Why UKGBC membership matters

UKGBC is a collaborative, industry-led network driving the transformation of the built environment towards sustainability. UKGBC membership offers organisations access to cutting-edge insights, innovation and a platform to influence policy and practice.

Climate change is already reshaping the market we work in. It’s costing the UK economy 1.1% of GDP today and, without decisive action, could rise to 7.4% by 2100.

That means higher operating costs, more frequent disruption and increasing pressure from regulators, investors and clients. Inaction is no longer neutral – it’s a business risk.

Joining UKGBC helps your organisation demonstrate proactive leadership, rather than waiting for costs and regulations to escalate.

Why Sustainability Matters

Building Climate Resilience:

Natural catastrophes linked to climate change cost the global economy over $100 billion per year. Sustainability is a strategic investment in risk mitigation and asset protection.

Supporting Job Creation:

Every 10 new green jobs create 27 additional jobs in the wide economy.

Improving Workplace Health:

Sustainable design and better indoor environment can reduce staff sickness by up to 20%, lowering absenteeism and boosting productivity.

Enhancing Cognitive Performance:

Employees in greencertified buildings show a 25-30% boost in cognitive function and a 30% reduction in sick building symptoms – leading to better performance and wellbeing.

Hear from our members

“Right from the start, UKGBC embraced architects, engineers, developers, contractors, suppliers, academics, funders, users and many others. In consequence, it could rightly claim to speak for an entire industry, refreshingly independent of narrow sector groups or professions. This has been the basis for UKGBC’s credibility and for its highly influential, collaborative output over 15 years. It was a privilege to be involved from day one and I now look forward to seeing UKGBC expand across all parts of the UK.”
Rab Bennetts OBE Founder Bennetts Associates
“UKGBC has created an unrivalled network that encourages collaboration across the breadth and depth of the industry.”
“The unrelenting focus on clear, practical and consensus-driven guidance is as valuable as it is rare.”
