The Tc and Jc values were found to be similar to that of the single phase YBaCuO compound whereas the electrical and thermal conductivities above Tc were drastically increased. A very low contact resistance was observed.

We present a study of the angular dependence of the resistivity tensor up to 35 T in elemental bi... more We present a study of the angular dependence of the resistivity tensor up to 35 T in elemental bismuth complemented by torque magnetometry measurements in a similar configuration. For at least two particular field orientations a few degrees off the trigonal axis, the Hall resistivity was found to become field-independent within experimental resolution in a finite field window corresponding to a field which is roughly three times the frequency of quantum oscillations. The Hall plateaus rapidly vanish as the field is tilted off theses magic angles. We identify two distinct particularities of these specific orientations, which may play a role in the emergence of the Hall plateaus.

Using recent experimental data on their temperature variation, the in-plane electrical and therma... more Using recent experimental data on their temperature variation, the in-plane electrical and thermal conductivities of low stage graphite acceptor intercalation compounds are analyzed. A 2D model is used for the electrical resistivity to interpret the data and some features specific to 2D conduction are underlined. After introducing the various mechanisms responsible for thermal conduction, the effect of intercalation on the thermal conductivity of pristine graphites is discussed.

: It was found that the thermoelectric power of polycrystalline bismuth increases with decreasing... more : It was found that the thermoelectric power of polycrystalline bismuth increases with decreasing thickness at room temperature. Parallel galvanomagnetic and resistivity measurements indicate that the mean free paths of the charge carriers remain unchanged in the range of thickness investigated. Applying Herring's simplified formula, combined with the law of emf's in parallel extended to three band conduction, it was found that a phonon-drag mechanism could explain the observed increase in TEP and the order of magnitude of the effect. The expected variation of the diffusion thermoelectric power with temperature in the range 80-300K was also computed, using the correct band structure and the temperature dependence of the density of free carriers. Besides, it was found that at 80K, the magnetoresistance is not the same for thin foils, whether the magnetic field is perpendicular or parallel to the surface of the foil. Abstract In the present work, the effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) addition on the electrical co... more Abstract In the present work, the effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) addition on the electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of thermoplastic polymers was investigated. CNTs were incorporated into the polymer matrix either in high concentrations (masterbatch) or as an additive in small quantity (dilution source of masterbatches in a polymeric binder). Masterbatches containing a 5–20% by weight of CNTs and composites obtained through their addition in polypropylene - the actual content of CNTs in polymer 0.1 and 0.01 wt% - were synthesized and characterized by mechanical tests and scanning electron microscopy. Also, the frequency dependence of the AC electrical conductivity of masterbatches and dilute composites were measured. It has been shown that the introduction of masterbatches containing 10 wt% of CNT provides a more efficient reinforcement of the composite than those using masterbatches with 5 and 20 wt% of CNTs. It is also found that the alternating current (AC) conductivities display two or three regions: regions of constant conductivity and regions where the conductivity increases with increasing frequency (following the percolation scaling law). It was also observed that the conductivity increases drastically with increasing CNT content in the investigated concentration range (from 0 to 20 wt%).

Ultrasonic-assisted sulphuric acid leaching combined with a Fenton-like process, utilizing nanosc... more Ultrasonic-assisted sulphuric acid leaching combined with a Fenton-like process, utilizing nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI), was investigated to enhance the leaching of zinc from the blast furnace sludge (BFS). The leaching of iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) from the sludge was investigated using Milli-Q water/BFS ratio of 10 and varying the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, sulphuric acid, the temperature, the input energy for ultrasound irradiation, and the presence or absence of nZVI as a Fenton reagent. The results showed that with 1g/l addition of nZVI and 0.05M of hydrogen peroxide, the kinetic rate of Zn leaching increased with a maximum dissolution degree of 80.2%, after 5min treatment. In the absence of nZVI, the maximum dissolution degree of Zn was 99.2%, after 15min treatment with 0.1M of hydrogen peroxide. The rate of Zn leaching at several concentrations of hydrogen peroxide is accelerated in the presence of nZVI although a reduction in efficiency was observed. The loss of Fe was no more than 3%. On the basis of these results, the possible route for BFS recycling has been proposed (BFS slurry mixed with sulphuric acid and hydrogen peroxide is recirculated under ultrasonic irradiation then separated).

Carbon atoms have the unique capability of associating with each other in different ways at the m... more Carbon atoms have the unique capability of associating with each other in different ways at the macro-and nanoscopic scales to form various architectures, some of them being unique. Following the discovery of fullerenes, these last twenty-five years witnessed the discovery of some new forms of carbon atom associations leading to a large diversity of nanocarbons with fascinating properties. As regards bulk carbons, the decade preceding the discovery of fullerenes paved the way for finding some physical properties which were found later to be displayed in these new nano entities. This mainly concerns the semiclassical and, more particularly, the quantum aspects of two-dimensional (2D) electronic transport and the behavior of phonons in low-dimensional materials. These effects are discussed here in relation to the electrical and thermal conductivities of various nano-carbon based materials. This chapter also reflects the obvious similarities and differences observed in the transport properties of an isolated single layer graphene out of the bulk (SLG), or a few layers of graphene out of the bulk (FLG), supported or suspended, and those of a single (stage-1) or more (stage-n, where n = 2, 3,. . .) of these carbon layer planes sandwiched between planes formed by other chemical species, as is the case for macroscopic graphite intercalation compounds (GICs), and more particularly quasi
