Supervisory control design based on hybrid systems and fuzzy events detection. Application to an oxichlorination reactor

The fuzzy event detector is a linguistic model, which synthesizes complex relations between process variables and process events incorporating experts' knowledge about the process operation. This kind of detection allows the anticipation of appropriate control actions, which depend upon the selected membership functions used to characterize the process under scrutiny. The proposed supervisory control scheme was successfully implemented for an oxichlorination reactor in a vinyl monomer plant. This implementation has allowed improvement of reactor stability and reduction of raw material consumption.

Service Orientation in Holonic and Multi-Agent Manufacturing, 2018
To satisfy the complex needs of a production process control, many architectures have been propos... more To satisfy the complex needs of a production process control, many architectures have been proposed which regularly can be classified into hierarchical (e.g. ISA 95 standard), heterarchical (e.g. multi-agent systems) and holonic or semiheterarchical, based on the holarchy notion (self-regulating holons organization with "smart" properties). A manufacturing system under the holonic approach (HMS) is considered part of the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) implying that the HMS are defined as highly distributed organizations. The goal of these organizations is to decentralize manufacturing into individual entities called holons, which are autonomous, cooperative and intelligent. A. Koestler defines the concept of Holon as a self-similar or fractal, stable and coherent structure consisting of several holon-shaped sub-structures. Thus, no elements in the holarchy can self-develop without their subordinated parts or components. This characteristic ensures that HMS are stable structures that can resist disturbances. Applying this concept results in control processes that are generalized in terms of the next-generation manufacturing systems. The state of the art reveals that traditional manufacturing systems and HMS approaches are characterized by the Production Unit (PU). Examples of HMS proposed during the last decades with their strengths and weaknesses are summarized hereafter. Finally, the goal of this research is to analyze, design, and validate a holonic PU (HPU) model of intelligent control based on HMS. Primary results show an implementation of a decentralized industrial automation. There are given HPU information models in order to establish a control architecture for manufacturing systems to support real-time plant operation.

This article contains material Petri Nets and sets some characterizations for the analysis of a class of SED. The most striking results establish, under certain conditions, the relationship between the absence of conflict and the independence of the occurrence of events. More precisely, established from a theoretical point of view some characterizations structures under free choice, free choice, safe and not blocked.

Indeed, the control of production processes is fast becoming a key driver for manufacturing operations. Manufacturing control systems have recently been developed for distributed or semi-heterarchical architectures, e.g., holonic systems improving global efficiency and manufacturing operations’ reactiveness. So far, previous studies and applications have not dealt with continuous production processes, such as applications for Water Supply System (WSS), oil refining, or electric power plants. The complexity of continuous production is that a single fault can degrade extensively and even cause service disruption. Therefore, this paper proposes the Holonic Production Unit (HPU) architecture as a solution to control continuous production processes. An HPU is created as a holon unit depicting resources in a continuous process. This unit can detect events within the environment, eva...

The theory of sliding mode control is used to synthesize a controller for the continuous dynamics. Now, to solve both the problem of discontinuity as the problem of insensitivity to uncertainty in the load resistance of such converter had to design a hybrid output feedback controller to guarantee the output voltage to a desired value. Particularly an approximate entropy (ApEn) concept is used as an innovative method that could detect any event generated on the continuous time dynamics in the hybrid system. It was found that the hybrid plant supervisor provides good results in terms of robustness to disturbances, maintaining a good dynamic response.
