Spacing Photo Interns

Spacingtoronto.ca is looking for photo interns for the summer:

Spacing has a variety of projects under way this summer that need photographic support. If you're a student or emerging photographer that needs some real-world experience in the publishing industry — and would like to put Spacing on your resumé! — please contact us by email [ [email protected] ].

WHAT WE BOTH NEED: In your email to Spacing send along a link to your portfolio, web site, or photoblog. Also let us know why you'd be a good fit for going out into the streets of the city to take photos. The projects will take place in June and July (and maybe into August). We're flexible with work schedules and will accommodate your time commitment needs/challenges.

(no subject)

City Council has rejected Mayor Ford's transit plan for Sheppard, and has instead recommended (in keeping with the recent blue-ribbon report) that the Sheppard subway line be extended with LRT, rather than subway, construction.

John Loric at Spacing has a full takedown, and also gets into the political implications. Two highlights:
- Ford appears to be gearing up for his next campaign, which he plans to fight on subways-vs-streetcars, with Karen Stintz as a proxy opponent until someone actually steps up to the plate.
- In addition to alienating most of council's moderates, Ford has begun to lose support even from right-wingers. (Councillors Holyday, Minnan-Wong, Robinson and Milczyn, all of whom sit on his Executive Committee, have all recently spoken against his leadership style and urged him to take a more conciliatory tone. He appears to have, instead, chosen to ramp up his rhetoric.)
