Our aim is to identify the steps that librarians can take concerning altmetrics within the framework of the research support services offered by librarians. Design/Methodology/Approach. The current bibliography on altmetrics has been reviewed, especially that which refers to librarians. A survey has also been carried out of librarians of Spanish universities to find out their degree of involvement in the matter and the setting up of relevant initiatives. Findings. Librarians have an important role in the disseminating of altmetrics and in the training of using them in the best interests of their researchers' scientific publications. This role is also important as assessors for the administration in order to value these metrics in university processes, as well as their inclusion in catalogs, databases or repositories. ABSTRACT Se busca identificar los pasos, a modo de hoja de ruta, que deben dar los bibliotecarios... more ABSTRACT Se busca identificar los pasos, a modo de hoja de ruta, que deben dar los bibliotecarios en la difusión, formación y asesoramiento de las métricas complementarias o altmetrics en el marco de los servicios que ofrecen a sus investigadores. Así mismo se enumeran una serie de razones por las que los bibliotecarios deben tener un papel activo en relación a estas métricas sin olvidar sus limitaciones. Se ha realizado una revisión de la bibliografía y dirigido una encuesta online a bibliotecarios de universidades españolas para conocer su grado de implicación y actividad en este tema, contribuyendo a proporcionar la visión que tienen de las altmetrics ya que representan un elemento estratégico en su difusión y formación.

ABSTRACT The design of new curricula, as a result of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), a... more ABSTRACT The design of new curricula, as a result of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and new teaching methodology has meant an opportunity to overhaul traditional training provided by Spanish University Libraries (SUL). The aim of this paper is to report the state of affairs of training in information management competency over the past three years in Spanish University Libraries and to present the role of REBIUN (Spanish University Library Network). For this purpose, a diagnosis of the current situation has been carried out. This will enable to have a vision of the practices as well as of the consolidation level of the different training models on Information Competency (IC) and Computing Competency and Information Skills (IC2), taking into account good practices of a number of reference and cutting-edge libraries within the Spanish panorama.
