Try a Sketch on Tuesday Challenge #689

https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/2026/02/Challenge-689.html

Hello! I hope everyone had a fun Valentine’s Day. We went to visit our daughter, who lives about 2.5 hours away. It was a rainy day, but we made the best of it and even saw some other friends who live nearby while we were there.

Are you ready for the next card making challenge? It’s a colorful one! Thing 1’s 3-2-1 recipe calls for 3 colors on the wheel, 2 patterned papers, and 1 dry or heat embossed element. Thing 3’s optional twist is to include a favorite snack food, and Thing 2’s Double Dare is to use the TSOT sketch #689, shown here.

I don’t have a large selection of food themed craft supplies, but one food that I do happen to love and makes several appearances in my stash is CAKE! I wanted to use some bright colors for this challenge and ended up with yellow, pink, blue and a little green. I selected the patterned papers, one with balloons and the other tone on tone polka dots in blue. I used a geometric background die that allows one to mix and match the pieces into a frame. I actually cut out several frames and pieces using a few different papers and ended up making 5 cards total, which was great!

I used the Cake Walk stencil/die/stamp set by Taylored Expressions to create some cake elements. For my featured card, as the backdrop for the piece of cake, I used a Scrapbook.com nested round balloon die set. I cut a balloon out of yellow card stock and then heat embossed the whole thing with holographic embossing powder. The set comes with dies to add the “shine” to the balloons, so I used some holographic cark stock for that. I added 2 more layers to the card by mounting the geometric die pieces onto a black layer of scalloped cardstock, and then another piece of holographic card stock. The “Yay” sentiment is from a Spellbinders set, and it is also heat embossed. So, here is how it all came together.

Here is one of the alternate cards I made while playing around with the same supplies, that also meets the elements of the challenge.

Since these are both birthday cards, I’m also entering them into the Seize the Birthday challenge (Anything Goes), which is found at this link:

We look forward to seeing your Scrapper’s Guacamole creations! You can even enjoy your favorite snack food WHILE you are making your card.

Double Trouble Challenge #209 “The Mail Must Go On”

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2026/02/Challenge-209.html

https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/2026/02/Challenge-688.html

Hello again! Welcome to Double Trouble Challenge #209, The Mail Must Go On. There is a 3-2-1 recipe to follow for Thing 1, which is: 3 layers (including the card base), 2 images (excluding sentiment) and 1 Clean and Simple technique. Thing 3’s optional twist is for the CAS space to be a color other than white, and Thing 2’s element, if you care to take on the double dare, is to follow the Try a Sketch on Tuesday sketch, as seen here:

We were having a snow day when I worked on this challenge and so I decided to make 2 cards. One follows all 3 of the Things, and the other uses white space for the CAS technique…although it is holographic paper so not your everyday “white” background.

Here is the first card, using supplies out of my stash (a generic stamp set) and some animal print paper, on a black card base. As you can see the CAS area is a tan/brown color. This card meets all elements suggested by Things 1, 2 and 3.

The second card included something new I had not ever tried before. I stamped and heat embossed the iguana image on holographic paper. Then I used markers to color it in, and I really love how it turned out–it has the appearance of stained glass! The stamp and sentiment are from the Chameleon Friends set by Technique Tuesday. The second image is a die cut palm leaf (die by Hero Arts) in metallic green. The extra layer between the purple cardstock and the holographic paper is also by Hero Arts, it’s a thin, self-adhesive paper that has a jungle print on it. This card meets all challenge elements other than the optional twist, so I thought I would add it into the post for fun.

Thanks for stopping by, and we hope you will play along with us at Double Trouble and Try a Sketch on Tuesday!

Double Trouble #208 “Waddle We Do Next?”

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2026/01/Challenge-208.html

https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/2026/01/Challenge-687.html

Welcome back to the next Double Trouble Challenge, partnered with Try a Sketch on Tuesday Challenge #687. The Things have been at it again and come up with a new 3-2-1 recipe…3 colors, 2 images, 1 sentiment. Thing 3’s optional twist is to include a penquin, while Thing 2’s double dare is to follow the TSOT sketch #687. The sketch is essentially any scenic background you create to showcase your penguins which makes it really easy to fulfill that component!

I was in the middle of a craft room renovation as this challenge was approaching so I had to think fast. I found a pretty patterned paper that has great colors for a winter sky. Then to make my scene, I stamped and embossed the snowflakes onto it with white ink/embossing powder. Then I stamped the trees with black ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. To make the snowy ground, I used Frostbite astro paste applied with my finger and topped with sparkly glitter, and did white splatter on the whole thing. When it all dried, I used the Gina K Master Layouts 1 dies to cut out the scene and a black border, attached to card base. The penguins and sentiment were stamped, cut and colored with markers, added to the scene. When it was completed, I realized it is a Simon Hurley inspired creation because the astro paste, stamps (the penguins, tree stamp and sentiment) and coordinating dies are all Simon Hurley supplies. And of course, the added inspiration from the Things!!

They’re just hanging out together and walking in a winter wonderland! We hope you will have some fun making a card and joining us in the challenge.

Double Trouble Challenge #207 “Cool, Wild and/or Crazy”

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2026/01/Challenge-207.html

Happy New Year, and welcome to the Double Trouble Challenge! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas full of blessings. Are you ready for some more 3-2-1 recipe challenges with a twist and a double dare? Remember…only the 3-2-1 recipe components are required to enter the challenge. The twists and double dares are optional!

Thing 1’s first 3-2-1 recipe for 2026 is: 3 colors, 2 shapes, 1 sentiment. You can use more of any ingredient but be sure to not use less than what the recipe calls for. Thing 3’s optional twist is to use 2 squares, and Thing 2’s Double Dare is to follow the sketch from the TSOT sketch, shown here.

To get my two shapes (squares, for the optional twist), I decided to use the Waffle Flower postage collage set, specifically the snowman stencils. By using blue, purple, white, orange and black (oxide inks) I have more than 3 colors. The sentiment is from a Simon Hurley stamp set, “skating by”. I embossed the background with a Spellbinders 3D embossing folder and did a little ink blending with broken china and peacock feathers oxide inks. I found some felt doilies by Brutus Monroe in my stash that I have never used. I cut a white one in half and was pleasantly surprised to see that with the rest of the card elements, it resembles a snowflake.

I decided I might as well make a second card with the remaining bits, since I had half a doily and some more snowmen sitting there on my desk. I also had made an alternate background with the same embossing folder out of silver foil paper when designing the first card. So just for fun, here is how the sister card turned out.

Thank you for stopping by TuffAzNailz! I hope you will join us for the first Double Trouble challenge of the year and many more to come.

Double Trouble Challenge #206 “Wrap It Up”

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2025/11/Challenge-206.html

Wow, it’s hard to believe that this will be the last Double Trouble Challenge for 2025. How fitting that it is named “Wrap it Up”! It is an Anything Goes challenge, the 3-2-1 recipe calls for 3 somethings from your stash, 2 anythings from your stash, and 1 of everything else from your stash. The optional twist from Thing 3 is to use ribbon, twine or cord–for wrapping it up of course! Thing 2’s double dare is to follow the TSOT Sketch #685, which looks like this:

My card has a couple of sets of 3 ingredients…3 cardstocks/papers, 3 buttons, and 3 ink colors: Lumberjack Plaid Distress Ink, Evening Evergreen Stampin’ Up classic ink, and Hero Arts Unicorn white ink. It has 2 squares on it, since I conveniently followed the TSOT sketch. And it uses 1 ephemera tree which I fussy cut out from a Simple Stories 6×8 paper pad called Simple Vintage ‘Tis the Season, one small sentiment at the bottom, one stencil and one embossing folder.

The pattern in the bottom left corner was stenciled with the evergreen ink and a Hero Arts stencil. Lumberjack Plaid ink was blended lightly around the edges of the background paper. By the way, that musical paper used as the background layer came from the same paper pad mentioned above. The red square was embossed in a Spellbinders embossing folder, and then I used the white ink to emphasize the pattern. For my optional twist to wrap it up, I stitched with floss/cord around the edges of the squares, giving it a quilt or swatch like appearance. I have never used a sheet music background before, it looked like it needed a little something when all I had were the 2 squares…so then I added the stencil and the buttons. It is also spritzed with shimmer spray, but unfortunately that detail doesn’t show up well in the photo.

I hope everyone who sees this post has a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year! The Double Trouble team looks forward to making more cards with you in 2026!

Double Trouble Challenge #205 “Tie One On Day”

https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/2025/11/Challenge-684.html

Hi everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving! Welcome to the Double Trouble Challenge blog with another fun project challenge. Thing 1 has a 3-2-1 recipe to follow: 3 colors, 2 layers and 1 image. Thing 3’s optional twist is to use ribbon, twine or cord. And finally Thing 2’s double dare is to utilize the Try a Sketch on Tuesday sketch for the layout of your project or card, which looks like this:

I’m still using a Christmas theme so I can hopefully end up with enough cards to send to family and friends next month. Someday I hope to have a larger supply of cards built up so that I can make what I’m in the mood for instead of what the calendar is calling for. 🙂

My supplies for this card were some patterned papers by Echo Park (the 3 in the center) and some stamps and dies from a couple of 2024 Hero Arts card kits (the tree, notched panels, snowflakes and sentiment). The weathered wood paper used for the background came from a Recollections paper pack. The tree is stamped onto the patterned paper with white ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. Last but not least, I used some silver metallic cord to wrap it up. I like that it has a rustic and retro vibe to it.

Thank you for hopping onto TuffAzNailz. We hope you get inspired and want to “Tie One On” with us at the Double Trouble Challenge!

Double Trouble Challenge #204, It’s a Tall Order

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2025/11/Challenge-204.html

https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/2025/11/Challenge-683.html

Hello and Happy Fall! It’s time for the next Double Trouble card making challenge, It’s a Tall Order. The 3-2-1 recipe used for this challenge (Thing 1’s requirements) is 3 colors, 2 images, and 1 slim line card (regular or mini). Thing 3’s optional Twist is to include something that starts with the letter “T”. And Thing 2’s double dare is to follow the sketch for the TSOT challenge #683, which looks like this:

My card has 4 colors (green, red, white and craft). The 2 images are the stenciled and die cut Tree and the die cut star. My card is the mini slimline size. It’s obvious what my “T” item is, and I was also able to incorporate the sketch.

I made the tree by using supplies (stamp and die) from the Jolly Holiday event kit put out last year by Scrapbook and Cards Today. I stamped the image (clear) then heat embossed with white powder on white cardstock. I blended Distress Oxide inks in bundled sage, mowed lawn and rustic wilderness, and created a shading gradient as seen in the sketch on the tree image, instead of on the background. The star is cut out of gold glitter paper with a die from the same set.

I used white ink on craft cardstock and a Hero Arts background stamp with the holiday collage of words and added a strip of red plaid patterned paper to put behind the tree. The little peppermint candy embellishments are also by Hero Arts. The Merry Christmas Wishes sentiment stamp and die are from Spellbinders.

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you saw something that inspires you to join in the Double Trouble challenge!

Double Trouble Challenge #203 Round & Round

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2025/10/Challenge-203.html

Welcome to the next challenge brought to us by the mischievous Things at Double Trouble…Round & Round. A summary of the requirements for this challenge is listed here.

Thing 1’s recipe calls for 3 circles, 2 images and 1 ribbon/twine/cord. Thing 3’s optional twist is to include a bird, and Thing 2’s double dare is to follow the TSOT #682 sketch and enter it into that challenge. Here is the sketch.

I need to make all the Christmas cards I can in the next couple of months, so I went with some round penguin stamps I have in my stash (Creative Expressions “Penguin Baubles”). What luck that they also checked off the optional bird requirement! I stamped and colored them, then cut them out using a stitched circle die. For the background panel I started with navy cardstock, then added snowflakes using picket fence distress ink with a Pink and Main stencil. Next I added some white spatter and the ribbon to match the sketch. The sentiment stamp and die are from Spellbinders. The tiny, stamped snowflakes are also from Pink and Main (stamps with dies). Who could resist a flock of penguins bearing gifts and singing Christmas carols? 🙂

Thank you for stopping by and we hope you will join in the fun by entering our challenge!

Double Trouble Challenge #202 Shades of Fall

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2025/10/Challenge-202.html

Hello, and welcome to the next Double Trouble Challenge, Shades of Fall. The recipe elements for this challenge are 3 colors (fall colors), 2 images, and 1 stenciled or dry embossed element. Thing 3’s optional element is to include an autumn fruit or veggie. And Thing 2’s Double Dare is to follow the Try a Sketch on Tuesday sketch #681, or Pearly Sparkles Challenge #112 by using pumpkins and/or fall leaves. Here are the links to those challenges:

https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/2025/10/Challenge-681.html

https://pearlysparkleschallenge.blogspot.com/

I started by blending some oxide inks onto a card panel and embossing with the Spellbinders folder “Autumn Breeze”. The ink colors I used were fossilized amber, festive berries, rusty hinge and unchartered mariner. Then I highlighted the raised embossed image with a brayer and an alternating color ink. I wish I had taken a photo of the panel before adding to the card…it was pretty neat all on its own! The images on my card are from the Lawn Fawn set Fall Mice. It has a matching stencil for coloring, so they were also colored with oxide inks and then cut out with the coordinating dies. I used 3 sizes of my ragged edge rectangle dies to cut the embossed panel, the panel the images are mounted on, and then an orange/bronze glitter panel for accent. In order to get the look of the sketch, I added some fall leaves. I used leftover ink on my brushes from the first panel so they would be softer and lighter, and Lawn Fawn leaf dies. It was all mounted onto an aqua blue panel and a craft card base.

We hope you are enjoying fall so far and will get into the fall spirit by participating in these challenges!

Double Trouble Challenge #201 SomeThing, AnyThing, EveryThing and SAS4Kids Challenge Halloween Card for Kids

https://doubletroublechallenge.blogspot.com/2025/09/Challenge-201.html

https://sendasmile4kidschallenge.blogspot.com/

We welcome you to Double Trouble, and this time EVERYONE should join in because the recipe is one that is easy to follow: 3 of something in your stash, 2 of anything from your stash and 1 of everything else from your stash! That comes from Thing 1…while Thing 2 and Thing 3 agreed for this challenge that extra chances in the drawing can be earned by following the TSOT sketch.

I have been busy making Halloween cards, and this challenge was an excellent opportunity to share one of them (maybe even two!). I was also inspired by the Send a Smile 4 Kids (SAS4Kids) current challenge, Fall/Halloween card for kids.

This card uses several die cuts, several oxide inks on the background, a stencil and a sentiment. The background was one that I made quite a while ago, by smooshing leftover distress oxide inks off my glass matt. I used Scorched Timber distress ink and a tree stencil (brand unknown) to add the trees. These adorable ghost dies are by Brass & Bliss, stamped on white paper with gold foil paper inserted behind their eyes and mouths. The Happy Halloween sentiment stamp with coordinating die is from Spellbinders. After I had everything put together, I added a little white ink splatter.

Just for fun, here is another Halloween card using more of the ghosts. So you could say this one follows the recipe by using several dies, several patterned papers, and a sentiment. Three of the 4 patterned papers are from a Unity pack. The other one (the green with haunted houses) is from a Stampin’ Up pack. This time I highlighted each ghost with a different color (gray, green and orange) with a little ink blending and then the paper inserted behind the eyes and mouths. The “boo” dies with coordinating stamps are by Honey Bee.

Thank you very much for stopping by, and we hope you will play along with us and share your wonderful creations!
