This study examines the asymmetries among the different interests of officials and medical doctor... more This study examines the asymmetries among the different interests of officials and medical doctors who worked for the Rockefeller Foundation and their Colombian counterparts in the development and consolidation of the concept of "jungle yellow fever," as distinguished from the known urban form of yellow fever. We explore the research responses to a variety of disease outbreaks in Colombia in the context of the Rockefeller campaigns against yellow fever, from the time of Roberto Franco's initial description of "yellow fever of the forests" in 1907 until the consolidation of the concept of "jungle yellow fever" by Fred Soper in 1938.

ABSTRACT
This monograph is the result of an analysis of the existing studies which focus on the effects the armed conflict has on the health of Colombians. These studies deal with specific aspects of health, or with the health situation of the inhabitants, what makes it difficult to get an overall picture of the magnitude of the problem. The objectives of this work were, thus, to make an overview of such effects.
In each book the following aspects were analysed: theoretical approach, methodology and sources, and the data which the research provided. The results were divided in four categories: morbidity, mortality, health-services, and quality of life, making possible an organised approach to the information. Thus, under each category are sub-categories which correspond with the findings.
The present work is not aimed at the establishing of new knowledge. Rather, the idea has been to put forward questions that can contribute positively to the research on this area, and to the emergence of new fields of professional practice.

RESUMEN
La presente monografía es el resultado del análisis de estudios previos de los efectos del conflicto armado en la salud de los colombianos. Fue realizado con el objetivo de construir una imagen de conjunto de dichos efectos, pues en la bibliografía existente sobre el tema, se manejan aspectos específicos de la salud o de la situación de la población, lo cual impide obtener un consolidado de la magnitud de la problemática.
Los aspectos que fueron analizados en cada bibliografía son: el enfoque teórico del autor, la metodología y fuentes utilizadas por el mismo y los datos proporcionados por el estudio. Los resultados fueron discriminados en cuatro categorías: morbilidad, mortalidad, servicios de salud y calidad de vida; de tal forma que se pudiera ubicar la información obtenida de forma organizada, de este modo cada categoría tiene una sub-clasificación según los hallazgos.
El presente trabajo no intenta establecer nuevos conocimientos, sino generar interrogantes que contribuyan a la investigación y a la generación de nuevos campos de ejercicio profesional.
