In this context, it is necessary to better understand the models of education and knowledge production in tourism. Therefore, this article will work primarily with one of the pioneers in the study of tourism education-Jafar Jafari. The goals of this paper are to analyze their key publications, which the theoretical paradigm that it fits and their most significant contributions in the field of tourism. Therefore, was used the method of bibliographic research, based on the indexed journals, books and the main texts of the Jafari. As main results, we highlight the main contributions of the author to propose its multidisciplinary model for the study of tourism and the proposal of the five knowledge platforms for tourism.
Technologies brought new forms of business as in the case of group buying sites, which are basica... more Technologies brought new forms of business as in the case of group buying sites, which are basically a way to sell on the Internet that allows consumers to buy goods and services at lower prices. This study ana-lyzed the travelers’ perception of the use of group buying sites to acquire tourist services coupons. The research presents a quantitative-exploratory approach using the Technology Acceptance Model to investigate the use of group buying sites to acquire tourist services coupons during a trip. They were collected 60 valid questionnaires with students from a public university in northeastern of Brazil. It was used a data collection survey type, with a non-probabilistic convenience sample. Since this is a pilot study with a small sample, the results were verified by the structural equation modeling (SEM), using the technique Partial Least Squares (PLS). From the analysis, it was found that most people who responded to the questionnaires are using group buying sites to acquire tour-ist services coupons. However, according to the results, the group buying sites may not be easy tools to help in decision making in purchasing tourism services.
This paper aimed to analyze mainly how the main agents responsible for the promotion of tourism i... more This paper aimed to analyze mainly how the main agents responsible for the promotion of tourism in Ceará-Mirim, Natal, Brazil, has realized the importance of cultural tourism attractions as a differential for the city. For this, interviews were conducted with managers responsible for public sector tourism and local culture, as well as professionals involved in the promotion and enhancement of cultural heritage and tourism in the town. This study is characterized as being exploratory descriptive with qualitative approach. The results revealed that the county has not yet awakened to the use of cultural resource as a differential tourism product, besides the absence of continuous and innovative cultural activities, which are presented as one of the factors obstacle for achieving competitive advantage in the city. Furthermore, the incipient population participation in the process of tourism planning and lack of public policies that give grants for the creation of a favorable environment for the practice of cultural tourism have reflected the disadvantage that Ceará-Mirim is the detriment of other tourist destinations in the state. In this sense, the lack of preservation of historic and cultural heritage is revealed falls far short of sustainability required for the consolidation of a competitive differential.
