O tema deste estudo é os momentos constitutivos da propriedade no direito abstrato, da Filosofi a do Direito de Hegel. Inicialmente, expõem-se leituras de alguns autores, tematizando-se no direito abstrato o desenvolvimento lógico da vontade individual ou da personalidade. Depois, analisa-se o problema da posse/propriedade entre o ser-aí do corpo e o ser-aí das demais coisas. Se para os outros eu sou essencialmente um ser livre em meu corpo, qual liberdade/propriedade decorre do apossamento do corpo pelo espírito? Conclui-se com a descrição dos três momentos da dialética da propriedade: a determinação positiva da tomada de posse de uma coisa, a determinação negativa do uso desta coisa e a determinação infi nita de alheá-la.

O tema do reconhecimento é central na obra de G. W. F Hegel. Classicamente, situa-se na figura da luta entre o senhor e o escravo, na Fenomenologia do Espírito. A intersubjetividade e, portanto, o reconhecimento, na obra hegeliana, colocam o seguinte problema: como é possível construir uma interpretação que supere o conceito de subjetividads moderna, positivado pela prática jusfilosófica, vindo a garantir um novo paradigma fundado na intersubjetividade e, portanto, pressupondo a teoria hegeliana do reconhecimento? Em primeiro lugar, analisa-se o desejo antropológico de reconhecimento como fonte da idéia de justiça em A. Kojéve. Em seguida, apresenta-se, segundo 0 mesmo autor, a fenomenologia da justiça, que parte do princípio de que o desejo, conforme Hegel, quer o reconhecimento, sendo este a fonte última da idéia de justiça. Throughout the 1980s, Australia was preparing for its biggest national celebration yet: that of the Bicentenary of the arrival of the first European settlers. The Australian Bicentenary can be seen as a media event, which is defined as a construct, rather than a representation of the social order (Couldry 56) and, as such, this generated an interesting conflict between the many different, sometimes contrasting, versions of Australian history to be presented as official. The controversy was mainly centred on the representation of Aborigines, ethnic minorities and, to a certain degree, the involvement of women throughout history which, in turn, exposed the fragility of historical narratives as truth and fact. Academic historians were well aware of the necessity to reorient the historiographic process since the so-called poststructural turn, but as these debates were strongly connected to the Bicentenary, this was arguably the first time that the Australian public was made aware of them. An interesting consequence of the shift of these debates from academia to society was the massive increase in the writing and publication of historical fiction. Novelists became key figures in the process of reassessing and reconstructing Australian history, demonstrating, thus, the fluidity of the boundaries between history and fiction. This thesis examines the many ways in which historical fiction was used to question and undermine the “legend” form of Australian national identity (as defined, primarily, by Russel Ward) as creator and holder of history, how this dynamic connects with the political project of the Labor government of the 1980s in its attempt to promote historic heteroglossia and social polyphony in the continent, and how the Bicentenary acted as an important catalyst for these debates. Chapter One provides a context of the political and institutional making of the Bicentenary from the creation of the Australian Bicentennial Authority in 1979, also looking at the historical and broader literary projects associated with it. Chapter Two examines in more detail the changes in the discipline of history (from constructionist to reconstructionist to deconstructionist modes of historiography) and the postmodern influence of metafictional historiography. The following chapters are analytical and examine the many ways in which the classical notion of Australian identity was questioned by novelists. Chapter Three focuses on the rise and influence of second-wave feminism in history and historical fiction. Chapter Four deals with the displacement of manliness from the defining centre of identity. Chapter Five looks at the notion of Aboriginality and how it was being defined and redefined in the 1980s. Chapter Six examines the rise of ethnic literatures in the early stages of Australian multiculturalism. The conclusion briefly looks at how these debates about the boundaries between history and fiction have changed in the 1990s and 2000s, paying particular attention to the contemporary resurgence of these debates seen since the publication of The Secret River in 2005.

O continente australiano viveu, na década de 1980, um período de intensos debates sobre o papel da história e da historiografia na construção da identidade nacional graças aos preparativos das comemorações do bicentenário da colonização europeia, a acontecer em 1988. A partir desse debate, em boa parte instigado pelo governo central de orientação trabalhista -- de volta ao poder depois de quase 30 anos -- questões referentes à exclusão histórica do discurso das minorias (étnicas, de gênero e orientação sexual) na construção da história "oficial" australiana começam a surgir em historiografias "alternativas" mas, principalmente, fomentam o surgimento de dezenas de romances históricos (alguns deles encomendados pelo governo) que questionam a formação da identidade nacional australiana atingindo, assim, o público-leitor médio daquele país e, de certa forma, democratizando o debate. O presente trabalho -- uma versão extremamente reduzida de minha tese de doutorado em AUstralian Literature and Cultural History defendida na University of Queensland, em 2007 -- almeja colocar o gênero do romance histórico sob uma perspectiva diferente: aquela de um elemento político fundamental para a discussão dos pilares formativos de uma identidade nacional que é, essencialmente, multiétnica, ainda quer o discurso oficial ignorasse tal fato, e que culminou na redefinição do que se entende como história australiana. Em outras palavras: pode o romance histórico servir como veículo político de discussão histórica? E, caso afirmativo, quais os limites de tal projeto?

Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness (1899) is among the best works of literature of the 20th Century. The story of the journey up the Congo river in Africa, made by a sailor who was incharge of collecting the ivory from the colony can be read through several different criticalperspectives. The goal of this thesis is to apply a postcolonial reading (based, mainly, onEdward Said’s theory of Orientalism) in order to perceive how Conrad portrayed imperialismin the Belgian colony of Congo, as well as the mechanisms the author used to construct theblack African characters in his narrative. The narrative showed to be a reflection of the web of ambiguities and ambivalences that characterized the imperial ideology – theory and practice being so distant from each other.

There has been an interesting increase, in the last thirty years or so, in the number of dystopian novels published in English. These novels have undoubtedly forced a renewed understanding in the concepts of utopia and dystopia,. This paper, part of my postdoctoral research in literary theory at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, seeks to analyse the forms in which this new form of utopian/dystopian literature explores the contemporary political climate in Great Britain in two novels and one film set in future or
alternative present times. The texts examined here are P.D. James’s The Children of Men (1992) and Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go (2005), as well as Alfonso Cuarón’s adaptation of James’s novel, Children of Men (2006). One aspect that brings these texts together is the important element I refer to as politics of the transhuman body: social forms of dealing with or regulate corporality in a context of social and political changes in Europe where humanity is defined by a relation to technology with means to eliminate organic flaws.

Quando se pensa em violência, a associação imediata é aquela com atos de brutalidade física ou mental, no entanto, há diversas outras práticas ideológicas que também podem ser consideradas violentas. A própria imposição de uma posição subjetiva ideológica pode ser vista como um ato de violência. O artigo, uma tentativa de reflexão subjetiva e pouco acadêmica, busca relacionar uma ideia mais ampla de violência, definida a partir da relação do ato com a sua mediação e transformação em espetáculo com a audiência que se constrói a partir da relação com essa mediação focando, principalmente, na figura da pessoa de bem como espectador-alvo.

The resurgence of novels dealing with dystopian cosmogonies since the 1990s may reveal a newtrend in Utopian Studies. If classical dystopia was defined by the impositionof collective political and social structures upon the individual and out ofwhich there was no escape (as constructed, mainly, by Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four), thesecontemporary dystopian novels critically construct posthuman societies wherethe focus is on the development of the dystopian body, which questions andreinvents the very definitions of humanity. This article aims at examining theeffects of posthuman critique upon the construction of the dystopian body inP.D. James’s novel The Children of Men.

Um dos principais debates na Austrália diz respeito a encontrar maneiras próprias de representar Aboriginalidade artisticamente em toda sua complexidade. Isto deve-se, em parte, à influência do pós-estruturalismo no final da década de 1960, desenvolvendo uma preocupação em recriar a história australiana. Tal atitude foi adotada também na literatura, marcada pela publicação do primeiro romance Aborígene em 1983. Desde então, os romances escritos por Aborígenes e/ou contendo temas ligados à realidade dos primeiros habitantes da Austrália tendem a problematizar as noções de construção de Aboriginalidade na literatura. Este artigo analisa tal debate através de três livros escritos e publicados nos anos 1980: Doctor Wooreddy's Prescription for Enduring the Ending of the World (1983), My Place (1987) e Don't Take Your Love to Town (1988).

Muito se discute o caráter político dos romances distópicos da chamada segunda virada (do fim do século XIX a meados da década de 1950), vistos especialmente como críticas contundentes a regimes políticos totalitários. No entanto, uma nova vertente de romances distópicos, nos últimos 30 anos, tem discutido o impacto do desejo criado pelo capitalismo tardio na transfiguração do corpo, o que tem sido central para a construção de ideias pós-humanas e transumanas. O presente artigo almeja discutir as mudanças encontradas na literatura distópica de língua inglesa ao longo do século XX para propor uma terceira virada distópica na literatura, a partir dos escritos de Fredric Jameson sobre ficção científica e utopia, nos últimos trinta anos. Para tanto, exemplos de vários romances pertencentes a tal tendência são brevemente discutidos a fim de criar um panorama teórico-crítico que embase tal proposta.

This paper aims to problematise the recent resurgence of literary dystopian narratives in Anglophone literatures, suggesting that such narratives must be read through a perspective that considers the centrality of the dystopian body as a transhuman entity. From the arguments raised by the discussions of transhumanism and posthumanism, the impact of scientific development in the construction of desire, and of the role of theological thought in postmodernity, the goal is to discuss how these ideas appear and are presented in Canadian novelist Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake.

African-American literature stands out for its interest in using the literary field as a way to protest and mainly to denounce social contexts marked by the use of oppression and violence. In this context, stands out in the literary scenario the novel Native Son (1940), written by the African-American writer Richard Wright, who describes through its protagonist Bigger Thomas, the painful details and psychological problems that characterize the black experience in a social context marked by oppression and violence. So, the present paper aims at developing some considerations about the African-American
experience depicted in Richard Wright‟s novel during the racial segregation period and attempts to examine how the social context interferes in its protagonist‟s psychology. To do so, we based our analysis on the studies developed by Brookshaw (1983), Bhabha (1998), Woodward (2009) e Silva (2009).

O estudo das distopias literárias clássicas do século XX (pertencentes, conforme Gregory Claeys, à segunda virada distópica) tende a centrar-se nas questões políticas das narrativas e, quase sempre, critica modelos alternativos de organização social, política e econômica onde regimes ditatoriais plenos ou tangenciais (como no caso de Admirável Mundo Novo) estão em vigor. No entanto,  desde meados da década de 1990, as narrativas distópicas (em língua inglesa, principalmente) voltaram à baila trazendo consigo outras preocupações além da centralidade de modelos políticos como fonte de opressão individual. Nessas narrativas, que proponho chamar de terceira virada distópica, a relação entre a tecnologia e o corpo biológico, centro das ideias de pós-humanismo e transumanismo, é fonte de angústia. Este trabalho visa problematizar as questões dos corpos transfigurados (conforme Fredrick Jameson) como elemento central das narrativas distópicas contemporâneas em língua inglesa, discutindo (mas não limitado) romances como The Children of Men, de P. D. James, Never Let Me Go, de Kazuo Ishiguro, a trilogia Maddaddam, de Margaret Atwood e a trilogia The Hunger Games, de Suzanne Collins.

One of the main pillars of posthuman and transhuman thought is the use of technology as a means to ameliorate human life by helping overcome the flaws and limitations of the biological body. The effect of such trends has been central to the development of contemporary, third-turn dystopian novels in English, published in the past thirty or so years. However, one important aspect of such narratives is also their list of transgressive characteristics, distancing them from their modern, second-turn counterparts. The following article aims to discuss how transgressive the ideas of dystopia and transhumanism that form Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam trilogy are, essentially discussing whatever lies at the core of the human condition.
