<p>Abstract:</p><p>This contribution has as its object certain poetical etymolo... more <p>Abstract:</p><p>This contribution has as its object certain poetical etymologies and other wordplays in Lucretius as yet not studied or inadequately studied: Aetna, ἴ and ἰή; <i>auis, auius</i> and <i>Pieris; letum, obliuiscor</i>, and ή; <i>morbus</i> and <i>mors; pario</i> and <i>par; purus</i> and υ̑; <i>uerus, uerbum</i>, and <i>uerto</i>; <i>uinum, uena</i>, and <i>uis</i>. Some general observations are made on Lucretius‘ practice in the matter of etymology.</p>

Their claims are shown to be false. Also discussed: BAV Vat. lat. 3252 (Virgil) and Oxford, Bodleian Libr. Brasenose College 18 (Terence).
