Hotspot Circulation Policy
What is a Hotspot? A hotspot is a portable Wi-Fi device that allows users to connect mobile devices (laptops, smartphones, tablets) to the internet. Service relies on cellular network coverage, and use outside the continental United States is prohibited.
Checking out a Hotspot
- Ask a staff member to check out a hotspot at the circulation desk.
- Present your valid photo ID and Library card.
- Sign the Hotspot Agreement Form.
Reservations may be placed on hotspots and will be held for 3 days from the time of the reservation. Households are limited to 1 hotspot or reserve per household.
Borrower Eligibility and Guidelines
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a valid Tye Preston Memorial Library (hereafter known as “the Library”) card in good standing.
- Library membership is required for a minimum of 3 months.
- Valid photo identification must be presented at checkout.
- Hotspot Agreement must be signed before checkout.
- Only one hotspot per household.
- Loan period is 21 days, non-renewable.
- Late returns will result in a 1 month ban on hotspot check-outs for the household, or at the discretion of the Library Director.
- There is a 24 hour “cool down” period between hotspot checkouts for the household.
- Hotspots can only be checked out and returned to the Library’s circulation desk, do not return to book drops.
- Reservations may be placed on hotspots and will be held for 3 days until the reserve is removed.
- Staff will verify that all components are present at the time of checkout and check-in. All components must be turned in before the hotspot will be removed from the user’s account.
Fees and Liability
Hotspots will be deactivated one day after the due date, rendering the device inoperable. The borrower is liable for all costs associated with damage, loss, or misuse of the hotspot and its accessories.
- A fee of $75 will be charged for loss or damage to the hotspot and all accessories.
- Individual component replacement fees apply:
- Hotspot: $60
- Charging cable: $10
- Box: $5
- Fees will be applied according to Library policy.
