Tal vez, el titulo resulte un poco osado al intentar abarcar el tema de la participacion, definid... more Tal vez, el titulo resulte un poco osado al intentar abarcar el tema de la participacion, definida por el autor, en un documento breve, ya que este concepto, como bien sabemos, es un proceso extenso que significa distintas acciones de parte de usuarios y tecnicos en el tiempo, en el cual se involucran muchos actores con multiples intereses y, como tal, se ha tratado en innumerables ocasiones de definirla y encausarla. Sin embargo, sin pretender descifrar toda su evolucion, ya que ello significa una investigacion de mayor tiempo, si podemos extraer aquellas situaciones en donde se han visto efectos reales en el escenario urbano.El interes se centra, entonces, en plantearla como instrumento palpable de desarrollo y mejora en la calidad de vida de los habitantes de la ciudad. Apoyados en la idea que la praxis da real sentido a los planteamientos teoricos, revisaremos algunos ejemplos para ilustrar el tema propuesto en esta ocasion.

This paper explores the role of natural disasters in the processes of devaluation, and revaluatio... more This paper explores the role of natural disasters in the processes of devaluation, and revaluation, decline and gentrification in the city center. In this sense, we argue that natural disasters are key protagonists in urban renewal strategies, and are part of a creative destruction approach. The comparative case studies in Seville (Spain), Mexico City (Mexico) and Talca (Chile) show that natural disasters have been crucial facts in the devaluation of centrally located areas, as well as their subsequent revaluation stage. The paper concludes that the relationship between natural disasters, urban renewal and gentrification is more than a mechanical effect, rather it is a strategic field that can be oriented toward either speculative interventions and social approaches. Thus, we suggested that urban policies and natural disasters should be part of a same politic agenda, which includes all the reconstruction stage

The energetic and luminous benefits of solar radiation are some of the factors that best regulate... more The energetic and luminous benefits of solar radiation are some of the factors that best regulate the quality of life in the human habitat, both in private and public spaces. However, this condition has been strongly disrupted in the last decades with the appearance of high-rise buildings —verticalization for this research—, which is a result of a prevailing real estate model and one of the typologies of contemporary gentrification. The present article proposes to install the definition of solar access in the urban discussion, establishing its regulation as a citizen right, and to integrate it properly to a process of urban renewal that reverts the expulsion of original residents. First, the norms in our Chilean legislation regarding the direct or indirect regulation of solar access are analyzed. This research analyzes the challenges of open access of scientific journals of urbanism, architec... more This research analyzes the challenges of open access of scientific journals of urbanism, architecture, design and art in Chile. Based on an analysis of the content of the web pages of the journals and the application of a survey to their editors, the access and publication formats, use of journal management systems, Creative Commons licenses, copyright policies, use of plagiarism detection software and financing models are examined in detail. The results show that all academic journals in the field of urbanism, architecture, design and art in Chile are published by non-profit universities, and declare themselves as “open access”, with their articles being available free of charge through their web pages, institutional repositories and/or SciELO, Latindex and RedaALyC. Likewise, most of the journals use Creative Commons licenses and recently the Open Journal System.
