Good in the last week

  • Fresh-ground cinammon. Finally nailed my colors to the mast on this and threw out the ancient McCormick-or-whomever spice container we have had for years. Made sure to sniff the contents first to give myself a fuller sense of superiority. Cinammon becomes my third spice/ seasoning to join this prestiguous group, founded by fennel (a bit in a mortar and pestle added to any Italian red-sauce dish is great IMO) and nutmeg. I use nutmeg like 6 or 7 times a year, so it was no great sacrifice to microplane it as needed. If I really wanted to role hispter-hard, I suppose I’d get the unhusked berries and then I could do mace by hand too, but who the hell uses mace more than once a decade? OTHER THAN COPS AMIRITE?
  • Using AI for the purposes God intended. Mainly as a hype man/ father confessor for tasks I can probably do but am not confident in. Changed out a 30/ 50 well pump pressure switch last weekend which is a lovely combo of both electric and plumbing work and a bit high stakes (given the house would be without water if it didn’t get finished). Went swimmingly, in the metaphoric sense only, and hopefully has resolved the wild electric bills we have been seeing.
  • The wild passion of Tyler Childers’ Way of the Triune God. Fantastic wake up song, especially on a Sunday where it could bridge the eternal question “Hymns or Hangovers?”
