It is also provided an overview of extensive critical literature review conducted whereby it leads to the findings that there is a need for GLC implementation framework to improve overall project performance in Malaysia particularly in addressing lean construction (LC) issues. Furthermore, growth of this GLC tools strategy is deemed to contribute significantly towards progressive evolution of the Malaysian construction industry to produce better value, quality and sustainable upcoming construction projects hence improving better quality of life. Currently, research is in the pipeline to ensure this issue can be addressed appropriately.
Important Qualities of Design Teams in Managing Client's Brief and their Impact on Delivering Quality Buildings

Clients, the key providers of information, often lack knowledge and experience in the briefing process thus, forming barriers for accurate development of briefs. Much research has been carried out to improve briefing practices, yet, none have specifically identified the design team qualities that can improve client's participation. In responding to calls for research in these areas, this paper suggests architects play important roles, be experienced, good leaders and equipped with specialist skills in various types of buildings.

The objectives of this paper are to provide with fundamental knowledge of LC and highlight the barriers of its implementation. The literature reviews has been conducted through relevant databases. It was found that there is a need for more holistic approaches to be adopted in LC implementation such as health and safety, and six sigma. A systematic training and research are also found vital to provide good interaction and collaboration with the stakeholders. LC is also capable to enhance sustainability in construction thus the quality of life for future Malaysian construction industry.

The aim of this study is to review the gaps that exist, particularly on how VM is being practiced in comparison with the published VM body of knowledge. Highly depending on literatures, observations and semi structured interviews, this paper discovered two-fold gaps: the unclear description of current VM applications and the lack of exploration on the behavioural elements of VM workshops. This research aims to provide new insights to enhance understanding of VM implementation in Malaysia.

This paper provided the fundamental knowledge of LC and highlighted its implementation in the construction industry. It was discovered that the knowledge of stakeholders are reasonably significant as the principles of LC is widely implemented in the work field. However, the stakeholders are indifferent in their understanding on the basic terminologies of LC hence unable to reap its full potential. It was proven that by implementing LC, the construction industry benefits by maximising value and improved sustainability.

Four low-rise building projects which adopted IBS and conventional methods of construction were selected for case studies. The findings suggest that construction using inter-locking blocks and prefabricated systems can reduce the overall cost, time, manpower and produces better quality housing than the conventional method. Environmentally, IBS also facilitates waste minimization and reduction, thus further highlighting its positive economics, while reductions in overall manpower requirements may also bring about less dependency on foreign labour.

The aim of the research is to explore the perception towards implementation of VM among the private consultants of the construction industry in Malaysia during these VM implementation processes. This research consists of two main objectives which are to gauge the perception of private sector practitioners towards VM implementation, and to identify the acceptance level of the construction consultants on VM implementation. This research hopefully will provide a new insight towards VM implementation among the private sector in Malaysia.

A questionnaire survey of 7 pages was sent to 5581 numbers of registered developers, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and project managers to seek their experience on VM applications. A return rate of 7.5 per cent or 411 numbers of respondents were received.

The aim of the study was to evaluate and rank a range of factors that Malaysian IBS stakeholders regard as important, with the key identified factors being those associated with the main project characteristics, contract procedures and procurement methods, contractors' and consultants' attributes and design parameters besides external market conditions. Remarkably, factors grouped under the consultants and design parameters, external factors and government/authority requirements indicate low RII index while project/IBS characteristics, contractor attributes, external market conditions denote high RII index.
