We had some wonderful news this week, our fifth grandchild has arrived so I’ve been busy creating to celebrate. Ive used https://artinspirations.co.uk/products/art-inspirations-with-mr-barghest-a7-stamp-set-new-little-monster

I started off stamping the image where I wanted it on my card and also on a second piece of card to cut out. I stamp my image on the card now to help me with the placement of the other elements.

I then die cut the elements I’m going to use, my selection is from Anna-Marie craft dies.

I then used a combination of distress sprays, a shimmer spray and some bleed-proof white splatters to create my background.

I then added some chiffon and lace along with the other die cut elements.

I then added my fussy cut images and added colour to them.

I then used a water soluble pencil to add a little shadow, I stamped and embossed my sentiment added that then added some mats and layers to the card.

And there we go 🩷

I’ve done many posts for other blogs so I thought it was probably about time I started doing a few of my own.
In this step by step I’ll go through the process of creating this card. I know that there is some controversy about fitting people in boxes and that some people feel they can’t make cards, while others scrapbook and the list goes on. Im afraid I’m a bit maverick in that respect, I use card bases frequently as they are a great way to display your artwork. I really believe all creative skills translate across all genres, it doesn’t have to be a specific discipline. In my humble opinion all creativity is art and I don’t subscribe to any hierarchy, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
So let’s get stuck in, everything I’ve done here will work across a broad range of sizes and substrates, I love to use lots of layers, you may wonder what the point is as you don’t see every layer and it’s an odd thing but without them, you notice they are not there. The layers create dimension and depth.
To start off I’m using a piece of light scrap card stock 3x6inches in a light grey colour but honestly you could go with plain white card stock and get a similar effect. I then took some scrap pieces of the absolutely beautiful AS Boiler Room rice paper.

Once I adhered my scraps I used a score board and scored across vertically at half inch intervals.

I then took grunge Wallpaper Stamp along with Unchartered mariner ink

I then used AS Old Seals stamp around the edges

I then took an old AS stencil that I’m sad to say I’m having trouble sourcing to give you the link but I’ve found one that’s very similar AS Kaleidoscope which I put to one side of the cardstock and used an embossing pad through it then adding Funky Cold Patina and then used a heat gun to activate the embossing powder.

I then took a combination of, Cobalt Teal, Quinacridone Gold, Raw Umber and White paint with a very dry brush, the high pigment paints are exactly what they say on the tin and you truly need very little.

I then used a Grey Stabilo pen to follow the scored lines this could easily be any other type of grey water based pen or watercolour pencil. I do use grey stabilo pens frequently and definitely recommend them.

I then took an AS stencil that I’m having trouble finding at the moment but I will add it as soon as I track it down and some Red Paint stippling through the stencil with a stencil brush.

I then took the Gypsie Queen stamp I stamped it in the position I wanted to be on the main cardstock and also on a piece of scrap card. I like to stamp the image on the background to give me the fine detail that would be almost impossible to cut out , so when I cut out the image I’m going to stick on the card I don’t need to worry about the antennae or the legs and numbers as they are on the base already.

I splattered a little white paint on the background beforeI used a mixture of the previously used paints to colour the moth and then some Pinflair gel to adhere the moth in place.

I cut some black card to create a mat for my card I use around a half inch border, I then took my card base and did some partial stamping using the shabby wallpaper stamp and unchartered mariner ink just to tie everything together and ground the central design.

I added a little washi just because it seemed right. I hope this has been useful and I’m looking forward to sharing lots more

Here’s the project I’ll be making on my next Stamperia live at the beginning of July it’s inspired by my love of the “Fabelhaven” books by Brandon Mull, where there are beautiful and dangerous magical nature reserves. This started life as a piece of grey board so there will be lots of painting techniques and of course cast painting too.
I’ve used;
