Before the election, I predicted the end of the conservative movement. They were in panic and disarray; the various factions (intellectuals, religious, neo-con) couldn't see eye-to eye anymore. Sadly, it seems that I was right. However, the outcome is not what I expected. I thought the neo-cons would eventually come to some agreement with the intellectuals, and the religious activists would walk. Instead, the intellectuals were the first out the door. The religious mainstream waked, leaving some extreme radicals in charge. And the neo-cons cheer when America loses, boo when America wins, and spread conspiracy theories in the meantime. The conservative movement has disintegrated into a hateful, spiteful band of misfits.
My instinct is to ignore them and go about my business. But I fear that like far-too-many damaged souls, they may decide to take us all down in a murder-suicide. We may have to act first.
