I don't get hangovers. To be more specific, I don't get hangovers from alcohol. If I choose, I can drink whatever I like, in whatever combinations, whatever quantites, until I pass out. I'll wake up the next day and feel like nothing has happened. I can't say that I really knew what a hangover was unti I went to college. Even when I travelled Europe as a young musician, I just knew my friends were sick in the mornings. They avoided the word hangover, as it implied underage drinking. My college housemates had no such restrictions. We'd go out and party after classes - they'd wind up with crashing headaches the next day, sick to their stomachs, dry mouth, the whole bit.
I do get pharmaceutical hangovers. I feel fine while I'm on the anti-migraine drugs, but slightly queasy coming off. I swear I can feel the drugs draining from my bloodstream. It's an uneasy sensation, as if the magic that once kept me aloft had run out, and I fall ungently into the cold surf. It doesn't feel good; it's not painful either. I'm parched dry; in fact, my skin will be paper-dry for several days, depending on how long I took the drugs. I can't seem to retain enough water. I tire easily. My vision seems slightly blurry. I don't want to eat.
All of these symptoms vanish after a day, maybe two or three.
[Thanks to everyone who sent well-wishes on my migraine. I'm feeling better now, if a bit hungover. ]
