Esthetic surgeries are among the commonest medical procedures in the world nowadays; and as statistics declare, there has been a rapid increase in the rate of rhinoplasty during the recent years. Hence, as the number of cosmetic surgeries rises, the increment in the number of physicians being sued is quite inevitable; either due to complication in rhinoplasties or even inability to fulfill the patients' expectations. This article aims to clarify the aspects of causes leading to these legal claims.

The preoperative diagnostic evaluation of the parotid lesion is a valuable aid in planning the operation and the approach to intervention. Among different diagnostic tools, Fine Needle a subset of 64 patients who had agreed to undergo preoperative FNAB was selected. The FNAB diagnoses were compared with those of the surgical specimens as the gold standard. Then, sensitivity, specificity, predictive value, and pertinent characteristics of the patients were evaluated. Finally, the results were analyzed with SPSS version14.

Abstract: The common midline neck masses include thyroglossal duct cyst, lipomas, thyroid tumor or cyst and rarely a midline lymph node, particularly the node just above the thyroid isthmus. Thyroid tuberculosis (TTB) is a rare cause of thyroid disease and therefore only occasionally included in the differential diagnosis. In this study we tried to explain the clinical and paraclinical manifestations of TTB with a case series of 26 patients with definite or suspicious diagnosis of TTB.

Abstract: The nodular thyroid diseas is one of the most common disturbances o the thyroid gland wheras malignant tumors are among the most unusual entities of it. Not only differentiation of these two spectra but also the problems to achieve early diagnosis and treatment, have been a matter of concern, research, and controversy.

Background: Thyroid cancer is a rare disease which includes less than 1% percent of all human cancers. The aim of this study is to evaluate the demographic characteristics and risk factors among patients with thyroid malignancy at the Cancer institute and Imam Khomeini hospital in Tehran Iran. Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study of the charts of 320 patients admitted with the diagnosis of thyroid malignancy based on pathologic reports in the above-mentioned hospitals from 1992 to 2002.

One of main characteristic of NHL is extranodal presentation that has different pattern in various part of world. A retrospective was designed in a tertiary referral center. It has been done between January 1996 and March 2006. All clinical and pathological characteristics were evaluated. 129 patients were included in this study, 89 male and 49 female.

Abstract: Intra-operative management of thyroid gland in laryngeal cancer is controversial. To determine the rate of thyroid involvement in patients with laryngeal cancer treated by radical surgical excision, we reviewed the records during 1996-2000 in Imam Khomeini Hospital, Cancer Institute, and Amir Alam Hospital. We studied several factors such as age, gender, and tumor location, presence of thyroid involvement, tumor staging and tumor grading. Thyroid involvement was confirmed by pathologic findings.

Abstract: For many years, it was thought that nasal polyps are small tumors of the nasal or sinus mucosa. However, it is now believed that nasal polyps are formed as a result of frequent local swelling of nasal or sinus mucosa, which enlarge by increasing sub-mucosal edema and then expose to the air pipe and cause some symptoms. However, the main cause of polyp formation is not exactly understood. The prevalence of disease is 1-4% of population.

The relationship between asthma and sinusitis has been proposed in many reports but the role of sinus surgery in their treatment is still controversial. Therefore, the effect of functional sinus surgery in patients with controlled asthma was evaluated.

Background and Objective: Approximately 45% of benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNST) occur in head and neck regions. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are less common and only 815%-of these tumors occur in head and neck region. In this study, we aimed at evaluating the demographic characteristics, pathologic findings, locations, main clinical presentations and family history of these tumors in head and neck regions. Patients and Methods: In a cross sectional and retrospective study, we analyzed head and neck peripheral nerve sheath tumors in patients who referred to Amir-Aalam Hospital affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences for 10 years (1996 to 2005). Results: There were 113 cases with a kind of nerve sheath tumor; the female/male ratio was 1.09. The frequency of schwannoma, neurofibroma and MPNST was 66.37%, 30.1% and 3.53%, respectively including 39 cases of acoustic neuroma, 18 cases of cervical nerve trunk involvement, 12 cases of facial nerve involvement, 11 cases of the 10 th cranial nerve PNST and only one case of cervical sympathetic nerve involvement. Conclusion: Schwannomas are the most common types of PNSTs seen in head and neck regions, and aucoustic neuroma comprises the majority of them. About 25-45% of extracranial schwannomas also occur in head and neck regions that usually present a slow growing of the mass lesion and various mass effects. Although neurofibroma and MPNSTs are less common, they must be kept in mind as differential diagnoses of other benign and malignant lesions in this region.
