The mural art project in Yogyakarta City provides a unique example of the role that public art can play in urban setting. The artist-initiated project involved a range of community groups to participate. However, the policy on public art in urban environment remains absent. At the same time the literatures are not conclusive on how the public art can benefit urban environment as well as the citizens. In-depth information does not exist on how the public art can improve the quality of urban environment, especially in the local context of Yogyakarta City, since little research has been conducted on the subject in the field of urban management.
This research aims to explore the impact of public art on urban environment within the context of Yogyakarta City. It translates into the question of how public art affects the urban environment in Yogyakarta City. To answer the question, first what public art is needs to be defined; and then how citizens perceive the public art and its impact on urban environment. The citizen participation in public art and the prospect of public art in urban context are then discussed. The conceptual model developed from the literature includes public art, urban environment, perception, participation and prospect of public art in urban context.
This research is exploratory in nature and using single case study and survey strategies. A mix of quantitative data analysis using statistical tools and qualitative data analysis is used in this research. The grounded theory approach is also used to develop the research design.
The research finds from the questionnaires that there are multidimensional impacts of public art in urban environment. The perceived benefits of public art either in physical, social or cultural domains suggest that public art is very prominent in creating livability and sustainability of the city. However, further critical studies on public art are still needed to really understand the functional and artistic aspects of public art in the context of urban environment.

As a public building, mosque should not give any barrier for Muslim (Islamic community) to perform their religious activities. Mosque is regularly used at least five times a day for praying, and more frequent with other events. Mosque should be friendly for all. All information should be able to be understood by its jamaah (congregation), but in fact some people still find problems to attain it nowadays. For example, praying call that's made resound through audio instrument for sure is a problem for Muslim with hearing obstacle. Other problems also occur in recent mosques and these facts turn into a barrier for Muslim to do their religious activities. Those problems are tried to be solved through this universal mosque design.

Trans-jogja is the latest transportation mode that gives new alternative for the mobility of people of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY). It is operated both for an alternative and also for improving the recent performance of public transportation mode and fulfilling several requirements that not facilitated yet. One of those essential requirement is the accessibility-the ease of reached and used by anyone. Accessibility issue was proclaimed legally since 1998 through the publishment of Kepmen PU (Decision of the Ministry of Public Work) No.468/KPTS/1998. This issue gets good attention in DIY, and it is proofed by the fact that Yogyakarta city is the pionir and also the pilot project for the implementation of accessibility on public facilities, such as pedestrian path, bus terminal, and govermnet buildings. Since the early planning phase of Trans-jogja, accessibility issue has taken into account. Elements such as bus and its shelter tried to facilitate what is needed by difabel in its plan but in the reality the trans-jogja's accessibility is still far from hoped. The Life Design Project of Environmental Accessibility Elective Course Tahun Ajaran 2009/2010 evaluated and-at the same time-proposed the trans-jogja bus shelter's accessibility improvement. This paper shows existing problems and solutions that could be taken for fixing it.

The Indonesian Pavilion in the 1964 New York World's Fair was built as a grand house for Indonesia's first participation in an international exposition after its independence. It was created from 1957-60s, which was enlivened by a series of monumental projects known as nation-building projects. The pavilion was the only luxurious structure built outside the country. While the nation-building project has been studied by scholars, an explanation of the Indonesian Pavilion has not yet been found. Therefore, this paper, by comparing nation-building projects and the Indonesian Pavilion, aims to describe the architectural characteristics of the Indonesian Pavilion and clarify its position as a nation-building project.

Indonesian pavilion in 1964 New York World Fair and Tugu Nasional (National Obelisk) were built in the same period of Nation-Building Projects through the same collaboration work of President Sukarno (as the patron) and Soedarsono (as the architect). Both buildings displayed several similarities as the result of the nature of Sukarno and Soedarsono work method. The purpose of the study, through the comparison, is to get further description about the architecture of Indonesian pavilion. It is identified that Indonesian Pavilion was an identical twin of Tugu Nasional that created to live in and for different environment.

Bermain bagi anak-anak merupakan suatu kegiatan penting yang dapat membangun jiwa dan raganya sehingga menjadi orang dewasa yang sehat jiwa dan raganya. Bermain dapat dilakukan dimana saja. Senda (1992), menyatakan bahwa anak-anak dapat bermain kapan dan dimana saja, maka tugas dari orang dewasa untuk menyediakan tempat bermain yang aman bagi mereka.

Ketersediaan tempat bermain bagi anak seringkali masih diabaikan dalam pembangunan perkotaan. Pertumbuhan penduduk yang pesat di kawasan perkotaan menimbulkan konsekuensi pada meningkatnya kebutuhan lahan untuk permukiman serta fasilitas pendukung lainnya. Sementara itu ketersediaan lahan di perkotaan jumlahnya relatif tetap. Hal ini menimbulkan konsekuensi terjadinya konflik penggunaan lahan. Dalam kondisi semacam ini, kepentingan anak-anak seringkali dikorbankan. Kurangnya lahan terbuka di perkotaan membuat anak-anak sering terpaksa bermain di tempat-tempat yang berbahaya seperti jalan, rel kereta, atau bantaran sungai. Di sisi lain taman bermain yang khusus di desain untuk anak-anak seringkali tidak sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan keinginan anak-anak itu sendiri.

Berdasarkan hal-hal tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji karakteristik aktivitas bermain anak saat ini, dan kondisi serta lokasi tempat bermain mereka, baik tempat bermain yang memang disediakan untuk mereka maupun tempat bermain yang mereka ciptakan sendiri dengan memanfaatkan ruang publik yang ada. Penelitian ini juga mencakup persepsi anak-anak terhadap tempat bermain yang ada maupun tempat bermain ideal yang mereka harapkan. Untuk tujuan-tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini mengambil tempat di Kelurahan Cokrodiningratan, Kecamatan Jetis, Yogyakarta. Kel. Cokrodiningratan merupakan kelurahan yang berpenduduk padat, hampir 200 jiwa/ha, lebih tinggi dari kepadatan Kota Yogyakarta, dengan guna lahan sebagian besar permukiman. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi lapangan. Wawancara juga dilakukan untuk mendapatkan persepsi dari anak-anak dan anggota masyarakat lainnya.

Dari penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa berbeda dengan dugaan semula, anak-anak di wilayah studi memiliki waktu bermain lebih tinggi daripada rata-rata waktu bermain anak-anak di kota-kota besar lainnya menurut studi terdahulu. Hal ini diduga berkaitan dengan jenis permainan dan karakteristik bermain yang mereka miliki, walaupun ada keterbatasan dari sisi luasan tempat bermain. Selain itu salah satu hasil terpenting dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa anak-anak lebih menyukai tempat bermain yang mempunyai setting alami dibandingkan tempat bermain yang terstruktur.

the mobility of low-income people. Although considered as burdening, many low-income people are forced to have more than one motorcycles. The motorcycles are mostly used for the purposes of work and education, so that the absence of this mode of transportation can affect their lives substiantally.

It has long been recognized that transport has a significant effect on the occurrence of social exclusion. The absence or lack of access to transport can cause a person or group in difficulty to participate in various activities, such as difficulty of getting jobs, education, health care, and difficulty participating in arts and cultural activities. Individuals or groups that hampered his participation due to lack of access to transport is stated in literatures as experiencing transport-related social exclusion (TRSE). Other term to explain what happened to the person or the group is transport or mobility disadvantage, although the two terms are not always synonymous. Transport-related social exclusion is usually experienced by the poorest people (which are only able to live in a place with limited accessibility) and those who are socially disadvantaged such as people with disabilities, the elderly, women and people from ethnic minorities. For inclusive transportation planning, accommodating the interests of each group, including marginalized groups is critical. In this regard, this paper aims to examine the various methods that have been developed to identify the occurrence of transport-related social exclusion as an input for an inclusive transportation planning. The method used in this paper is literature review. Based on the review, there are three methods used in assessing transport disadvantage and TRSE, which are GIS, modelling and statistical analysis, and qualitative analysis. These three methods have its own advantage and disadvantage and could complement each other. There are also some issues in utilizing these methods in Indonesia, which are: data availability and cultural barriers.

Kawasan perdesaan Cemara Jaya dan Batu Raja merupakan salah satu kawasan perdesaan eks transmigrasi di Kabupaten Halmahera Timur, Provinsi Maluku Utara yang saat ini telah berkembang pesat, baik dari aspek sosial ekonomi maupun perkembangan fisik. Berbagai perkembangan tersebut menyebabkan meningkatnya perubahan penggunaan lahan, terutama perubahan dari lahan non produktif menjadi lahan produktif. Untuk itu diperlukan analisis terkait penggunaan lahan untuk menggambarkan dinamika perubahan yang terjadi. Analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis overlay yang dilakukan secara multi periode yakni tahun 1982, 1990, 2000, 2010, dan 2017. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya perubahan penggunaan lahan di kawasan perdesaan Cemara Jaya dan Batu Raja dari penggunaan lahan yang didominasi hutan menjadi penggunaan lahan yang didominasi sawah.
