ROHAIDA NORDIN

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rohaida Nordin holds a PhD in Law of Lancaster University, United Kingdom. She specialized in International Human Rights Law and rights of indigenous peoples. She is currently serving in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as a senior lecturer of Faculty of Law and she lectures on Criminal Procedure for LLB program; and International Human Rights and International Law and Indigenous Peoples for LLM program. Dr. Rohaida has conducted several research projects, among them are: “The Domestication of the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples (Orang Asli) in Malaysia” in 2008, and a joint research on Biodiversity and Biotechnology law. Currently, she is heading research projects entitled “A Critical Appraisal on Islamic States Conformity to International Human Rights Law. Malaysia as a Case Study”; “Self-Determination of the Indigenous Peoples in Asia: ASEAN Member Countries as Case Studies”; and “Study on Human Rights Knowledge among Final Year Students of The Law Schools of Seven Public Universities in Malaysia”. She participated in SLSA Annual Conference 2007 and 2010, 4th ASIALIC International Conference, International Conference on Siyar and Islamic States Practices and Conference on UNDRIP – Implementation and Challenges, all dealing with matters on protection of human rights in general and protection of indigenous peoples rights. In her publications, she writes on the “Rights of the Indigenous Peoples: Development of Minimum International Standards” which is published in the Current Law Journal and “Malaysian Perspective on Human Rights” published in Journal Undang-undang. She has completed her field studies on the rights to self-determination of the Cherokee in Cherokee Reservation in the United State of America, with regards to Hill Tribes in Chiang Mai and the Kalinga Tribes in Philippine.
