  If you never used an advertisement blocker or do not even know that such
  things exists, this article is for you. A normal users who buys a smartphone
  for just clicking pictures and browsing social media never pays much attention
  to the ads which is being shown to him/her. These kinds of people are mostly
  OKAY with them and can wait 10 to 15 seconds to watch an advertisement in a
  Android app.

<p>
  Android apps servers advertisements in different forms, such as text, banners
  and videos. People download random apps and games from Play Store and served
  with advertisements within 5 minutes or even less. Some apps do it very
  aggressively and bombard users with ads after tapping something in the
  app. 
</p>
<p>
  You can block all these kinds of advertisements easily on any android phone
  and save some time as well as you can take advantages of your full phone
  screen. When these advertisement are blocked, the banner ads which you see in
  bottom of app or at other parts of app, they all disappear. <br />
</p>
<p>
  There are three easy ways you can blocks ads on your Android phone. One of
  these methods require you to have a rooted phone and the other two methods
  works without root for almost everyone. I am going to discuss about the
  non-root methods first because an average Android does not understand what
  Root is.

<h2 style="text-align: left;"><span>Non-Root Method</span></h2>
<br />There are two methods for blocking ads on non-rooted Android.

  <h4 style="text-align: left;"><br />1. Private DNS (Android 9+).</h4>
  <div style="text-align: left;">
    Android 9 introduced the private DNS feature. It is available in most
    android phones running Android 9 and above. Some phone manufacturers hides
    this options in their software so the user can not access it. As far as I
    know it is hidden somewhere deep in MIUI android pie and you have to find it
    using Activity Launcher app. If you are not sure if its available in your
    Settings of your phone (usually its under Network/Internet settings) , you
    can search on Google about it. Once you find it, you can follow below steps,
    otherwise you can use the second method.

    We gonna use adguard DNS to block ads. Adguard provides DNS service which
    also blocks ads requests from your network.

        Find the Private DNS settings first. For me, its in
        <b>Settings > Network & Internet</b> 
      </li>
      <li>
        Tap on <b>Private DNS</b> and then check on
        <b>"Private DNS provider hostname".</b>
      </li>
      <li>
        Now enter <b><i>dns.adguard.com </i></b>in the text field and tap on
        Save.
      </li>
      <li>Thats it. You enabled it successfully.</li>

  There are other DNS address which you can use for blocking ads. If you have
    trust issues with these DNS providers, please search on Google about them
    before trying. Also remember that if your internet gives any kind of issue
    when Private DNS is turned on, it means that the DNS provider is working
    slow. You can try turning it off and see if everything goes back to
    normal.<br />

    Its clear from the name, this method utilize the VPN connection feature of
    Android to block ads. This is by far gives the best results in blocking
    advertisements. Well, you don't have to setup VPNs manually. We are going to
    use some trusted third party apps which can turn on/off advertisement
    blocking with just one tap.

    For this article, I am going to use DNS66 app, which is an open source app.
    It is hosted on Fdroid and is completely safe to use.

        Download DNS66 from

      <li>Install the apk and launch DNS66.</li>
      <li>Tap on the refresh icon shown in top right.</li>
      <li>
        Tap on the big <b>START</b> button and allow the app to make VPN
        connection.

        It everything goes fine, it will be enabled and you can have adfree
        experience now (mostly).
      </li>

    Qaud66 allows you to add custom hosts file by adding a direct URL to it. If
    you are new and do not want to bother search for Hosts files, the default
    option is fine. You can find more hosts file at

    In DNS66, you can even select apps in which you want to apply ad blocking.
    Blockada, Adguard and AdClear are some other apps which works on the same
    principle of VPN based blocking.<br />

    <h2 style="text-align: left;"><span>Root based Ad blocker</span></h2>

      Root based ad blockers were used to be a thing years ago when root was
      popular. The availability of VPN based root blockers reduced the usage of
      root based ad blockers. Adaway is one such app which is still being
      updated by developers. Since we are talking about root based ad blockers,
      Energized Protection should be mentioned here also. Its not an app
      actually, its a magisk module. People who are familiar with root/Magisk
      modules would find it easy to install it. The same goes for AdAway app as
      well. Energized protection is more powerful as compared to AdAway, but
      personally for me, its a hassle to whitelist and blacklist links in it.
      AdAway is easy in case of white/blacklisting URLs.

          using pie or above, first go to Magisk Manager settings and enable
          Systemless hosts option. Reboot after enabling that option and follow
          the next steps as usual.

          Tap on the big red "Enable Ad-Blocking" button which you see in the
          main page.

          Thats it, you are done. In some cases, it requires a reboot for
          changes to take effect. I have personally tested it on Android Pie and
          ten, and it works fine without reboot.

      also allows blacklisting and whitelisting of URLs, making it easier to add

  Google finally decided to roll out automatic dark/light theming to all beta
  users. It was only available earlier only to some users, just Google's server
  side things. You need Gboard's beta version 9.7 for enjoying this new feature.

  Gboard will follow the system-wide theme and you need to be on a device
  running Android 10. There is no idea if it will make its way to Android 9 or
  older Android versions because they don't have automatic system-wide
  light/dark theme support.</p><p> </p>

  Another thing is worth mentioning that on Android 10, if you change your theme
  to "System Auto", the gboard will only use default light and dark theme. You
  can not set which theme to use when system switches to dark mode or light
  mode, which is an awkward thing. Google still have chance to improve it and
  let users decide which theme user want in dark and light mode but I doubt
  Google will be listening to users this time. 
</p>

All of these apps are open source and thats one more reason people like most of these apps. </p><p>As far as I can remember, when Simple Mobile Tools first appeared on Play Store, they offered all apps for free, there were no premium version of these apps that time. As the time passed and the apps started getting popular after getting attention from some big Android blogs, they stopped updating those free versions and started proving Premium versions which are updated on regular intervals. The free versions of these apps now just act like some kind of trial version. I have no intention to go after developer and accuse him for being greedy or whatever people like to think when some developer do thinks like this. Its understandable because the developer is putting his effort in making the apps and updating them with new features as well as fixing bugs. </p><p>When the developer introduced the premium versions of these apps, he gave people a chance to get them for free and put all those apps on sale for free. I personally got all apps for free and I paid for the <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.thankyou&hl=en_IN" target="_blank">"Simple Thank You"</a> app which is kind of a donation apps to Simple Mobile Apps and it also enables the feature of having same theming across all those apps.</p><p>The developer of Simple Mobile Tools is kind enough to release all the premium versions of apps on Github. <h2><span>Installation Procedure</span></h2>

    Open Magisk Manager and install the Viper4Android magisk module. This will
    install the Viper4Android app.

    Now you have to open the Viper4Android app. It will ask you to install the
    drivers. Tap on install drivers.<br />

      reboot your phone into TWRP. If you clicked on install drivers your device
      will bootloop. To solve this you have to enter into the TWRP recovery and
      follow the next step, next step is useless for you if you did not install
      drivers because drivers are necessary for Viper4Android to work .**</b><br />

    If you installed drivers then this step is for you. When your device is in
    bootloop just force boot into TWRP. Tap on Advanced > File Manager , copy
    the post-fs-data.sh file which we downloaded and paste it into the
    /data/adb/modules/Viper4AndroidFX folder.

  <li>Now you can reboot and Viper4Android will work.</li>

On my device i.e Moto G5 Plus, I can force reboot into bootloader by pressing
power off and volume down button together for 10+ seconds, from bootloader I can
jump to TWRP with "Reboot to recovery" option. Your device might have different
method of forcing boot into bootloader or maybe directly into TWRP recovery ,

Before you jump to reading instructions, the most important thing I want to tell you is that you need ROOTED device in order to use substratum on Android Q Beta. With Android Pie google has blocked all ways of installing overlays saying that - The Overlay Manager Service (OMS) is intended for device manufacturer's use. OMS, in its current form, is not designed to be a generic theming feature. <br />
<br />
With Android Q, google has changed many things most of them are regarding the internals such as dynamic system partitions. Magisk dev TopJohnWu has already succeeded in rooting Android Q and most of the device running Q beta can be rooted easily with magisk. Google already have implemented a system-wide dark theme and most of the apps are adopting the dark themes now. One might feel that this dark mode in Android Q has eliminated the need of substratum themes, this might be true to some extent but the variety of customization is more bigger with substratum themes.<br />
<br />
I was using the Android Q beta GSI by erfan and found that due to some issues substratum and substratum lite were not able to install overlays. At this moment substratum app does not work properly with Q which may be rectified in future but for now I found a workaround to install susbstratum themes.There are not many Android Q compatible themes as of now. The only theme that I used on Q is <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schnettler.ethereal">ethereal</a>. Join the beta of this themes to use the Android Q version.<br />

Before you proceed to use this method I suggest you to use<a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=projekt.substratum.lite&hl=en"> Substratum Lite</a> app to install substratum themes. Try it once because it may work for you , if it does not work properly or the overlays not getting installed after building and reboot, then you can use this workaround to apply substratum themes. <br />

Since it was an open source project ,so a new dev SunilPaulMathew picked this up and has been improving it since then. This is not available to download from play store , you need to download this from the app release page on github. Interface of the app is pretty simple and settings are divided in section using a sidebar. The best feature of this app is - Custom Controls. With custom controls you can even add support for the things which has been added in kernel but are not supported by kernel manager yet. You can read more about these controls in the app itself. It has its navigation bar at the bottom of the app and makes it easy to reach settings and other options. It also provides live CPU/GPU speed , input/output speed, info about wakelocks, RAM, Zram, thermal temperatures of different things and kernel logs too.<br />

It has per-app profiles support which is the best things. You can make and profile with different setting and save it. These settings will get applied automatically when you launch that app for which you made that profile. It has a script manager which allows you to write a shell script and it will get automatically executed every time your phone boots. You can import and export these scripts easily from/to storage.<br />

It has a nice dark mode by default but you can that to light from settings. If you enable the battery monitor , it will start showing you the battery stats in notification bar which details of idle battery drain and on screen usage drain percentages. Its a very useful feature for me. <br />

There are two thing you should take care of : First - If you already using pixel launcher then you have to uninstall it .Second is that, most of the times, the first time you try to open the app it needs to generate a file called reflection.engine, which is required by Pixel Launcher. Since it doesn't exist, the app forcefully exits. Give it one minute and try to open it again, then it should be working.<br />

<b>3.</b> Turn on USB debugging .<br />

<li>Tap <b><i>Build Number </i></b> 7 times until it says "You are now a developer"</li>
<li>Under <b><i>Settings >> Developer Options</i></b> , Turn on USB debugging.</li>

<b>4.</b> Reboot to recovery and connect your phone to PC via USB cable.<br />

<b>5.</b> On your PC, create a new folder where you want to save the TWRP backup files. Then do Shift + Right click on any empty white space inside the folder, and select <b>Open command window here </b>from the context menu.<br />

<b>6.</b> Once command window is open, type in the following command to initiate TWRP backup:<br />

Magisk Root is much better than SuperSu in various aspects . Various ROM developers are now including magisk in official Roms .You can hide root from apps which usually do not run on a rooted phone. There are two things we need to make Magisk Work .One is a flashable magisk installer zip and other is Magisk App. First of all we need to flash Magisk Installer Zip through TWRP which modifies boot image of device and create a new magisk.img partion in your smartphones root directory. It also places necessary files in /cache and /data partion. As i said its a systemless root , so nothing is happened in system partion. but there is another to know here is that If you already rooted with SuperSu by Chainfire then magisk installer will try to delete all files related to SuperSu from system partion .Magisk will delete Su binary and 2-3 other things from System partition. <br />

<h2><span>How to Install magisk ?</span></h2><br />
<b color="red">Update : </b> There are two methods for Installing Magisk - <br />
1. Use TWRP to flash and install Magisk .<br />
2. Download Magisk Manager from Google Play . Rest of the process is easy but you still need TWRP because magisk app itself install zips without booting into recovery . <br />

Its vert simple if you are know a little bit about TWRP and Flashing Roms.  Download Links are given below for magisk installer and magisk app.I strongly suggest you to also download magisk-unistaller in case if something goes wrong .Uninstaller will revert all changes that are made by magisk installer. <br />

<h2><span>How to flash & Install Magisk </span></h2>• Boot into recovery mode (TWRP)<br />
• Locate the Magisk Installer Zip.<br />
• Tap on it and Swipe to flash it. <br />
• Wait .<br />
• Reboot.<br />

Now install the magisk app from Play Store and open it to see if it is rooted successfully. You will see green checkmark on first page of app if you are rooted successfully.<br />

<b color="red">Method 2: </b> <br />
• Download <a href="https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4031933&d=1486424592" target="_blank">Magisk Manager </a> from Google Play.<br />
• Open Magisk Manager and swipe from left to open navigation menu and click on "Install" . <br />
• Magisk app will automatically detect your device's boot image location , you have to just click on <b>"Download and Install" </b> .<br />
• A popup will appear then click on <b>"Install"</b> .  A zip file will be downloaded and then installed by app automatically .<br />
• If the install is successful then reboot to activate magisk root. <br />
• In case if your device stuck on boot screen because of magisk then boot into TWRP and flash <b>"Magisk-Unistaller"</b> located in <b>"MagiskManager"</b> folder in internal storage.<br />
• Done . <br />

<h2><span>How To Hide Root From Apps </span></h2>• Open Magisk App<br />
• Swipe From Left And Click On <b>Settings</b>.<br />
• Check Mark (Enable) <b>Magisk Hide </b><br />
• Press back button .<br />
• You will now see <b>Magisk Hide</b> option in side navigation bar.<br />
• Click on It.<br />
• Select app from list from which you want to hide root. <br />
• You are done . <br />
