Human beings, on individual or group basis often experience conflict. Conflict exists within individuals, between one person and another person, between one group and another group. In Nigeria, we often read about the political conflicts that occurred in the 60s leading to the collapse of the first republic, the census crisis of still of the 60s, the Nigerian civil war of 1967, the Ife-Modekeke conflict, Tiv/Jukun crisis of the 1990s and 2001, the Jukun/Kuteb conflict of 1990s, the Plateau crisis between Hausa settlers and indigenes in 2010, and many others. These conflicts, are inclined to ethnicity, religion, militancy, terrorism, youth restiveness, electoral violence (www.ajol.info). The implication is that as human beings and more especially, as Nigerians, we have no choice than to live with conflict. Conflict exists in all societies. The most disturbing conflict however, is the one that is violent. This kind of conflict does not only result in destruction of lives and property, but it also impedes societal peace, unity and development (Ajala, 2001). A society that is bedeviled by violent conflicts, Chiakaan and Tsegyu (2008) have observed, can never grow and develop. Chiakaan and Tsegyu have noted further that in a rancorous atmosphere, no business, can be effectively carried out as schools will be closed down, market and business environments will be unsafe, lives and property will be lost, psychologically, people will not be secured. It is because of its negative consequences that conflict management is what no reasonable society plays with. While conflict has many drawbacks associated with it, it is argued by some scholars that conflict brings about positive changes that can attract societal development. (Tella, Apara, Aliyu and Dawood, 2010). This good side of conflict can only be possible, however, in a situation where there is an effective machinery of managing the conflict when it occurs. Since its creation on 1 st October, 1996, Nasarawa State has witnessed many violent conflicts. Among such violent crisis was the one of 2001 between the Tiv and Alago ethnic groups in the Southern-Zone. The 2001 crisis occurred during the governorship period of Senator Abdullahi Adamu. Between 2013-2015, during the leadership of Governor Aliyu Akwe

The aim of the study is to appraise the role of citizens Journalism in democracy and good governance with a special focus on EndSars protest in Nigeria. Anchored on the democratic participant media theory which is concerned about individual citizen's right to access to the media. The study, incline to the quantitative approach, adopts the survey design method with data were collected through the instrument of a questionnaire which was administered on 150 respondents in Nigeria using simple random sampling method. Findings from the study reveals that citizens journalism contributed to the success of the EndSars protest in Nigeria through different ways such as constant posting of information about the protest, creating awareness about the protest, setting agenda for public discussion in the media and telling Nigerians how the government and the police have failed. Findings further reveals that through sharing of pictures and video clips of victims of police brutality, exposing atrocities committed by members of the Sars group, encouraging Nigerians on the need for police reform and encouraging Nigerians on the need to EndSars and police brutality made many citizens all over the country to join the protest. The study concludes that Citizen Journalism has become an essential part of modern-day society because it has given voice to the voiceless especially in a diversified society like Nigeria. It therefore, recommends the convention media to encourage and train the citizen journalists who can be an asset to them.

1949 and ruled for seventy years before losing power in 2000 while the
Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria was formed in 1998, rose
to power in 1999 and ruled for sixteen years before losing power in
2015. The PDP had earlier boasted of ruling for sixty years but fell out
of power in 2015. This investigation attempts to establish the resilience
and fall of the two large parties that ruled populous countries in the
developing world. On the strength of documentary evidence, it is found
that both parties had ruled virtually unchallenged, aided by election
trickery and ‘dirty’ deals with potential trouble makers and opposition
elements and in the failure of this, suppression. These tendencies
undermined institutions and good governance. Political reforms are
indisputably harmful to authoritarian political parties as the openings
are seized by citizens to punish ruling parties for their mis-governance
in the past through democratic accountability that elections guarantee.
Institutional strengthening is, therefore, critical to sustainable
democratic rule that delivers governance outcomes that meet citizens’
aspirations.

The study adopted the qualitative research approach in obtaining opinions from respondents. Convenience sampling method was adopted to determine the size of the study population. Data were collected qualitatively from four sampled newspapers, Leadership, Daily Trust, Vanguard, and Guardian newspapers. Content analysis was used in the data analysis of the study. Findings from the study revealed that most Nigerian newspapers seldom report rape cases. Leadership and Daily Trust newspapers, however, topped the list of Nigerian newspapers in the reportage of rape cases. Findings of the study further revealed that Nigerian newspapers report cases of rape in straight news form, while most cases of rape as reported by the Nigerian newspapers have their origin or source from the relations of victims which include victims parents, aunts, uncles, etc. The study also found that in most of the cases of rape the innocence frame is the most predominantly used form of reportage of rape cases in Nigeria as the rape victims are portrayed as innocent of the crime committed against them. The study therefore, concluded that cases bordering on rape are reported by Nigerian newspapers but the degree of coverage by the four selected Nigerian newspapers is minimal. Based on the findings, the study recommended that newspapers should improve on their source selection to ensure that official sources are well represented on matters regarding rape cases to draw the attention of the authorities to the matter.

It is no longer news that conflict thwarts socioeconomic development. It has been documented that whenever there is conflict, developmental processes are crippled either directly or indirectly. Mass media whose roles is to educate, entertain and enlighten the people on developmental issues plays a vital role in information dissemination regarding issues, events and happenings around the environment, even in conflict situation, which triggers human interest and stimulates curiosity especial among the people affected. Disseminating such information, in this regards, requires a high sense of professionalism in other not to misinform the public which may lead to fuelling and escalating more conflict rather than mitigating it. The present paper, therefore, calls for professionalism in reporting conflict and conflict related issues by media practitioner across Africa. The paper qualitatively collected data mainly from secondary sources such as textbooks, journals, newspapers, magazines, internet and other relevant documents. Anchored on the social responsibility theory to provide support for the study in explaining the needs for the media to set agenda on developmental issues and be objective, balanced, unbiased and credible in reporting conflict and conflict related issues. Conclusively, the paper calls for professionalism among media practitioners in their conflict related reportage. The paper, therefore, recommends that there is need for trained and professional journalists in reporting conflict related issues. This will, in turn, help in achieving the goal nine (9) of the AU Agenda 2063 which is targeted at "Silencing the gun by 2020" to end all wars, conflict and gender-based violence, prevent genocide and achieve desired sustainable development across Africa.

It is a management approach towards building and sustaining a cordial and harmonious coexistence between an organization and its environment. Organizations including tertiary institutions conscious of corporate social responsibility, find themselves not only ensuring that the welfare of their internal publics is not only taken care of, but they ensure that they give back to their communities what they have taken from them. This study is, therefore, carried out to determine whether tertiary institutions in Nigeria, especially the ones in Taraba State recognize and apply corporate social responsibility in relating with their environments. Anchored on the stakeholder theory, the study adopted survey as its design with data quantitatively collected through the instrument of questionnaire. The collected data were analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Findings revealed that even though the university under study recognizes corporate social responsibility as a public relations tool of achieving harmony with its environment, it does not apply it effectively. Findings further showed that inability of the university to be effective in the application of corporate social responsibility is not unconnected with lack of adequate financial sponsorship by the government. This situation leaves the university in a very pathetic situation as often the university operates without electricity and other social amenities, staff are often denied their benefits with constant strikes which have become the order of the day. The study, therefore, recommends, among many others, that government of Taraba State and Nigeria as a whole should take education more serious by allocating substantial part of their budgets to education.
