LJ mmm
Just read the post on the possible "limited" future of LJ ... Might mean I have to bite the bullet and go "Facebook" ... Guess that means that Goth web resources will get more used in future by promoters and mere mortals ... Fingers crossed this little piece of communication stays afloat or someone buys it for a fiddy pee!!!! |

flop! happy new wotsit
Now I was going to post at end of last year and then I fortgot me password arrghh! So 08 it came it now gone, what did I do, not a lot it seems, I did get to 2 Whitby's I did get to Scotland, I didn't have my June holiday as I decided to suffer the plague that weekend I was due to travel down to London ... I did get to see the Alarm twice and a few gigs at the end of the year namely Amanda Palmer, The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers and a couple of others But really 08 was dominated by work as from May the team had people off on long term sick so at one point there were 3 of us as opposed to the should be 10! We still have 2 off on long term sick but with new recruits things look better (hopefully) - I walked lots and managed to do my 4 miles on average every day the longest was 14 miles twice the shortest was under 2 miles on the most foul weathered day whilst attending a friends wedding near Robin Hoods Bay ... - I spent too much time building UK Goth List there has been lots of work on that in the last 6 weeks and a new look to some section and others to be adapted - go have a look at the "best" and most up to date Goth and Alternative club listing currently on line (84 and rising!) So what to 09 - hoping for a quieter working year for one. Aim to keep the walking going, going to try to be more sociable and see people (08 was not really good for that) - aiming to organise a couple of "Goth Mobs" aka picnic meet up type things with added stuff! First trip of year planned is the Alarm Gathering in Wales at the end of this month. Tickets for Killers at Arena are lurking in the house for March. Whitby for October is booked up with cottage deposit paid for the same place as last time. April Whitby not sure on. We have 2 wedding invites so far for the year. So I hope everyone has shaken free of 08 - for some it was a crap year, for some a year of change, some a busy year and some a good year ... heres 09 brings to you whatever you wnt / need it to be .. |

Yep 21 years ago to the day I was at this moment in time wandering around London collectors record shops buying rare vinyl for a silly amount of dosh ..... Today marks the date of my first seeing The alarm play at the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town (now the Forum) 21 years ago time flies or something like that, thousands of miles later, hundreds of gigs and several thousands of pounds later I don't regret any of it, well maybe apart from those 2 or 3 nights sleeping rough and a couple of the more dodgy gigs at dodgy enues! |

Sunday update
no snow ...booooo ... had hoped for some for a bit of photography but hey ho .. Did head out for a bit to make the most of that sharp winter sunlight .... I suffer a little from S.A.D so make the most of proper strong sunlight in winter if I can as it does seem to perk me up a bit ... just a pity the wind chill factor was so biting cold so didn't really wander as much as I could have before ending up for a pub lunch ... Is there a Sunday Sheffeld Goth social meet up in the afternoon these days .. I seem to recall these things used to happen in the past a drink or two some food and silly chat ... okay the times I did it tended to be post Batfink when I was up for the weekend .. but since I've lived up here it's been a very occasional arrnged meet up at the Dev Cat or somewhere ...... saturday ....
Just about to head out and make most of daylight tho no idea where I'll end up! This morning I appear to get the tidy bug and half the bedroom is sorted out ..... found a several books and cd's I'd forgot that had migrated to under the bed or in the pile of "stuff" I always seem to accumulate! Anyway the world awaits me ... bet it doesn't really! Might just be out local somewhere as only about 4 hours of daylight to play with ..... Current Mood: relaxed |

The website
I have been busy and will be for a few months still updating the website UK Goth ListFor anyone that went to Whitby in October there is now a list with contact details for about 95% of the traders from the various venues, the ones that are missing are those that only trade at events have no shop or website etc ... Also posted up are details known for Whitby 2009 including links to announced bands websites or myspaces etc so if there is an act you don't know at least you can get an idea on what they are about. A new club listing is being built and am missing lots of details which I am slowly working through double checking etc it takes time to verify some aspects. So club promoters take a look at the details so far posted on revised club listing section. If you want to send me details in a similar format with your full website / myspace details and also all known dates for this year and next it will help speed your entry on, either comment here or email me at ukgothlist (at) googlemail (dot) com Also a new festival list is being built to replace the last one so watch that space too .... It's slow going but it will get there ... |

Meep!
Friiiiiiiidaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyyy .... Almost the weekend ...... I may go up to York depending on weather tomorrow, a couple of shops I want to hunt down there for xmas prezzie ideas ..... I so far have purchased 1 prezzie for Jean at Whitby .... so a bit of stuff to do ... tho with rest of family after last year we've all kind of said not to bother too much and just get a token type of gift ie a box of chocs etc .... thos exception for that is the nephew who see's his 2nd xmas this year .... not that I've seen him since born! Does that make me a bad Uncle (or just a busy one! - Brother moved to Pontefract in the summer and even tho he is now closhish still not seen him) Depends a bit if it snows as threatened .. if it does then a bit of railway photography may be in order and frozen feet. Sunday may see me at Meadowhall (shudder) but right as it opens to spend the £50 of vouchers I won at work about 3 months ago and got given to me a month ago ... sadly it's shirts or trousers for work I need to buy sigh .... |

Beep!
lete see what since last post ... Work still busy yet again .... but at least looks like going to reach some targets so will get a little bit of bonus in Xmas wage ..... Whitby was interesting, musically a couple of highlights but was disappointed with Wayne Hussey. Was good to catch up with people though probably didn't see as many of you guys and spend as much time with you as I should. Some good networking for the website did take up a big chunk of time. Got back from Whitby to come down with the Whitby lurg which left me in bed for 2 days unable to move with aches and lose of energy. Recovered just in time to get back to work for one day before a trip up to Glasgow - the main reason was an Alarm gig at King Tuts was a good night good to see friends not seen since January and also not a bad gig from the band. Was good to see a few unusual songs played. Also spent a bit of time roaming around Strathclyde area pity was a bit too cold to roam and got to Balloch too late to go explore the Country Park at Loch Lomomd but a good meal and then a roaring wood fire at the balloch House Inn made up for that. So Thats a bit of an update. Not sure what this weekend involves yet as Jean is working, hadn't realised Darkend at mansfield had snuck up on me so will miss that one by looks of things. Might do a bit of xmas hunting but as don't get paid til Monday its more ideas than action I fear ... |

2 posts 1 week ...!
Two posts in one week shock horror and |I've even had a chance to read some back posts but not many, looks like I'm out of the loop a bit with friends as seems a lot being going on - relationships ending, new ones starting, babies being born, people starting new jobs, moving and gawd knows what else! Me I've for the last 3 months just been plodding along - work I suppose has taken over a bit of late - since my holiday that didn't happen in June, the office has been a bit short staffed which has meant I've been down 2, 3, 4 or even 5 peoples work at time! We've had one person literally walk out and not come back, 2 leave, 1 off for 10 weeks with depression, another carted off in an ambulance with heart spasms and signed off for 3 weeks with high blood pressure. Me I've just trundled along and done what I can, The boss who is my temp boss as proper boss moved teams 6 weeks ago seems to appreciate the flexibility and work ethic of just get on with it tho .... Other than that I've just plodded on with the UK Goth list project ..... its time consuming but enlightening - there is a lot going out there just sadly no real nights in Sheffield other than Corp at the mo - I have heard rumours of 2 or 3 people/venues looking at starting things up - so maybe soon there will be a night everyone can join in with and just go out for and have a fun evening out ........ Not much else to report really only real trip out of late was a railway thing in carnforth, here the station waiting room has been converted into a museum to the brief Encounter film as all that was where most of it was filmed. And to this weekend ... well Jean and I are off to London this weekend - not sure what plans are as we are meeting up with her friend Richard who is over from Thailand - a few things have been muttered as to may be done including a trip to Vagabonds club night, maybe the Diary of Dreams/Swarf gig in Camden, A trip to Hamleys, a bit of a Camden roam, drinking in Soho .... guess we'll just go with the flow with what he and we wants to do. So you never know may see some of you down there. Other plans coming up may be a few local gigs - possibly Aiden, Stiff Little Fingers (almost certainly), Amanda Palmer, Lahannya/Dionysis, Damned, Rotersand. Also need to sort out which of the Alarm dates to do in November as would like to do one of the Glasgow and one of the Manchester ones, just about have enough holidays available to get 2 days off for Glasgow! Oh and something called Whitby ...... |

Picnic contingency ....
as weather predicidtions are looking a bit dogy ... when came earlier it had got decidely colder and was trying to start the predicted downpour ..... If the heavans do open ... shall we plot an alternative picnic in a pub option ... We did a bit of a meet up in the Dev Cat a month or so ago so maybe that can be a back up plan god ale, reasonable atmosphere to chat in and foot if required |
