Various cross-layer optimization schemes have been proposed for the purpose of enhancing wireless network performances. In this paper, we present an improved autonomous cross-layer optimization to fit modern heterogeneous communication networks. In our design, different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for all sorts of information with various communication protocols are considered when making optimal transmission decisions. The modified framework achieves better system computation efficiency and adapts to various sources of different communication networks quickly while preserves the overall system performance.

Our video begins in the classroom. One student laments to his fellow classmates that his baseball team will be forced to forfeit their next game if they cannot find a field to play on. In response, the other students suggest constructing a baseball diamond of their own. As soon as the first student agrees, they all begin brainstorming ways to go about making a 90ft x 90ft perfect square, the dimensions of a standard MLB baseball diamond. First the students try using a protractor. They soon realize, however, that the scale of their project is too massive to rely on such a small instrument. Next, the students attempt to make a square using GPS technology. This time it is the margins of error on these machines that stymie their pursuit. Finally, one of the class members who has been silent to this point suggests that the answer lies in the 2000 year-old propositions of Euclid. Suddenly, the ancient Greek geometer himself appears in the distance ready to assist our students. This paper provides an overview of the 6LoWPAN standard. 6LoWPAN is an open standard developed by IETF. It is an IPv6 adaptation layer running on top of IEEE 802.15.4 standard. This paper reviews the history that led to the concept of Internet of Things (IoT) and how IoT evolved from simple, non-IP networks to 6LoWPAN based IP networks. In this paper, we argue why 6LoWPAN is an important building block for the future of IoT. We also describe the challenges and most important features of 6LoWPAN, including two application protocol standards CoAP and MQTT-SN that are used in 6LoWPAN. We also list some of the popular implementations of 6LoWPAN, including some Thread products based on 6LoWPAN.
