Life Drawing Courses in Toronto?

Years ago I used to attend walk-in live drawing sessions at TSA. I recently noticed that the school is back so I'm considering to sign up for a course in the summer. The problem is that the course that I'm interested in taking won't be available until the end of the summer.

I was wondering if anyone here would know of a good alternative to TSA that's located in the GTA? I'm interested in taking an instructor-lead course in anatomy and perspective drawing. I know OCAD offers courses in the summertime but they haven't released the dates for the classes that I'm interested in so I'm beginning to assume they won't be available until the end of the summer.

WTF: urdu classes in the GTA!?

hello all,

so i'm a native urdu speaker but my reading/writings skills are balls and i want to change this. i've scoured google ane the website of every university and college in toronto i can think of and no one has any urdu classes at all. all i can find are quasi-sketchy independent tutors and i don't feel comfortable paying $30/hour from someone whose only qualification is that they're a native speaker (speaking and teacher are two very different things, imo.)

anyway, i was wodnering if anyone here knew of or WAS an urdu tutor? or knew of urdu classes in the city which are reasonably priced. i'm in north york but willing to travel pretty much anwhere in toronto, scarborough or mississauga if necessary. i really only need a beginner course so i'm not looking for anything really long term.

any help/advice is always appreciated! thanks!

(no subject)

so I may have dreamed this but I remember a few years ago hearing about a Toronto University where the goal wasn't so much to get a diploma or anything but simply to learn stuff. Tuition was cheap if existed at all and all courses were purely optional and such. Does anyone know what I'm talking about/does it still exist? I wanna learn to code ;\

Toronto basic computer classes

My mother is looking to learn some basic Windows stuff - how to copy files, make CDs, etc. She already knows how to use a mouse and web surf, so I guess this would be one step up from that. Does anyone know of a good computer course in Toronto?

Kids' cartooning classes at College and Clinton

Hey!  Just wanted to let people know, if you or anyone you know is looking for some winter art classes for kids ages 8-12, there are some starting up next week.

Toronto Cartoonists Workshop, at 587A College St., has some cartooning courses, taught by published artist and author Dave Lapp, that are starting after school this coming Monday.  I sat in on a course he taught, myself, to get in some class room hours with kids to build my own teaching experience.  He is a great instructor --- really relates well with the kids, and a lot of fun.  I really strongly recommend these classes.

Any recommendations for private driving lessons from a school in the East York/Beaches area? I'm looking into buying a package deal for several lessons. Thanks.

fiddle lessons

Hello!

I'd like to take fiddle lessons.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  A few teachers are coming up when I do a google search, but there's gotta be more of them in this city!

I was paying 25$ for half an hour before so I'd prefer not to go too much higher than that.  (Also, I'm only here for a few months, so I can't take any lessons that require you pay up front for 10 lessons at a time or whatever.)

Thanks so much!

Looking for info on schools

I have to register my son for kindergarten in the new year and I would like some info on the 2 schools available to me. I have both John English and George R Gauld in my area. Has anyone gone to either of these schools, have kids that go to these schools or know thing about them?
I have checked the Toronto District School Bored site, so I have a little bit of info from there; but getting direct information for people who have experience with the schools is always best.

Photography classes

Have any of you taken photography classes in Toronto? Which would you recommend? I'm looking for a one-day workshop, and something that's at a beginner/intermediate level (I know how to operate a point and shoot camera no problem, but I'm new to using manual mode and to the technical elements of photography). Henry's is near where I work, but there's also a FabFind coupon today for the Academy of Photo Arts (which is a bit of a trek from where I live but still a possibility). I'm sure there are other ones in Toronto that I just don't know about.

Thanks!

Fun corporate business training?

I'm looking for companies who provide corporate business training, but I'm looking for companies from an artistic background. So far, I am contacting Impatient Theatre and Zero Gravity CIrcus (but I don't know if they do such things).

Who else should I be contacting?
Obviously, this is for my company.

Negotiations Course

Hello All,

I'm looking for a good negotiations course.  I was looking at the one at UofT continuing education but they don't have the prof. (geoffrey leonardelli) I was looking for.  I'm still curious how the course is though.  I was also looking at some other colleges such as george brown or seneca or York U.

If you guys have any experience, give me your wisdom!

TIA

Driving classes for adults

When I was 16, my parents made me get my driver's license, but for various reasons I did not enjoy driving and did not drive again. I am now a proper adult and would like to start driving again, however my license has been expired for too many years and I need to start from scratch. I have someone who is going to help me with the driving practice, but he wants me to take some lessons first. I don't want to do this with some place like Young Drivers where I would be the only adult in a class full of teenagers, and for the actual on the road part, I would prefer someone who has experience working with non-driving adults. Can anyone recommend a place?

TAGteach certification seminar

Hi folks,

I'm not sure how many of you are in the know about TAGteaching, but it's Teaching with Acoustical Guidance (usually a clicker).

We use TAGteaching for children with autism, coaching athletes, managing staff, reducing fears & phobias, and many other instances. It's absolutely incredible. I've attached a few videos below so that you know what I'm talking about if you're new to this.

In November, I'll be hosting TAGteach International's Primary Certification Seminar and wanted to invite you to join us here in Toronto. It's an amazing opportunity to learn how to be a better people-trainer, which is technically what we end up being, most of the time!

If you have colleagues, friends, family who are teachers, parents, mentors, coaches, athletes, managers, animal trainers, etc..., please pass along this poster so that they are welcome to join us.

I've attached a link to a poster in case you can circulate this to your contacts... http://www.whattapup.ca/posters/TAGteachPoster.pdf

Please let me know if you have any questions at all – I'm happy to help!

Hope you're all keeping cool in this crazy heat!

Thanks!

EDIT: While I appreciate everyone's opinion, this wasn't posted to start a debate or encourage snarky comments. If you're not interested, please pass on by. If you're interested in joining us or passing the info along to someone you know, please let me know. Much appreciated!

This program is not disrespectful of humans but if you feel that it *must* be, please research Operant Conditioning / Learning Theory and then direct your questions to the staff at TAGteach.com; I'm simply hosting the event because I support the program.
Thanks for your time!

HIV/Sexual Health Workshop Opportunities?

Hey Toronto LJ,

I work at a health centre, and am involved in a program there that consists of peer-to-peer education on sexual health & HIV. I'm helping two participants of the program find places where they can facilitate a 2 hour arts-based workshop on HIV & Sexual Health. They are youth focused, specifically around ages 14-19.

We are in the process of triyng to find places to do the workshops. The two participants that I'm helping out wanted to work within black and east-asian communities, but this is not a deciding factor. We would like to get two down by the end of the month.

We are in the process of securing one, but are still looking for other places that might be open. I'm connected with several youth agencies, but I wanted to open it up and ask the boards if they knew of any communities, youth groups, friends that may be interested in having this workshop done at their place

It doesn't even need to be formal - the participants may even have an informal one with their friends/community partners. If you have any ideas, please let me know!

To find out more about the project, please see www.empoweryouth.info

Feel free to PM me for my e-mail if you'd like to talk further

Thanks!

Infant First Aid & CPR Courses

Anyone have any recommendations on a class in infant first aid and CPR? St. John Ambulance doesn't seem to have anything targeted toward young children, except their babysitter's course which isn't really geared toward parents.

Bonus points if they offer classes on the weekend.

Thanks!

Cheap driving schools

I did a quick search and got a hit but it was from 4 years ago, so I'd like to hear some fresh opinions.

I'm looking for a cheap driving school to provide a refresher course on all the basics including driving on the highway, parallel parking, and all the rest.

I haven't driven in 2 years, although I do have a full license from my original province and I hold a G2. I'm just a little nervous

I will be moving soon too so I want to pack all my things into a rental car and drive it across the province. Is this the best solution or should I hire a moving company to do this for me?

Thank you!

Open life drawing in Little Italy

Hi folks,

Just writing to let people know that there's a new open life drawing drop-in program starting up, tonight, near College and Clinton, if anyone is interested.

It's in the new studio space for Toronto Cartoonists Workshop, at 587 College, upstairs.  (Right across from Utopia, in the former Whippersnapper space.)

It's geared especially towards artists and illustrators interested in learning anatomy as well as clothing folds and drapery, as the model will be nude for the first two hours of the session, and clothed for the last hour of poses.  This is the only life drawing program of this type that's being publicly offered in the city.

7pm to 10pm, $12 at the door (cash only).  If you're interested in checking it out, tonight's the first night!  (It will run every Wednesday for the summer.)  And the studio is HUGE and gorgeous -- and the new location just opened last night.

(If you have any questions, post here and I'll answer 'em!)

WTF: Exchange company

I'm looking for an exchange company that brings students to Toronto - specifically, from Japan.

My family and I have an interest in hosting. Sadly, the only company I know of (and the one I traveled with myself) sends students from any country to toronto EXCEPT for students from japan.

I'm looking for a company that sends highschool or uni level students, either for a semester or a whole year.

anyone know of any such companies? thanks!

edit: ok so since apparently this has to be said, i am not a 30 year old neckbeard.

Public Relations Programs

Hi all,

I was wondering if any members might have any experiences with Humber's Public Relations certification program or Ryerson's Public Relations certification program, or at least heard any feedback?

I'm trying to decide between the two! They both seem to have decent reputations, although I've heard much more about the Humber one (I guess because it is the oldest program).

Any feedback at all would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

recommendations on a creative writing course

Good evening, Toronto!

I am looking for two things:

1. An interesting creative writing course/workshop, which would meet on the week-ends. I am specifically looking for peer-reviewing, mentoring, and discussions. I found that UofT, School of Chang, and the Humber school offer creative writing classes. Did anybody take one at any of these places? Know people who did? Any recommendations? Humber school is a little too far for me (isn't it near Kipling?) I am on Yonge and Davisville and can travel downtown.

2. A good writing group that would be meeting on week-ends.

Thanks!
