
David García Cantalapiedra
David Garcia Cantalapiedra holds a PhD on Political Science (Honors) by the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). He was awarded with the 2001 National Award Defense, Spanish Ministry of Defense.
He is currently Professor, Department of International Relations, Faculty of Political Sciences, and Director, UCM Group on International and Strategic Studies . He also teaches US Foreign Policy and Transatlantic Relations at the Spanish Foreign Service School and he is also lecturer at the Joint Staff Course, Spanish Armed Forces School (ESFAS), Joint Spanish MoD-UCM Master program.
In 2018 he was member, Strategic Study Group on Migrations, Immigration Special Committee. National Security Department, (Spanish Prime Minister Office), Spain. He is also member, Working Group on Organize Crime and Illicit Traffics at the Royal Elcano Institute. He also conducted a 2017-19 Santander Group-UCM Research Project on the 2016 EUGS, Terrorism-Organize Crime synergies in the Mediterranean and Spanish policy options.
He previously was Senior Analyst, US Foreign Policy and Transatlantic Relations at the Royal Elcano Institute 2007-2009; Fellow, Strategy Review Group. 10th NATO Transatlantic Opinion Leaders Program (NATO HQ), Afghanistan, March 2009; and Member, Working Group on NATO Nuclear Posture. NATO Strategic Concept Review. US Defense Threat Reduction Agency-NATO Nuclear Policy Planning Directorate 2008-2011.
He has been Loyola Visiting Professor at the Ateneo de Manila University and Visiting Professor, UN University for Peace program. Manila, 2013-14. Then 2017 EU Centre Fellow, Singapore Universities Consortium; He has been teaching Spanish Foreign Policy as Visiting Professor at the Department of European and International Studies/Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies at King’s College, London, UK in 2018.
