Thus concludes the Two Degrees holiday collection. Phew, we made it through one more year!
Two Degrees : 12
Duo pushed open the door to the hotel room. The first thing he saw was Heero waiting for him. A lovely first sight, to be sure, especially since Heero was only wearing a towel, but that was an especially odd place to have put a chair, and Heero was definitely not in the habit of putting himself directly in vulnerable sight lines. The wry expression on his face definitely said 'what have you gotten into now?'. And so Duo wasn't particularly alarmed when the door finished opening and revealed a man holding a gun on Heero.
He went ahead and crossed into the room, and set the bag holding their dinner down on the first available surface, before turning back to his unexpected guest. "So. What can I do for you?"
"You have something of my client."
"Pretty sure I don't." Duo leaned casually against the wall.
The man snorted. "You are definitely the thief that stole the Karlson from my client's collection."
"Not denying it. Just saying, the item is no longer in my custody."
The man pressed the muzzle of his weapon to the side of Heero's head. "Where is it?" he growled.
Duo carefully gauged the calm but irritated twist to Heero's lips. "Hey now, no need to start threatening innocent bystanders."
The man made another disdainful noise. "You brought this 'bystander' in when you decided to fuck him. But now's not the time to discuss your shitty life choices. Now, tell me where it is!"
Duo pushed off of the wall with only partially feigned outrage, though he was careful to keep his hands in view. "Hey, I have made plenty of shitty life choices, but this guy is not one of them!"
Heero rolled his eyes.
The man made a vaguely aggressive gesture. "Hey, back off--"
And before he knew it, Heero shifted just enough to take his head out of the line of fire, snatched the gun out of his grasp, surged out of his seat, tripped the guy, and smashed him on the temple with his own gun, all in pretty much one smooth motion.
"Talk about shitty life choices," Duo said, shaking his head. "A shitty life choice is trying to hold a guy hostage, who has like three black belts in bad-ass, second-degree."
Heero nudged the guy with his foot to confirm he was down for the count before looking at Duo with a raised eyebrow. "You didn't tell me you were expecting company."
"I wasn't! I met up with you for some honest-to-goodness R&R! I made delivery on the item days ago, got my money, case closed."
"Hmpf." He put the gun down and turned toward his duffle bag.
Duo brought their dinner to the table, trying to decide what to do with it. "I'm really sorry about that. I'll make it up to you. Though... how did the guy get in?"
"Must have stolen a keycard. I heard it beep while I was in the bathroom, but it didn't sound like you coming in."
"And you decided not to take him out immediately?"
"I didn't know who he was," he answered mildly. "Or what you would want done with him."
"So respectful," Duo sighed contentedly. He sidled up to Heero and kissed him as soon as he'd pulled on a shirt. "How did you take him out without dropping your towel?"
"How could I earn a black belt without knowing basic skills?"
Duo grinned and fingered the top of the towel, still wrapped securely around Heero's waist. "Woulda been more interesting if it'd slipped off..."
Heero put his hand firmly on Duo's, stopping those sneaky fingers from loosening his towel. "Not while there's a body on the floor."
Duo threw the body a scowl. "Oh. That."
"Your body, your play."
"Bleh." Dealing with bodies was really more of Heero's thing, but Heero was right about where responsibility lay on this one. He glared at the unconscious man while considering his options. "Think we can pack it up and get out of here before dinner gets cold?"
"I'm choosing the next hotel."
His nose wrinkled in irritation when he looked up and realized Heero had managed to drop the towel and pull pants on while he was distracted. Black belt, indeed. "Oh, come on, you know this was only gonna be our initial rendezvous. I've got much better than this planned..."
"I'm vetting those plans."
Ah, well, fair. There was a body on the floor, after all. Duo started packing up. The sooner they got out of here, the sooner they could pick up where they left off.
