However, studies indicate that the material setting time reduces after recycling, generating more waste, but the cause of the phenomenon is not known. In-situ XRPD monitoring of plasters' hydration in their commercial form and after laboratory recycling process is carried out to verify both reactivity and hydration process. The samples are characterized by specific surface area, microporosity, and consistency tests. Sequential and parametric Rietveld refinements are employed to determine the weight fractions of calcium sulfate-based compounds present in the materials as a function of time. The increase in the consistency of the recycled plaster is not only associated with the increase of microporosity and specific surface area but also to the instant formation of gypsum as soon as the material comes into contact with water. These data also confirm the increase in the kinetic activity values calculated from the results of temperature kinetics tests, proving that the formation of hydrated compounds is much faster for the recycled plaster, which is associated with the increase of water contact area.

In order to identify new antinociceptive drug candidates, we described herein the design, synthesis, X-ray diffraction study and the pharmacological evaluation of a series of 3-amino-4-methylthiophene-2-acylcarbohydrazone derivatives (8a-t). Compounds were prepared in good overall yields through divergent synthesis from a common key intermediate and were characterized by classical spectroscopy methods. X-ray diffraction study was employed for unequivocal determination of the imine double bond stereochemistry. 8a-t were evaluated in vivo through oral administration using the classical writhing test in mice. N-acylhydrazone derivatives 8j and 8l displayed relative potency similar to dipyrone, highlighting them as promising analgesic lead-candidates for further investigation.

Although published SAR data show the importance of the NO2 and the Br substituents in PIK-75, none of the published studies could correctly assign the underlying reason for their importance. In this publication, we report the first X-ray crystal structure of PIK-75 in complex with the kinase GSK-3β. The structure shows an unusual U-shaped conformation of PIK-75 within the active site of GSK-3β that is likely stabilized by an atypical intramolecular Br···NO2 halogen bond. NMR and MD simulations show that this conformation presumably also exists in solution and leads to a binding competent pre-configuration of the PIK-75 molecule, thus explaining its high potency. We therefore suggest that the site-specific incorporation of halogen bonds could be generally used to design conformationally restricted bioactive substances with increased potencies.

X-ray powder diffractometry is an effective technique for the identification of crystalline solid-phase drugs. The technique is unique, since it combines specificity with a high degree of accuracy for the characterization of pharmaceuticals in solid state and is an especially useful method to describe the possible polymorphic behavior of drugs substances. In this work X-ray diffraction data have been obtained for two well-known antihypertensive drugs currently being administered in tablet form. They include atenolol and captopril. Atenolol and captopril were purchased from drugstore. The characterizations of the atenolol and captopril samples were carried out by FTIR spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD).

The approach is equivalent to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) albeit from such analysis it was possible to focus attention on the capacitive and dielectric relaxation instead of the dispersive relaxation related to charge transfer. From such approach it

Thin films with different compositions and crystal structures were obtained by varying the oxygen flow 2 1 2 (f). All samples, with the exception of the MoO film, showed an electrochromic behavior, due to the reversible Li / e 2 insertion or extraction process. The transmittance change (l 5 632.8 nm), for the best sample, was | 70%. The film having the best optical behavior is mostly formed by the b-MoO phase. The composition, optical and mechanical properties were 3 determined and analyzed in as-grown and in Li intercalated films. The local order structure was analyzed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements at the Mo Ledges. The valence band was studied by Photoelectron Spectroscopy.

The calculations were based on the Maxwell Garnett effective medium theory, with Au fill factors f varying from 0.0 to 0.05. The results for both media are very similar. The films were characterized by RBS, XRD, TEM, cyclic voltammetry and spectral transmittance measurements. The films present anodic electrochromism, and those containing Au show a selective absorption in the green region of the visible spectrum in the bleached state, which was observed after the intercalation/deintercalation process. Au reduction process occurs during electrochemical cycling.

Different samples were obtained by changing the deposition atmosphere or rf power during deposition, all other parameters remaining constant. The electrochemical/electrochromic performance during lithium extraction/insertion was investigated using aprotic electrolytes, over the whole stability range of the electrolyte. The results showed that all films, independent of the deposition conditions, were electrochemically active. Films deposited under pure Ar atmosphere and high rf power or under Ar + O 2 atmosphere and low power did not present significant electrochromic activity, and the valence band photoelectron spectrum did not show the presence of the Ni 3d line for the as-grown samples. In contrast, samples deposited under Ar + O 2 atmosphere and high power, or pure Ar atmosphere and low power showed a 70% transmittance change, and a stable voltammetric profile after some cycles. For these samples, the valence band photoelectron spectrum clearly presented the Ni 3d line. The electron population at the Ni 3d levels in the as-grown state seems to be responsible for the electrochromic ability.
