THE EFFORT OF INDONESIAN PUBLIC DIPLOMACY THROUGH
DARMASISWA PROGRAM IN 2018 – 2019
By: Sabda Ardhana
Culture is one of the important elements that Indonesia has in achieving national
interests. As an active country in the international arena, Indonesia seeks to
improve its national identity through the cultural sector. Indonesian traditional and
cultural values are considered to attract foreign visitors to travel and learn about
Indonesian culture. The development of Indonesian culture is strengthened by the
Ministry of Education and Culture. Darmasiswa Republik Indonesia (DRI) is a
one-year non-degree scholarship program by the Government of Indonesia to
foreign students from countries that have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to
study Indonesian language and arts and culture at a number of public/private
universities/training institutions in Indonesia. Darmasiswa was formed as an effort
of public diplomacy to improve relations between Indonesia and friendly
countries and contribute to the establishment of world peace and order. This study
aims to see the efforts of Indonesian public diplomacy in Darmasiswa activities by
using Mark Leonard's three-dimensional concept analysis of public diplomacy.
Keywords: Indonesia, Darmasiswa, Public Diplomacy.
