
Rex Kuye
Dr. Rex A. Kuye is currently a professor and head of the Department of Public and Environmental Health at the School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, The University of The Gambia. He was an examiner of the West Africa Health Examination Board, a former Fogarty scholar, an adjunct assistant professor at the College of Public Health of the University of Iowa 2007, and a founding member and first president of the West African Postgraduate College of Environmental Health. Dr. Kuye received a Public Health Inspector’s certificate from the School of Public Health, The Gambia and a Public Health Inspectors Diploma from the Royal Society of Health, UK; a BSc and MSc degree in Zoology from Eastern Illinois University; an MPH in Environmental Health Sciences from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine; and a PhD in Occupational and Environment Health from the College of Public Health of The University of lowa, in the USA. Dr. Kuye started his career in academia as a lecturer at The Gambia College-School of Public Health. Where he rose to the positions of senior lecturer, principal lecturer, head of school, and finally Vice Principal of the College, before moving to the University of The Gambia in 2009. Dr. Kuye has served as Principal and Co-Principal Investigator for a number of internationally sponsored researches. A recent one, is the NIH/FIC funded Global Environmental & Occupational Health (GEOHealth) for the West African sub-region. His research interest borders on the impact of the work environment on workers, and that of the work on the environment; particularly farming related injuries and illnesses. Dr. Kuye has authored and co-authored several journal articles in Agricultural Health and Safety among others of global health concern.
