Like a person doesn't feel bad enough not posting fic, it seems the calendar itself is set on making it worse! Everywhere I look, it's the day my phone bill needs to be paid, the day I have a meeting, the expiration date on my milk... 1/12/12, 2/1/12, 2/12/12... Sheesh, Universe, I get it already! But they do say that what you're doing at midnight on New Year's will set the tone for what you'll be doing for the rest of the year, so I made sure I was writing when the calendar rolled over. That'll probably work as well as November magically finishing novellas for me, but a girl can hope, right? (but why don't i post haven in the meantime? because i'd just use it as an excuse not to write long-fic. not like it was left at a cliffhanger or anything.) Tags: antiupdate, gw

In the great battle of turnip vs tomatoes... I fear I am losing ground to the tomatoes daily. These are the tomatoes that are sitting on my countertop. There are still many more tomatoes biding their time on the vine, waiting to strike. On the turnip's summer menu: bruschetta, tomato and zucchini pasta, tomato egg beef rice. Should I acquire employment, I will be putting tomatoes in my lunch sandwiches, and just flat out giving tomatoes away to co-workers. Anyone have any other ways to consume tomatoes? I cook for one person, and I prefer things that can be made from what's in my kitchen rather than having to go out and buy random things. (how would you know what's in my kitchen?) Yes, I know I can make sauce, and maybe I will in the end, but right now, I'm more interested in eating them more in their natural tomatoey splendor and not so much smooshed into an unrecognizable pulp. Obligatory GW tie-in: I may not cook and eat all submitted recipes, but should the Great Mother Turnip decide to grant my Haven boys a bumper crop of tomatoes this summer, your recipe may be featured! Today's fun-fact in lieu of fic: I've just now realized that, to the best of my recollection, I've always written Haven with Heero calling Relena in the evening to chat... except they live on different continents. I've always imagined Haven as being in North America, although I suppose it doesn't have to be, and we know Relena is in Europe. I'm certain there must be at least several hours time zone difference between the two places, if not something like twelve hours. And yet when Relena picks up the phone, it's always the latter half of the evening as well. Oh well. It's certainly not the first time Haven has bent the space-time continuum. I'm sure it won't be the last. ^^' Since we're on the topic of terribly random fic things... what is a two-by-four called in a place that uses the metric system? (this is not a riddle. haven uses the metric system, and one day in their home improvement adventures, they'll probably need to refer to a two-by-four.) Is it still called a two-by-four? It'd probably make just as much sense as calling it a two-by-four to begin with, given that the dimensions of a two-by-four are actually 1.5" x 3.5". Tags: antiupdate, funfact, gw

So apparently it's Teacher Appreciation Week. Go teachers. Why do I know this? Because Lowe's told me so. And why would Lowe's tell me so? Because they suggested I honor my teachers with a Lowe's gift card. Wtf. One of my 8th grade teachers accepted bribes in the form of pictures of Fabio. (and in the pre-internet age, that was easier said than done.) And these days, you're supposed to give your teachers what amounts to cash? I hope that's just Lowe's being weird. Well, now that I've scratched the itch to share that, I have to make this fan-related somehow, so... if you're a teacher out there (no cheating or i'll sic the internet posse on you!), feel free to drop me a comment on something you'd like to see me write, and I'll see what I can do. ^_^v I don't make promises, and I don't guarantee timeliness, but I will take your suggestions under sincere consideration. (provided you don't say something like 1x6 dubcon or something. x_x) Tags: antiupdate, funfact, gw

I choose to boycott Valentine's Day this year, fic-wise, because last year, Valentine's Day caused a ( rift in the space-time continuum.Collapse )Therefore, I shall wield my wiles on the other event of the day this year, Lunar New Year. I did a little digging, found some interesting things, but found nothing quite interesting enough to spark a meaningful fic, so today, you get mere meta-fic, an explanation of what I found that I would have put into a fic, had I written one. Certainly, if anyone else out there would like to make use of this information, they are more than welcome to. So I got to thinking, ( what year of the Chinese zodiac were the boys born in?Collapse )Happy (Lunar) New Year! Tags: antiupdate, funfact, gw

Fun-fact: In Touch the World, that scene starting from when Noin left her room after being busted out by the boys, through the run out of the base and halfway through their escape in that shuttle, was written with pen and paper while sitting in a jury pool waiting room. I may have imagined it, but I think I got strange looks from people. Or at least people were bored enough to wonder what the heck I was scribbling in that little notebook. I write small, and was writing with deliberate near-illegibility so no one would be able to read over my shoulder. This week's fun fact brought to you by the fact that yes, still in the final throes of being busy at work, but also because I've got the next short ready to be written, but I'm on call for jury duty again this week, and if I get called, I want something to do while I'm sitting there waiting for nothing to happen. Okay, here's where I 'fess up and say that I still totally didn't work on any fic. But this is where I also say that we're finally hitting the end of a four year project at work and I've been hitting the OT pretty consistently for the last couple of months and it's pretty much just a matter of rocking the OT for a few more weeks to shake out as many of the wrinkles as we can before the end. Yeah, I can manage to find some odd minutes here and there at work to shake out some fic sometimes, too, and maybe that's where some of the last couple of chapters have come from, but when I get home and I don't have that much time to goof off before going to bed to do it all over again, I'm typically preferring to do things that don't require thought. So for those of you out there that are keeping track of such things, do not be alarmed. I need no pokes asking if I'm going to finish what I started, etc. I'm just not bothering to write un-thought-through crap at the moment. ...Hm. Maybe I should write some one-shot fluff or something. That stuff usually doesn't require any thought. (admittedly, i'm also just stalling, as explained in my previous anti-update. and being distracted by something i need to finish up and return to someone. and being distracted by a personal side project. but hey, at least posting an anti-update maintains a tiny little speck of momentum, right?)
