Sometimes this place is like living at the freakin' zoo. In addition to the twin fawns hanging out in the back yard, there was a snowy egret on the fence this morning. There's no open water anywhere right around here, but there is a large pond 1/2 mile or so through the fields. Maybe he was taking a break.
Then this evening, I glanced out the window and saw four adult wild turkeys strolling through the yard. They had at least ten chicks with them. I ran, er...hobbled as fast as I could for the camera, but naturally by the time I got to the door, they had all vanished into the woods behind the house. I would have liked to have gotten a pic. I hear them every so often and I've seen them before, but never so many at one time.
Then I decided to take the RTV down to the barn since it was time to feed anyway. One of the adults had apparently gone into my #1 field, so s/he flew directly across my path and I got an up close and personal look at him/her. I don't care what Ben Franklin thought, they are nowhere near as attractive as eagles, but they can sure fly like 'em.
