Paul Rodgers has a new solo album out called “Midnight Rose”. First in quite some time. And the 1977 Black Oak Arkansas album “Race With The Devil” has been rereleased on Vinyl.

Babymetal has yet another cover story coming up in November in Japan, as Young Guitar has decided to highlight them yet again (by the looks of it due to Tom Morello collaborating with them recently and the ongoing world tour). Nice.

WWII Movies

I tend to spend very little time watching DVDs in the summer, but the time has come to add some stuff to the old collection. Got these in the mail the other day, most of them cheap. What they have in common is that they are all set in WWII. Watched “Hamsun” with Max Von Sydow portraying the famous Norwegian author yesterday, and it was very good. The Italian movie “Eagles Over London” (a Tarantino favourite) was OK but a bit on the cheesy side. “633 Squadron” I have seen before, but the last time I owned a copy it was on video tape. The oldest film here is “Five Graves To Cairo”, which was shot in 1943. I expect some of these films to be better than others. Still want to see them though.

Dino Jelusick is releasing the first album under the Jelusick banner today. Titled “Follow The Blind Man” it will finally highlight him as a solo artist. In a recent interview in Sweden Rock Magazine by writer Erik Thompson he reveals that he will go out on the road with other Whitesnake musicians performing Whitesnake songs with the blessing of David Coverdale. Expect more details on this as this project is unveiled. Also, and this is good news, we will have a final solo album from Bernie Marsden titled “Working Man” on November 24. Marsden put the finishing touches to this release just prior to his death a few weeks ago. I expect this to be his best selling album in decades. I feel that there has been a new interest in his catalogue in recent years and his book “Where´s My Guitar?” that was published in 2019, certainly helped to raise his profile again. Bernie actually travelled across the UK and handed out pre-ordered copies to fans himself. I think that says something about who he was.

Sighting The Intruder

Excellent puzzle with painting by Frank C. McCarthy catched my eye. Titled “Sighting The Intruder” it is one in a series of four called Legends Of The West from manufacturer Falcon. There are two more by McCarthy and an additional one by Tom Lovell. 1,000 pieces.

(Box art by Frank C. McCarthy, thank you for securing this for me Maria)

Classic Japanese rockers Murasaki and Bow Wow will visit Sweden next year, as they will both perform at the Time To Rock Festival in July. The news was released today. Friends of the Deep Purple Family have reason to check them out. Murasaki was heavily influenced by Deep Purple in the early/mid 1970s and Neil Murray was a part of Bow Wow for a while in the late 1980s. I presented an extensive interview with George Murasaki on December 3 2021 on this blog. Check it out.

1968

Book turned musical back in 1968, “How To Steal An Election – A Dirty Politics Musical” (RCA/Victor). Nice to have a Soundtrack recording of it. Just stumbled across it a while back.

Added copies of UK Metal Hammer (379) to the old collection today. It sports Babymetal on the cover, an eight page article inside plus two large posters (you can see one here, I will frame the other). Metal Hammer editor Eleanor Goodman has written the piece, which covers everything from the introduction of Momometal into the group, the Metalverse side show, and the new song and video “Metali!”. It seems to me that Babymetal is now gaining a great deal of goodwill again, more fans are coming in fast. Everything is as it should be then. The Fox God is hard at work.

Frank Bellamy

Republishing hard to get comics from the past is a heartwarming business. It allows later generations to enjoy material that would otherwise be largely forgotten. These titles then, both created by Frank Bellamy in the 1950s, deserves to survive. “King Arthur And His Knights” and “Robin Hood” (Book Palace Books, 2008) were both originally published in Swift and you get the full story by the excellent Steve Holland here whom has written in quite some detail about the background to these comics within these pages. This was the era of Errol Flynn and big Hollywood productions with this kind of stuff, it was only natural then to publish comics in the same vein. Classic stuff.

(My shots of said books and some of the art inside by Bellamy)

After a long wait the “Breakfast At Tiffany´s” Soundtrack (White Vinyl) arrived. Very nice shot of Audrey Hepburn on the cover. Nice.

(My shot of said LP, the DVD of the film added for effect)
