Distinguishing from the postmodern tradition of ‘naming the difference’, Rege has not only articulated the ‘difference’ of Dalit feminists but also has urged for a politics emerging out of social relations. This standpoint also comes out of its absence from the women’s movement and the Dalit movement. She believes that Dalit feminist standpoint is more emancipatory than most feminist frameworks and urges the feminists to transform themselves into Dalit feminists. This raises several questions regarding unintentional appropriation, the capability for a true transformation, and its implications of the Dalit and Women’s movement. The following paper explores the basic tenets of Dalit Feminist Standpoint theory as articulated by Sharmila Rege through her work and critiques it.
