Dr. J.C. Wagner-Romero is an education leader and community activist in New Orleans and graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where his doctoral coursework focused on heritage leadership for sustainability, social justice, and participatory culture in education. In centering intersectionality, and through the use of a multicultural and global lens, Dr. Wagner-Romero examines the connections between the intentional community engagement of youth and their participation and achievement in formal school settings. Dr. Wagner-Romero, along with six additional doctoral scholars at UMSL, developed a Youth Participatory Empowerment Model (YPEM) framework with the intent to cultivate and strengthen youth voice while identifying and engaging in social justice issues in their communities.
