AO3 averages meme

Last seen at [personal profile] shadaras's, [personal profile] sanguinity's and [personal profile] muccamukk's: I've enjoyed seeing this around, so here's mine.

I'm not counting works that are unrevealed or still anonymous, because that way I'm looking at exactly 200 works!

Average word count: 3,449.6 (mean) or 1,941 (median)
Average hit count: 1,379.9 (mean) or 921.5 (median)
Average kudos count: 109.5 (mean) or 75 (median)
Average number of comment threads: 6.5 (mean) or 4 (median)
Average number of bookmarks: 20.6 (mean) or 10 (median) - public bookmarks: 6 (median)

(I know no easy way to get the total number of public bookmarks, so I left that out.)

Work(s) closest to the average word count:

Mean: one original f/f (3,350 words), and one rare-these-days het pairing (3,549 words). In some ways the original work is probably closer to my usual fare, but even so, less than 12% of my works are labelled f/f. On the other hand, while it's a rarepair and my only fic in this fandom, the second one is pretty much my typical close-to-canon slots-neatly-in kind of writing.

The Castle of Spun Bridges (Original fantasy f/f) [M]
Set Us Free (The Pretender: Miss Parker/Jarod) [Teen]

Median: one original f/f again (1,936 words), and one Doctor/Jack fic (1,946 words). Since Doctor Who/Torchwood is about 44% of my total output and Doctor/Jack-related stuff about 86% of that, I feel it's fairly representative! *g*

Queen's Blade (Original fantasy f/f) [Teen]
Cold Poison (Doctor Who: Ten/Jack) [M]

Work(s) closest to the average hit count:

Mean: a Xena hetfic (1,387 hits)! Given that I really only wrote (well, finished) two Xena fics, and het (like femslash) is only about 12% of my output ... not at all representative. (The dynamic is fairly typical for my enemy ships, but, well, they all are. *g*)

Unchained (Xena: Xena/Ares) [Teen]

Median: Doctor Who, twice (914 and 929 hits)! Doctor/Jack, even! Very typical, see above.

Shall Reap the Whirlwind (Doctor Who: Ten & Jack) [Teen]
A Time For Lasts (Doctor Who: Ten/Jack) [Teen]

Work(s) closest to the average kudos count:

Mean: oh look, it's two Doctor/Jack works again (108 and 109 kudos)!

Stretch and Strain (Doctor Who: Ten/Jack) [Teen]
Under the Skin (Doctor Who/Torchwood: Twelve/Jack) [Teen]

Median: I have five works at 75 kudos - one Guardian double drabble, one Guardian drabble, one original f/f, and two Doctor Who fics:

Rascals (Guardian: Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan) [Teen]
Within Reach (Guardian: Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan) [Teen]
Queen's Blade (Original fantasy f/f) [Teen]
The Lethe Gate (Doctor Who: Ten/Jack) [Teen]
A Time For Lasts (Doctor Who: Ten/Jack) [Teen]

Work(s) closest to the average number of comment threads:

Not going to list these, because there are 21 works with 6 or 7 comment threads, and another 21 with four.

Work(s) closest to the average number of bookmarks:

Mean: oh look, gasp, shock, it's three Doctor/Jack fics at 21 bookmarks:

Lifeline (Doctor Who: Ten/Jack) [Teen]
Get Off (Doctor Who: Eleven/Jack) [M]
Volcano Day (Doctor Who: Nine/Jack) [Teen]

Median: four works at 10 bookmarks - one Guardian, one het rarepair, two Doctor Who:

Benefits (Doctor Who, Ten/Jack) [M]
Archimedean Point (Doctor Who, Nine & Jack) [G]
Red Queen's Race (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Ana/Will) [Teen]
In This Fading Hour (Guardian: Shen Wei & Ye Zun, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan) [T]

And for 6 public bookmarks, I have five works - Benefits and Red Queen's Race from above, plus one more Doctor Who fic, one m/m rarepair and one f/f rarepair:

Terrible (Doctor Who: Ten/Jack) [M]
More Real Than Life (Neverwhere: Marquis de Carabas/Richard Mayhew) [T]
Zone F: Fandom Primer (She-Ra: Princess of Power: Adora/Catra) [Teen]

It's not really surprising that a lot of my "average" works are Doctor Who, or more precisely Doctor/Jack because that fandom and that ship defines the average by being the majority of my works. *g* (I have 87 fics tagged Doctor Who, and the next-largest, Guardian, only has 26 so far.)

Still, at first I was a bit surprised that my newer main fandoms are so underrepresented in this list. But thinking about it, Doctor Who being an old fandom and many of these works being originally or additionally posted somewhere else, even if all else were equal Guardian and Grimm both would still end up having generally "above-average" stats ...
