Este texto se centra en la participación activa de las mujeres en la lucha contra el cambio climá... more Este texto se centra en la participación activa de las mujeres en la lucha contra el cambio climático y su capacidad para liderar proyectos exitosos en medio de la crisis climática. Destaca la importancia de cerrar la brecha de género para construir soluciones equitativas que contribuyan al logro de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS). A pesar de la creciente atención a la perspectiva social en el abordaje del cambio climático, existe una brecha en la adopción de perspectivas interseccionales. La interseccionalidad no solo implica una suma de categorías analíticas, sino una ampliación de perspectivas para comprender factores relevantes en entornos específicos. Estas perspectivas no solo consideran las implicaciones de enfoques útiles, sino también evitan políticas homogéneas, permitiendo planes de cambio climático más flexibles y adaptados a diversas poblaciones y contextos.

This book explores gender inequity and the gender gap from a range of perspectives including hist... more This book explores gender inequity and the gender gap from a range of perspectives including historical, motherhood, professional life and diversity. Using a narrative approach, the book shares diverse experiences and perspectives of the gender gap and the pervasive impact it has. Through authors' in-depth insights and critical analysis, each chapter addresses the gender gap by providing a nuanced understanding of the impact of the particular lens. It shares a holistic understanding of lived experiences of gender inequity.
"Femininity in Dispute: Perspectives of a Comparative Study of Professional Women in Puebla and Barcelona" examines the conflicts around the acceptance/rejection of idealized femininity within the workplace of two groups of professional women in Puebla (Mexico) and Barcelona (Catalonia/Spain). Drawing from a qualitative study based on participant observation and in-depth interviews, the chapter explores the following two concepts: first, how top labor hierarchies are impacted by the portrayal of (hegemonic) femininities/masculinities and secondly, how these women mobilize or reject particular expressions of femininity in order to advance in their professional careers. The focus is not why fewer women get to the top of their profession, but rather how the participants position themselves in relation to the inherently gendered practices and norms in the organizations and the multiple ways in which they contest or adhere to the traditional ideas of femininities in order to legitimize their position as leaders in their professions. Through the use of feminist narrative research, I provide a fine-grained analysis of stories of women who struggle to fit the dominant archetype of authority along with the risk that these women face when they do not comply with this archetype. Attention is given to the problematic dominant view of women transgressing femininity and their accounts of how they manage their position as visibly gendered workers within highly masculine work dynamics. Further, the link from the personal to the sociopolitical aims to improve our understanding of contemporary women’s challenges and responses in the light of renewed gender regimes, power, and ideologies.

RESUMEN: El artículo indaga las diversas formas en que se (re)configuran la percepción y práctica... more RESUMEN: El artículo indaga las diversas formas en que se (re)configuran la percepción y prácticas de roles de género a partir del análisis cualitativo de las relaciones doméstico-familiares de mujeres jóvenes de clase trabaja-dora en la periferia de la ciudad de Puebla (México). A partir del trabajo etnográfico y entrevistas en profundidad observamos cómo la particular estructuración de un grupo doméstico-familiar y la interacción con la comunidad se encuentran construidas alrededor de relaciones sociales marcadas por expectativas de género. Así las adolescentes, construyen un paradójico sentido de agencia individual sobre lo que ellas consideran sus talentos personales al mismo tiempo que desarrollan un fuerte sentimiento de anhelo en formar una pareja y consolidarse en el mercado matrimonial. Nos proponemos ofrecer una perspectiva etnográfica acerca de la constitución de las lógicas socioculturales contemporáneas de las relaciones de género en México y las maneras en que grupos determinados acatan o repelen estas lógicas dentro de su vida cotidiana.
ABSTRACT: This article aims to analyse the different ways in which the perception and practices of gender roles are (re) configured based on the qualitative analysis of the domestic-family relationships of a group of young working-class women in the periphery of the city of Puebla (Mexico). From ethnographic work and in-depth interviews we observed how the particular structuring of a family group as well as the interaction within their community is built around social relationships marked by gender expectations. Thus, adolescents build a paradoxical sense of individual agency on what they consider their best personal assets. At the same time they develop a strong desire of conforming a couple and to consolidate themselves in the marriage market. Our observations offer an ethnographic perspective on the constitution of the contemporary sociocultural logics of gender relations in Mexico and the ways in which determined groups abide or reject these logics within their daily lives.

This paper is focused on understanding the formation of female subjectivity within the transition... more This paper is focused on understanding the formation of female subjectivity within the transition from childhood to adolescence through the interconnection between class and gender. These hierarchically ordered relationships consolidate positions that place the adolescents as receptacles of the social imaginary of contemporary femininity models. Through the analysis of the discussions obtained from a focus group of adolescents from upper middle class households in Puebla City (Mexico), I observe how this transitional stage unveils a social reality full of conditionings and subjectivities, which are both structured and structuring. The range of life experiences narrated by the participants disclose the close tie between class and gender and this gives us the opportunity to recognise how social relationships are established and how the adolescents face them in their everyday life. Further, these relationships are also crucial for understanding aspects on how these social relationships operate as a framework of shared values within a specific social group.

The main purpose of this research is to depict the difficulties that young women may encounter in... more The main purpose of this research is to depict the difficulties that young women may encounter in their attempt to get access to top positions in the labor hierarchy considering not just the organizational aspects but also the informal dynamics associated with cultural representations of gender roles in management positions. A series of deep-interviews with young career women reveal the complexity of the paths that these women have chosen and the concessions they were forced to make, in order to continue with the organizational norms or bypass them. Finally this paper will challenge the contemporary assumptions of the celebratory discourse about " successful women " by illustrating the context of how (mis)conceptions of educational achievement are easily assimilated into individualizing neoliberal discourses of meritocracy and gender equality.

A estas alturas es claro el impacto devastador y generalizado de la pandemia en los medios de sub... more A estas alturas es claro el impacto devastador y generalizado de la pandemia en los medios de subsistencia de las mujeres, quienes son las que más han visto afectada su participación en la fuerza laboral remunerada en México, representando el 84 por ciento de quienes salieron de la fuerza laboral entre marzo y abril del 2020. Podríamos seguir dando giros sobre la serie de cifras que continúan confirmando que muchas de las desigualdades por diferencias de género se han exacerbado a raíz de la pandemia. Pero esta vez me gustaría ahondar un poco más en la lucha continúa entre el hogar, los cuidados y el trabajo remunerado así como ahondar un poco en una serie de factores para una comprensión más profunda del alcance del trabajo de cuidados de las mujeres.

Su movilización no sólo ilustra el potencial transformador de la ira sino cómo está puede abrir caminos hacia la libertad y la reparación. Es sólo reconociendo nuestra rabia como aspecto legítimo de nuestra emancipación qué podemos esperar un cambio transformador genuino.

Según informa el medio británico The Times, en el Reino Unido, la Agencia Reguladora de Medicamen... more Según informa el medio británico The Times, en el Reino Unido, la Agencia Reguladora de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios recibió casi 4.000 informes de cambios en los períodos de las personas después de una vacuna COVID-19 antes del 17 de mayo de 2021. Hasta ahora, no está claro cuáles podrían ser los mecanismos biológicos detrás de estos cambios en la menstruación y quién podría correr más riesgo de experimentarlos y lo que es más importante, aún queda un largo camino para averiguar si existe algún factor asociado con la probabilidad de pasar por un cambio en el ciclo menstrual después de recibir una vacuna COVID-19. Sin embargo, lo que sí queda muy claro es la frecuencia con la que se ignora la salud de las mujeres o cómo son invisibilizadas dentro de la Medicina.

Las mujeres están segregadas en el hogar y en la sociedad como reproductoras de la presente y fut... more Las mujeres están segregadas en el hogar y en la sociedad como reproductoras de la presente y futura generación de trabajadores, ya sea como madres o cuidadoras. Por ello las mujeres que no han elegido la maternidad y además deciden no maternar, son comúnmente estigmatizadas como egoístas, malvadas o deficientes. El actual panorama social impone la visión de que para las mujeres el cuidado de los niños y otros trabajos de crianza son "naturales" y cualquier mujer que desee romper este esquema es vista con sospecha. Dado que la maternidad se da por sentada, ser madre es el único camino viable para la normalidad, respetabilidad, credibilidad y cumplimiento de las expectativas del rol de una mujer adulta en nuestras sociedades.

Este artículo analiza cómo la emergencia sanitaria vulnera aún más los derechos de las mujeres y ofrece una algunos ejemplos de los impactos de género de esta emergencia sanitaria.

The emergence of the so-called new forms of fatherhood is still quite modest in Mexico, and although we can trace a greater participation of men in care and upbringing tasks, this participation is limited in time, form, and content. Care is more than a verb. Caring is an essential part for the world to keep going, and we have to be realistic and acknowledge that men -as collective- lack the understanding of what does it mean to care and, they have less idea of how to organize it.

At this point, I do not know who is surprised by the response of President Andrés Manuel López about the increase of the calls related to violence against women during the confinement due COVID-19. The President throughout his term (and even prior to this) has shown a clear reluctance to address public health issues related to gender violence and what is worse, he keeps insisting on playing down the problem while he continues with his ill-defined policy of "moral renewal". The conference on May 6, where he made a call to keep “cultivating fraternal love within families as the key to reducing violence against women”, showed us -again- his failure to tackle the femicide emergency in Mexico and that his responses to the crisis are more of the same.

A estas alturas no sé quién sorprende la respuesta del presidente Andrés Manuel López sobre el aumento de las llamadas relacionadas con la violencia contra las mujeres durante el encierro. El presidente a lo largo de su mandato (e incluso antes de este) ha mostrado una clara reticencia a abordar los problemas de salud pública relacionados con la violencia de género y, lo que es peor, sigue insistiendo en minimizar el problema mientras continúa con su política "renovación moral ". La conferencia del 6 de mayo, donde llamó a "cultivar el amor fraterno dentro de las familias como la clave para reducir la violencia contra las mujeres", nos muestra, nuevamente, su fracaso para abordar la emergencia de feminicidios en México y que sus respuestas a la crisis son más lo mismo.

Si bien es cierto que hoy en día en muchos países occidentales, se han ido estableciendo condiciones estructurales favorables para que un mayor número de mujeres tengan acceso todos los niveles educativos, ingresen al mercado de trabajo y asciendan en la jerarquía laboral, las relaciones tradicionales de género dentro de las estructuras sociales, especialmente dentro de las relaciones familiares, aún constituyen un serio impedimento para el desarrollo (laboral y personal) de las mujeres.
