This work focuses on the implementation process of the Natura 2000 Network in the Sierra Morena a... more This work focuses on the implementation process of the Natura 2000 Network in the Sierra Morena area of Cordoba, with the aim of evaluating its territorial repercussions and, particularly, its significance as a potential tool for the socioeconomic revitalization of mid-mountain areas. . This year 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the approval of Directive 92/43/CEE of the Council, of May 21 (Habitats Directive), by which the aforementioned Network was created, a period of time sufficient to undertake our evaluation. In the first place, the process of conformation of the Red Natura in the north of Córdoba is presented, based on the previous existence of two Natural Parks that will become part of it, to which twelve Special Conservation Areas (ZEC) will be added. ) and a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA). Next, the physical-natural conditions of the territory are studied, as well as the sociodemographic situation of the municipalities that host the Natura spaces in the Sierra Morena of Cordoba. Finally, the management model, the planning instruments and the initiatives applied in the spaces that make up the Network are analyzed, where three situations coexist that must be differentiated: that of the two pre-existing Natural Parks (Sierra de Hornachuelos and Sierra de Cardeña -Montoro), the one corresponding to the rest of the ZEC with its recent Management Plans and, finally, the one for the area represented by the Alto Guadiato ZEPA.
