It is felt and experienced, given and constructed as a complex and multifaceted personal awareness. Groups as well as individuals have multiple identities. The social construct of ‘borders’ and the definition of ‘the other’ by the group provides the negative definition of the ‘Self’. The notion of a core of that group identity is contrary to change, and accommodation. There is now also a neural physiological-cognitive definition of identity.
