In the context of Indonesia, the so-called policy Large Scale Social Restriction encourages small and medium-sized business groups to find strategic ways so that they can continue to carry out production and marketing activities. One of the strategic ways is building a network of people who consume goods by using digital technology. This study analyses the strategies of small and medium-sized business groups in building a community network of the consumption of small and medium-sized business products through digital technology during the COVID-19 pandemic with special reference to the case of Depok, in Indonesia. Dalam kepustakaan kontemporer di Indonesia, konsepsi tentang masyarakat sipil dan politik kewarga... more Dalam kepustakaan kontemporer di Indonesia, konsepsi tentang masyarakat sipil dan politik kewargaan telah menjadi tema penting yang mengisi kepustakaan ilmu sosial dan politik di Indonesia sejak dekade 1990an dalam menghadapi dominasi kekuasaan pemerintahan otoriter Orde Baru. Bagaimanapun, terdapat kelemahan dalam perkembangan konsep tersebut dengan ketiadaan rujukan historis dalam pengalaman sejarah Indonesia. Dengan menguraikan bagaimana perkembangan kehidupan masyarakat kota kolonial Surabaya pada paruh kedua abad ke-19 dan awal abad ke-20, artikel ini menunjukkan dimensi penting ruang kota dan praktek politik yang muncul di dalamnya sebagai landasan penting bagi kemunculan masyarakat sipil yang kuat untuk mewujudkan konsepsi ideal politik kewargaan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari warga. This article is about the nature of political tronsitions (rather than transformation) of the soc... more This article is about the nature of political tronsitions (rather than transformation) of the socio-political system of Javanese society at the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth century. lt deslt with the case of peasant resistance and rural grievances as exemplified by the case of Darmodjojo Affair in Kediri area, East Java province. However, this article is not concerned only with the Darmodjojo affair in detail but will look
upon it as the phenomenon of the period when the area of Kediri brought into the orbit of the modern world and the respond of Javanese rural society. As such, it contains all the interesting problems of the age. The impact of Dutch colonialism in Kediri--the nature of colonial policies upon Javanese rural society and ultimately the establishment of sugar
industries and cash-crops plantations-all became major forces, directly and indirectly, influenced the various social, economic and political institutions of Javanese native society in general, and Kediri society in particular. When the unrest led by Darmodjojo and his followers occurred, the whole structure of traditional Javanese polity was in disarray, and the Sunan and Sultan lost their political grips upon their people and notable functionaries st local areas. At the local level, the Darmodjojo Affair represents the tensions between the local leaders and rural populations, as well as the brawls between Dutch colonial officers and Javanese nobles. But at the more general level, it represents the marking of era when the rural population mobilized by their leaders, by using the "prose of insurgent" available in their cultural and ideological matrix, and bravely confronted
the modern colonial institutional forces, its coercive and bureaucratic machinery in vain.

Abstrak Artikel ini menawarkan tinjauan tentang awal pergerakan nasional Indonesia di lingkungan ... more Abstrak Artikel ini menawarkan tinjauan tentang awal pergerakan nasional Indonesia di lingkungan perkotaan Surabaya dan membahas kaitan antara kemunculan awal kalangan terpelajar pribumi melalui Boedi Oetomo (BO) dengan perkembangan Sarekat Islam (SI) di kota itu. Dengan menelusuri kiprah H.O.S Tjokroaminoto sebagai pemimpin SI di Surabaya, tulisan ini menunjukkan bahwa alih-alih perkembangan terpisah, Sarekat Islam adalah kelanjutan dari pergerakan kalangan terpelajar pribumi yang sebelumnya telah aktif di dalam BO. Artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa Tjokroaminoto telah memainkan peran penting sebagai pemimpin pergerakan di kalangan terpelajar pribumi di Surabaya dan menjadi pemimpin BO di kota itu pada saat awal pembentukannya. Dengan demikian, tulisan ini menjadi upaya memberikan sumbangan kekosongan di dalam periode penting sejarah Indonesia modern.

Baginya, Pemerintah Kolonial di Hindia-Belanda dengan sistem birokrasi pribuminya telah memperkuat struktur feodal tradisional yang menindas rakyat. Tulisan ini bukan bermaksud mengupas sebuah tradisi dan ritual yang lahir dan “diciptakan” dalam ... more Tulisan ini bukan bermaksud mengupas sebuah tradisi dan ritual yang lahir dan “diciptakan” dalam riwayat historis suatu negara-bangsa, atau lebih khusus tentang bagaimana Sumpah Pemuda menjadi landasan ontologis imajinasi Indonesia sebagai negara bangsa dalam benak kontemporer kita. Uraian yang disodorkan lebih mewakili cara tradisional seorang sejarawan dengan kegemaran meletakkan sebuah peristiwa pada rentang waktu kejadiannya, menelaah kekhususan yang ada di dalam, untuk kemudian mengikuti jalur perkembangan kejadian-kejadian khusus itu. Dengan cara seperti ini fokus penulisan akan bertumpu pada istilah “pemuda” yang membentuk frase politik memasuki paruh kedua dekade 1920-an abad ke-20. Frase pemuda dengan demikian menjadi jendela awal dalam tulisan ini untuk meneropong sebuah periode antara Perang Dunia I dan Perang Dunia II dalam membangun pengertian terhadap persoalan zaman, dan karakter politik periode tersebut sebagaimana diwakili dengan kemunculan frase pemuda dalam politik pergerakan.

Tulisan ini mencoba melihat dengan cara baru tentang politik nasionalisme Indonesia dengan memasukkan aspek spasial, khususnya di lingkungan kota kolonial Surabaya, ketika kota muncul bukan saja sekedar pusat pertumbuhan dan ekonomi baru, tetapi juga menjadi sumber kelahiran gerakan politik baru di koloni Hindia-Belanda. Secara khusus, tulisan ini membahas bagaimana kesadaran diri kaum nasionalis Indonesia di lingkungan perkotaan, dan bagaimana bentuk kesadaran tersebut tampil dalam beragam aksi kolektif tentang bagaimana seharusnya kota berkembang dan bagaimana perkembangan itu diarahkan.

Studies on the socioeconomic problems experienced by the local people in the built environment of... more Studies on the socioeconomic problems experienced by the local people in the built environment of Indonesia have always provided information about the practice of late colonial politics from the 19th to the early 20th century. However, the engagement of nationalist politics to shape and influence the direction of the policy-making process on a city's governance is rarely considered in systematic ways. By focusing on Surabaya in the early 20th century and its importance as an intersection of eastern and western parts of the Indonesian archipelago, this study highlights the political articulation of nationalist politics at the local level. It also shows the sustained and persistent efforts made by Indonesian nationalists to offer unique versions of city governance as well as propose a substantial challenge to the structure of colonial power at the local level.
Tulisan ini menguraikan pengalaman seorang aktivis komunis di tingkat lokal dan pengalaman priba... more Tulisan ini menguraikan pengalaman seorang aktivis komunis di tingkat lokal dan pengalaman pribadinya dalam menghadapi gelombang peristiwa kekerasan antikomunis pada 1965. Selain pengalaman sepanjang momen krisis tersebut, tulisan ini juga menampilkan bagaimana perkembangan partai tersebut dalam lingkup perkembangan sejarah lokal gerakan komunis di Indonesia. Berbeda dengan arus utama historiografi 1965 yang menggambarkan kisah tanpa daya para aktivis komunis dalam menghadapi gejolak politik yang terjadi, tulisan ini menampilkan langkah-langkah terakhir yang dilakukan kader-kader PKI dalam momen krisis tersebut. Birokratisasi yang terjadi dalam tubuh partai pada akhirnya menjadi faktor utama yang menyebabkan partai tersebut sulit beradaptasi dengan situasi baru yang terjadi setelah kudeta militer di ibukota.
