu desa di Kecamatan Jelbuk, Kabupaten Jember yang belum pernah diperkenalkan dengan inovasi terkait inisiasi kelompok wanita tani sebagai wadah kerjasama anggotanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana persepsi terhadap inisiasi kelompok wanita tani di Desa Sukowiryo, Kecamatan Jelbuk, Kabupaten Jember. Metode pendekatan kuantitatif dengan pengambilan sampel secara purposive dan analisis data menggunakan analisis PLS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keuntungan relative, observabilitas dan kompatibilitas memiliki pengaruh langsung terhadap inisiasi pembentukan kelompok wanita tani, hal ini dikarenakan dengan mayoritas responden memiliki persepsi sangat baik, bahwa inisiasi kelompok wanita tani yang tergambar dalam perencanaan dan jenis kegiatannya yang dianggap nantinya memberikan keuntungan, dapat mudah teramati dan sangat sesuai dengan kebutuhan masyarakat.

Petani kentang di Desa Ngadisari selama ini menggunakan benih kentang dari daerah lain atau benih... more Petani kentang di Desa Ngadisari selama ini menggunakan benih kentang dari daerah lain atau benih dari pertanaman sebelumnya dalam budidaya kentang, sehingga kualitas benih tidak dapat terjamin. Selain itu, benih yang digunakan mudah terserang penyakit sehingga menyebabkan produktivitas kentang turun. Harga benih kentang yang mahal juga menjadi masalah bagi petani. Produksi benih kentang menggunakan teknologi aeroponik merupakan salah satu solusi dalam meningkatkan wawasan petani di bidang teknologi pertanian, meningkatkan produktivitas kentang, serta kemandirian petani dalam memproduksi benih kentang yang bermutu. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan beberapa pendekatan yaitu sosialisasi tentang persiapan bibit kentang, pemasangan aeroponik, penanaman planlet, dan pemberian nutrisi pada tanaman. Setelah mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian, anggota kelompok tani Jaya Makmur bertambah wawasannya tentang teknologi pembibitan kentang serta memahami tentang pentingnya penggunaan benih bermutu untuk meningkatkan produktivitas kentang. Penerapan teknologi aeroponik dalam produksi benih kentang di Desa Ngadisari mampu meningkatkan produktivitas kentang, mengasah keterampilan petani dalam menghasilkan benih kentang yang bermutu, serta memberikan motivasi bagi petani untuk menjalankan usaha di bidang penyediaan benih kentang.

One problem faced by the community in Sukamakmur Village, Ajung District, East Java, is that its ... more One problem faced by the community in Sukamakmur Village, Ajung District, East Java, is that its youth groups do not have a program to improve the community welfare. Another issue is the lack of public knowledge regarding the use of potential resources, including water resources. The newly established BUMDes and youth organization seem not to have any business programs, which has become an obstacle to the efforts to improve the welfare of the rural community. To address these problems, a community service program was conducted to assist the youth groups, karang taruna, by empowering them and developing agro-sociopreneurship. Given the abundant water resources, they can be used to apply the biofloc technology for catfish farming. The activities in the program included needs analysis using the ABCD analysis of the FGD sessions, education on agrosociopreneurship, training, monitoring, and evaluation. The result showed that through the agrosociopreneurship mentorship, (i) as many as 33% of karang taruna members and livestock farmers attempted to engage in agro-sociopreneurship and (ii) livestock farmers have been able to apply biofloc technology in catfish farming.

Penggunaan pupuk urea merupakan yang tertinggi dibandingkan dengan SP-36, ZA, NPK, dan pupuk organik (Asosiasi Produsen Pupuk Indonesia, 2022). Penggunaan pupuk urea, SP-36, ZA, dan NPK yang tinggi di petani adalah pupuk subsidi pemerintah. Siallagan et al. (2014) melaporkan bahwa penggunaan pupuk subsidi di Desa Melati II, Kecamatan Perbaungan, Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai, sudah tidak efisien dari segi teknis. Many farmers continue using nitrogen fertilizers excessively and they must adhere to the appropri... more Many farmers continue using nitrogen fertilizers excessively and they must adhere to the appropriate dose recommended by the relevant agencies. The use of inorganic nitrogen fertilizers also continues to increase. The problem is that fertilizers are quite expensive, and the excessive use of these fertilizers can harm both the environment and human health. This study aimed to examine the effect of nitrogen dose reduction on the growth, yield, seed quality, physiochemical content, and secondary metabolites of the rice varieties 'Way Apo Buru' and 'Inpari 33'. The results analysis showed that differences in rice varieties had a significant effect on plant height. Treatment with nitrogen fertilizer had a significant effect on the total of panicle length and number of filled grains. Weight of 1000-grains was not affected by rice varieties and nitrogen application. The application of a dose of 40% 250 kg N on the 'Inpari 33' variety resulted in the highest content of flavonoids (28.49 mg g−1), antioxidant activity (45.25%), and secondary metabolites content (3.70 mg g−1). The 'Inpari 33' variety can be used as a food source with high antioxidant content, as it is not affected by free radicals and is tolerant to nitrogen deficiency. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry metabolomic analysis identified four characteristic compounds from the six samples, namely, 2-monoolein; hexadecanoic acid, methyl acid; 9, 12 octadecadienoic acid; and 11-octadecenoic acid, methyl ester. The reduction in nitrogen doses results in slower growth of crop yields and increased stress-related chemicals. The content of secondary metabolites varies, but secondary metabolite compounds are consistently produced at all nitrogen dose levels. The results imply that reducing the nitrogen dose is not advised, even though the excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers might produce residual content from the previous planting season.

Kegiatan inventarisasi dilaksanakan di 6 kecamatan yaitu Kecamatan Arjasa, Kecamatan Sumbersari, Kecamatan Silo, Kecamatan Tanggul, kecamatan Semboro, dan Kecamatan Wuluhan mulai bulan Juli 2021 sampai Oktober 2021 dengan metode survei. Teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara accidental sampling. Hasil analisis dendogram berdasarkan karakter morfologi menunjukkan bahwa Kecamatan Sumbersari, Wuluhan dan Arjasa merupakan daerah yang cukup banyak ditemukan tanaman garut dibandingkan 3 Kecamatan lainnya. Penggunaan pupuk urea berlebih dapat menurunkan produksi, kualitas tanaman, serta pencemaran lingkungan. Tujuan percobaan ini adalah melihat respon pertumbuhan, hasil dan kualitas padi sawah pada media N rendah. Rancangan percobaan menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok faktorial, dosis pupuk urea (0%, 40%, dan 100% 250 kg ha-1) dan varietas padi (Way Apo Buru dan Inpari 33). Parameter yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman (cm), jumlah anakan, jumlah daun, chlorophyl fluorescence (unit), gabah isi (%), jumlah malai, kandungan protein terlarut (mg g-1), vitamin C (mg g-1), dan gula reduksi (mg g-1). Arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea L.) is a perennial plant whose tubers are used as an alternative s... more Arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea L.) is a perennial plant whose tubers are used as an alternative source of food, feed, and industrial raw materials. Arrowroot in Jember Regency is still a wild plant. This research aims to determine the physicochemical variability of arrowroot from several sub-districts in Jember Regency. The physicochemical variables observed included water content, sucrose, dissolved protein, antioxidants, flavonoids, phenolics, reducing sugars, and carbohydrates. The data obtained were analyzed for correlation and biplot. The correlation results show that the higher the water content the lower the sucrose content in arrowroot tubers (r=-0.480), as well as the content of dissolved protein (r=-0.515) and reducing sugar (r=-0.698). The higher the sucrose content in arrowroot tubers, the higher the dissolved protein content (r=0.515), phenolics (r=0.513) and reducing sugar(r=0.657). Based on the results of the biplot analysis, the total physicochemical diversity of arrowroot in Jember Regency was 58.6%. The flavonoid content has a narrow variability value compared to other variables. Arrowroot tubers obtained from the Wuluhan district (Tanjangrejo and Glundengan villages) had the characteristics of low reducing sugar and soluble protein content, while arrowroot tubers from the Sumbersari district (Kranjingan village) was highest of antioxsidance and carbohydrate content.

Meanwhile vegetables are rarely cultivated in there. Vegetable cultivation in yard around the house using verticulture is one of the household economic adaptation efforts during pandemic for increasing income. The aim of this community service are provide knowledge and insight about alternative uses of yard around the house for vegetable cultivation using verticulture, improve family welfares, and environmentally sustainable agriculture implementation. The method used in this program are preparation, socialization, training, and evaluation approaches. The results of this program showed that the community was enthusiastic in vegetable cultivation using verticulture, because its efficient built on limited yard, easy and simple to built in, could increase household income if its commercialized, supporting family food security, easy to get healty food, verticulture building is easy to move.

Pengembangan kelompok tani diarahkan pada (a) penguatan kelompok tani menjadi kelembagaan petani yang kuat dan mandiri; (b) peningkatan kemampuan anggota dalam pengembangan agribisnis; dan (c) peningkatan kemampuan Poktan dalam menjalankan fungsinya. Desa Sukowiryo merupakan salah satu desa di Kecamatan Jelbuk, Kabupaten Jember yang belum pernah diperkenalkan dengan inovasi terkait inisiasi kelompok wanita tani sebagai wadah kerjasama anggotanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana persepsi terhadap inisiasi kelompok wanita tani di Desa Sukowiryo, Kecamatan Jelbuk, Kabupaten Jember. Metode pendekatan kuantitatif dengan pengambilan sampel secara purposive dan analisis data menggunakan analisis PLS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keuntungan relative, observabilitas dan kompatibilitas memiliki pengaruh langsung terhadap inisiasi pembentukan kelompok wanita tani, hal ini dikarenakan dengan mayoritas responden memiliki persepsi sangat baik, bahwa inisiasi kelompok wanita tani yang tergambar dalam perencanaan dan jenis kegiatannya yang dianggap nantinya memberikan keuntungan, dapat mudah teramati dan sangat sesuai dengan kebutuhan masyarakat.

Petani kentang di Desa Ngadisari selama ini menggunakan benih kentang dari daerah lain atau benih... more Petani kentang di Desa Ngadisari selama ini menggunakan benih kentang dari daerah lain atau benih dari pertanaman sebelumnya dalam budidaya kentang, sehingga kualitas benih tidak dapat terjamin. Selain itu, benih yang digunakan mudah terserang penyakit sehingga menyebabkan produktivitas kentang turun. Harga benih kentang yang mahal juga menjadi masalah bagi petani. Produksi benih kentang menggunakan teknologi aeroponik merupakan salah satu solusi dalam meningkatkan wawasan petani di bidang teknologi pertanian, meningkatkan produktivitas kentang, serta kemandirian petani dalam memproduksi benih kentang yang bermutu. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan beberapa pendekatan yaitu sosialisasi tentang persiapan bibit kentang, pemasangan aeroponik, penanaman planlet, dan pemberian nutrisi pada tanaman. Setelah mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian, anggota kelompok tani Jaya Makmur bertambah wawasannya tentang teknologi pembibitan kentang serta memahami tentang pentingnya penggunaan benih bermutu untuk meningkatkan produktivitas kentang. Penerapan teknologi aeroponik dalam produksi benih kentang di Desa Ngadisari mampu meningkatkan produktivitas kentang, mengasah keterampilan petani dalam menghasilkan benih kentang yang bermutu, serta memberikan motivasi bagi petani untuk menjalankan usaha di bidang penyediaan benih kentang.

One problem faced by the community in Sukamakmur Village, Ajung District, East Java, is that its ... more One problem faced by the community in Sukamakmur Village, Ajung District, East Java, is that its youth groups do not have a program to improve the community welfare. Another issue is the lack of public knowledge regarding the use of potential resources, including water resources. The newly established BUMDes and youth organization seem not to have any business programs, which has become an obstacle to the efforts to improve the welfare of the rural community. To address these problems, a community service program was conducted to assist the youth groups, karang taruna, by empowering them and developing agro-sociopreneurship. Given the abundant water resources, they can be used to apply the biofloc technology for catfish farming. The activities in the program included needs analysis using the ABCD analysis of the FGD sessions, education on agrosociopreneurship, training, monitoring, and evaluation. The result showed that through the agrosociopreneurship mentorship, (i) as many as 33% of karang taruna members and livestock farmers attempted to engage in agro-sociopreneurship and (ii) livestock farmers have been able to apply biofloc technology in catfish farming.

Penggunaan pupuk urea merupakan yang tertinggi dibandingkan dengan SP-36, ZA, NPK, dan pupuk organik (Asosiasi Produsen Pupuk Indonesia, 2022). Penggunaan pupuk urea, SP-36, ZA, dan NPK yang tinggi di petani adalah pupuk subsidi pemerintah. Siallagan et al. (2014) melaporkan bahwa penggunaan pupuk subsidi di Desa Melati II, Kecamatan Perbaungan, Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai, sudah tidak efisien dari segi teknis. Many farmers continue using nitrogen fertilizers excessively and they must adhere to the appropri... more Many farmers continue using nitrogen fertilizers excessively and they must adhere to the appropriate dose recommended by the relevant agencies. The use of inorganic nitrogen fertilizers also continues to increase. The problem is that fertilizers are quite expensive, and the excessive use of these fertilizers can harm both the environment and human health. This study aimed to examine the effect of nitrogen dose reduction on the growth, yield, seed quality, physiochemical content, and secondary metabolites of the rice varieties 'Way Apo Buru' and 'Inpari 33'. The results analysis showed that differences in rice varieties had a significant effect on plant height. Treatment with nitrogen fertilizer had a significant effect on the total of panicle length and number of filled grains. Weight of 1000-grains was not affected by rice varieties and nitrogen application. The application of a dose of 40% 250 kg N on the 'Inpari 33' variety resulted in the highest content of flavonoids (28.49 mg g−1), antioxidant activity (45.25%), and secondary metabolites content (3.70 mg g−1). The 'Inpari 33' variety can be used as a food source with high antioxidant content, as it is not affected by free radicals and is tolerant to nitrogen deficiency. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry metabolomic analysis identified four characteristic compounds from the six samples, namely, 2-monoolein; hexadecanoic acid, methyl acid; 9, 12 octadecadienoic acid; and 11-octadecenoic acid, methyl ester. The reduction in nitrogen doses results in slower growth of crop yields and increased stress-related chemicals. The content of secondary metabolites varies, but secondary metabolite compounds are consistently produced at all nitrogen dose levels. The results imply that reducing the nitrogen dose is not advised, even though the excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers might produce residual content from the previous planting season.

Kegiatan inventarisasi dilaksanakan di 6 kecamatan yaitu Kecamatan Arjasa, Kecamatan Sumbersari, Kecamatan Silo, Kecamatan Tanggul, kecamatan Semboro, dan Kecamatan Wuluhan mulai bulan Juli 2021 sampai Oktober 2021 dengan metode survei. Teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara accidental sampling. Hasil analisis dendogram berdasarkan karakter morfologi menunjukkan bahwa Kecamatan Sumbersari, Wuluhan dan Arjasa merupakan daerah yang cukup banyak ditemukan tanaman garut dibandingkan 3 Kecamatan lainnya. Tanaman garut di Kabupaten Jember masih sebagai tanaman liar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman fisikokimia garut dari beberapa kecamatan di Kabupaten Jember. Variabel fisikokimia yang diamati meliputi kadar air, sukrosa, protein terlarut, antioksidan, flavonoid, phenolic, gula reduksi, dan karbohidrat. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis korelasi dan biplot. Manihot esculenta Crantz, commonly known as cassava, is a staple aliment that is a significant so... more Manihot esculenta Crantz, commonly known as cassava, is a staple aliment that is a significant source of revenue for farmers. The embryogenic callus is crucial in the genetic engineering of various crop species, including cassava. Four cultivar cassava landraces from East Java were assessed for their ability to produce friable embryogenic callus (FEC) for protoplast isolation. In this study, four cassava cultivars; (Kaspro, Kuning, Gajah, and Gendruwo); were used to obtain FEC, which involved the culture of immature leaf lobes (ILLs) and apical buds (ABs) media containing MS supplemented with 33 μM picloram and 2 μ M of CuSO 4 (M1) or MS supplemented with 50 μM 2,4-D and 2 μM CuSO 4 (M2). The highest FEC induction efficiency ranged from 72% to 57%, and the highest FEC number ranged from 4.7 to 3.7 with AB explants in media containing MS + 33 μM pilocram and 2 μM CuSO 4 (M1). On the other hand, the efficiency of somatic embryogenesis induction ranged from 67% to 53%, and the number ranged from 4.4 to 3.4. The efficiencies of FEC induction ranged from 48% to 42%, and the number ranged from 3.1 to 2.6 with AB explants in media containing MS + 50 μM 2,4-D and 2 μM CuSO 4 (M2); the efficiency of FEC induction ranged from 56% to 50%, and the value ranged from 3.6 to 2.4 with ILL explants. The FEC induction of the Gendruwo cultivar, which was examined using AB and ILL explants, demonstrated the lowest efficiency. Nevertheless, all four cultivars showed the ability to generate FEC, even though their effectiveness differed depending on the explant genotype and the applied media.

Penggunaan pupuk urea berlebih dapat menurunkan produksi, kualitas tanaman, serta pencemaran lingkungan. Tujuan percobaan ini adalah melihat respon pertumbuhan, hasil dan kualitas padi sawah pada media N rendah. Rancangan percobaan menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok faktorial, dosis pupuk urea (0%, 40%, dan 100% 250 kg ha-1) dan varietas padi (Way Apo Buru dan Inpari 33). Parameter yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman (cm), jumlah anakan, jumlah daun, chlorophyl fluorescence (unit), gabah isi (%), jumlah malai, kandungan protein terlarut (mg g-1), vitamin C (mg g-1), dan gula reduksi (mg g-1). The potential for large cayenne pepper productivity is around 523 tons, but most members of the Farmers Group still prioritize farming with rice-rice-palawija and rice-rice-tobacco cropping patterns. Meanwhile, cayenne pepper as a local potential has not become a priority because of the lack of technical knowledge about cayenne pepper cultivation. This group has several needs in terms of assistance and economic empowerment through farmer group institutions. Through group-based institutions, farmers can get counseling and assistance related to the cultivation of cayenne pepper in an integrated manner by utilizing their yards.
