My research lies in the general context of morphogenesis, pattern formation and self-organization. I study the mechanisms by which small scale structures emerge in an initially homogeneous system subject to uniform applied forces. The emergence of these patterns, due to instabilities breaking the initial symmetry of the system, is generally associated with bifurcations of the governing equations, corresponding to critical values of the applied forces at which homogenous states become unstable.
