In this article we will discuss the best methodologies for assisted database design in which the ... more In this article we will discuss the best methodologies for assisted database design in which the user is actively involved. This work is part of the research carried out by our development group, whose aim is not only to involve users in design specification tasks within their own company, but also, and much more importantly, make them aware of the need to interact with other users; that is, the need for cooperation in order to accomplish assignments too large to be undertaken by a single individual. It is from this viewpoint that we will present the pros and cons of two different approaches to dealing with data design and the relation between the data, but always with the proviso that the non-expert computer user should be able to put their knowledge about the company into a form which can be processed while they are learning how to use the information system description tools. We will also study the interface requirements in each case.
