This situation is usually aggravated because of the little support and the lack of specific guidance given to these students, leading them to situations of failure or dropout. For this reason, the analysis of the factors that are involved in the development of this dual activity constitutes a reference framework for university centers to plan preventive counseling and support actions. This was the main purpose of this study, conducted with a sample of university students of different degrees who practice top-level sport while were attending university. Four main factors were analyzed: adjustment to university life, difficulties and needs, support and assistance received in the training process and expectations for professional development. The conclusion reached was the need to consider in university education some support measures to integrate academic and sporting aspirations.

Educational institutions have been progressively adapting and responding to the educational needs of students who start university, and this fact highlights the lack of inclusive culture in university institutions. The lack of training of university teachers in the educational response to the needs of students with disabilities is evidenced by the high dropout rates of this group and in successive complaints of teachers who do not have the skills or tools to cope with this situation successfully. The review of a set of 75 programs developed by different Spanish universities to meet the needs of these students shows an insufficient institutional and administrative response while reflecting the lack of unity of jointly develo...

The main aim of the project was to develop a virtual web-based service for teachers (toolbox) to support them best with a sophisticated tool to use the pedagogical framework based on an innovative learner-centered approach, including a quality enhancement framework. The project was designed for students and teachers of the 4th grade of the Obligatory Secondary Education (4th ESO) and Bachillerato, and was focused on the students’ needs with the aim of increasing their motivation and learning success. The development and practical implementation of an innovative motivating self-evaluation tool for students called Self-evaluation Mandala was included. The Mandala is an easy to handle graphic tool which defines learning results based on competences, evaluates students success, motivates them and makes them aware of the improvement achieved throughout their learning process, incre...

Objectives: This research will analyze the phenomenon of suicide in the European Union from a sociological point of view, with the aim of creating a multivariate model which explains such phenomenon. Method: Taking into account those data offered by the European Statistics Office (EUROSTAT), this study will try to explain, through the multiple linear regression model, suicide rates in European countries from demographic variables (number of inhabitants, divorce rate, ratio of women), economic variables (Gross Domestic Product (GDP), general government gross debt), social variables (government expenditure on social protection, population at risk of poverty) or educational variables (public expenditure on education and population with secondary education). From a pedagogical point of view this technological innovation involves many uncertainties as regards its organization, its technology and its pedagogical features. In this paper we study this process in the Degree of early childhood education at the University of La Laguna in the academic course 2016, where two hundred students experienced the video tutorials in two subjects. We will prove how students enter university with previous experiences related to the use of videoconferences in different usage models. In this paper we reflect on decision making processes carried out in several categories. We conclude with the assessment that students have made about this experience, highlighting here the specific utility as regards the most effective type of feedback and the relational environment.

This research is part of the Educational Research Project developed at the University of La Lagun... more This research is part of the Educational Research Project developed at the University of La Laguna during the academic year 2019–2020, which included the period of confinement by COVID-19. The study was carried out with a sample of 193 student teachers in Early Childhood Education, Primary and four master’s degree programs offered by the Faculty of Education of the University of La Laguna. Four tutoring models were analyzed; in person, by e-mail, using virtual tutoring (Hangout/Google Meet) and WhatsApp. The results confirm the need to enhance synchronous models, as the most effective models for the development of the process of academic orientation and support for students, compared to asynchronous models. These delay the processes of academic decision-making and have a significant effect on them, as well as the pace of study and the motivation of the students, hindering the processes of learning, adaptation and fulfilment.
