This website is written solely by me, Tracy Durnell. The best way to reach me is by email, at [email protected].
My intent is to collect as little data as needed for this website to operate usefully. I respect and value your privacy.
Let’s be real, this is a personal website; corporate sites and social media are collecting a ton of your data, and using it to sell targeted ads to you 👎 To protect your information, I highly encourage you to use a browser that respects your privacy, install ad blockers and privacy protection, and log out of Facebook and Twitter and Google when you’re not using them. Need help or advice? I’m not an expert but happy to share what I know. Ping me 😊
Tracking
I do not have corporate analytics installed on this site; my webhost HostGator has limited analytics via AWStats, which uses IP addresses, not cookies. My webhost also logs visitation statistics for debugging purposes. (I asked, but there is no way to disable it.)
Basically, I have no idea you specifically are here unless you tell me — leave a comment or email me to say hi or let me know if you like something 😉
Embedded content from other sites like Instagram, Twitter, Spotify, TikTok, Bandcamp and YouTube might (read: definitely will) track your interactions with their content if you’re logged in. (I redirect YouTube embeds to a version without cookies so it only tracks you if you play the embed or click through to YouTube.)
If you go to my login page (why would you do that, that’s weird), my site will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
Comments
If you leave a comment, I keep it indefinitely for the purpose of displaying it at the bottom of the post or page you commented on. I will happily delete it upon request — just email [email protected].
In order for future comments to be automatically approved, the site stores metadata about who posted the comment. If you leave a comment and opt to save your information, the site will use a cookie to save your name, email, and website for one year.
I use Akismet to block spam. If you leave a comment, they’ll cross-check your info for spam. That information includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with information you provide directly like your name, username, email address, and comment text).
I use Gravatar for comment user images. If you leave a comment, an anonymized string of your email address will be checked against Gravatar. If your email address is connected to a profile there, my site will display that next to your comment (as the service is designed).
If you send my site a webmention, trackback or pingback, a stub of content will be pulled from your site and posted here. The Webmention plugin processes the following data (if available):
- Your name
- The profile picture from your website
- The URL of your website
- Text from your post
If you ever want anything your site sent mine removed or updated, just email me at [email protected]. You can also delete the link to my website from your post, then enter the URL of your post into the webmention form at the bottom of the post / page on my website to reprocess (and remove) the webmention manually.
