
Professor Betty McDonald, C.M., FHEA, Ph.D, MPhil., MEd., Postgrad. Dip. Ed., BSc.(Hons.).
Professor Betty MCDONALD is primarily responsible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). She heads The Professional Development Unit (PDU) at Teaching, Learning and Instructional Support where she has been facilitating CPD Workshops since 2006 when she was recruited from The University of The Bahamas. She services a walk-in PDU Help Desk that allows faculty one-on-one, face-to-face meetings to address ongoing issues that may arise in their day-to-day interactions with students; Course Outlines, Problem-Based Learning, Service Learning, Flipped Classroom, Blended Learning, Test Construction, Assessment, Marking and Grading, Mathematics Education, Student Evaluation of Teaching, to mention a few.
With over 50 years academic experience in all continents of the world, she has taught at all levels of the education system: early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary. She is officially certified by The Department of Justice & Regulation Victoria, Australia Working With Children Check (Card No. 1426970A-01). At the Planning Division of The Ministry of Education in her home country, Professor McDonald worked as Research Officer on a myriad of research projects focused on national development. She was Chief Evaluator of the IZZAMIX Project, the first of its kind in reaching out to students through activating media with contemporary topics related to the school curriculum. At the then Inner London Education Authority, UK she served as Exchange Teacher collaborating with other teachers from around the globe to address the challenges facing inner city students.
She has to her record over 224 edited publications and presentations, comprising high impact international referred journal articles, local and international seminars and conferences, including over 45 academic books, technical reports and conference proceedings.
Accordingly, she has presented her research findings at national, regional and international conferences where she has served as Keynote Speaker and Session Chair. Professor McDonald continues to use her expertise to advise many doctoral students (locally and internationally) under her supervision.
In addition to being a Fulbright Fellow, Haggai Institute Fellow, Commonwealth Fellow, Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership and Endeavour Executive Awardee, Professor McDonald has received numerous other prestigious awards including outstanding teacher from UNESCO/TTUTA and American Psychological Association.
Her service as Assistant Registrar (Measurement and Evaluation) at The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exposed her to state-of-the art examination practices augmented by her professional affiliation stints at The Examination Testing Services in Princeton, New Jersey, USA and The United Nations in Manhattan, USA. Service as Invigilator/Chief Invigilator for over 11 years at The University of The West Indies (UWI) provided additional exposure to real life situations re examination procedures.
At UTT, she authored The Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Education; Teaching and Learning Policy; segments of the Self Study for Accreditation and Reaccreditation document and has developed and delivered several online courses using the Canvas platform. She has collaborated with several universities for grant funding and co-authoring journal articles.
Her contribution to various UTT committees like Blackboard Implementation Committee; Post Graduate Studies and Research Committee; Appointments and Performance Evaluation Committee; Strategic Planning Committee; Academic Council; Validation Committees; etc. cannot go unmentioned.
