decades. The problems are basically rooted in two fundamental aspects covering
the ineffective prevention and the increasing number of victims year by year. The
increasing number of victims is a valid proof that preventive and curative attempts
to fight drugs do not achieve its demanded goals. In terms of preventive action,
for example, the efforts are started from multiple aspects such as education, social
and many other area intended to forcibly stop the flows of drug abusers. In the
other hand, the curative aspect has been done by maximizing law enforcement
which aims at giving a severe punsihment for drug sindicates, sellers and
distributors. However, these two efforts do not work quite effectively as children,
youth and students becomes the inevitable targets of drugs abuse. Thus, better and
more comprehensive actions should be improved and added to endlessly fight
drugs. The researcher formulates one research question; how would local potential
based game be effective to prevent drugs abuse?
This paper is a revolutionary idea aiming at preventing more cases of drug
abuse using game as an approach to inject moral and character building. This
paper uses qualitative method with interview and type data source. The method of
interview is non-structural interview where the selected respondents with
particular understanding are interviewed. The type data sources come from
literature sources such as books, scientific journal, reports, news, articles and
other online sources. In addition, case study is performed in this paper in which
Ngestirejo, Gunungkidul becomes the setting and the place of the study. This
place is choosen because of some important reasons. First and the most important
reason is the high rate of drug and HIV cases. At least, 25 cases of HIV and 5
cases of drug were found in Ngestirejo. These data are obtained from the
interview and observation with some people’s representative of the village.
Second, the education quality of children is categorized low as most of teenagers
were graduated from elementary and junior highschool only. Moreover, with a
very minimum education background, many of them decided to work in big cities
such as Jogjakarta and Jakarta. This factor is believed as one of the influential
triggers of drug abuse since teenagers do not have complete information about the
danger of drug and right decision making in rationalizing and confirming the
impact of drug. Thus, educating them in a different way would be best applied in
that particular condition.
Game is regarded as one of the most effective methods to assisst student in
understanding particular learning material. This paper outlined the effectiveness
of game as a media of teaching and learning namely Tretoda (Treasure to Fight
Drugs). Tretoda is a combination of traditional games and researcher’s selfconstructed
concept which is based on local potentials. The use of game, in this
case, is adjusted with the charactertistics of children who are passionate to do
challenging and fun activities which involve mental and physical activites. This
condition would allow children to indrectly learn from what they do which will

further push indirect intake to children minds. In short, injecting anti-drugs value
can be done more effectively and fun.
